FUNKe is one of the few youtubers of which I actually care about when they post. They introduce me to incredible games music and overall great content. The effort of the editing is insane. Thank you for the content!
i fully understand the obsession with TF2, a timeless masterpiece with soo much movement and fun ways fights its hard to stop comparing it to anything else even remotely close to its design.
I like this style of video format. The longer length and the “commercial cut” style screen in between segments makes it feel like a long running talk or documentary show that you wait all week for just to watch. The talking style is still there from previous uploads but the sporadic jumps to different topics with the “Funke board” between makes it feel like a fun variety show with an over arcing idea or theme. It’s pretty good.
People have complained about your video pacing and density but I honestly love it. It's great seeing content that's distinctly stylistic and non-conformative to conventional video structures. It's very FLCL and I appreciate it
I don't think you understand how cool your videos turn out with the amount of effort you put into it but your channel is the definition of cool THANK YOU
It's. Fucking odd. I know you're a musician, I know you love music. But something about that flow is genuinely. . .comforting in a wild way. Should consider just pursuing it on the side. Not for youtube, or anything, but for yourself. See what art you make. It sounds like you have something to say somewhere in the backdrop of it, and maybe you'd be surprised by what comes out.
I was looking for someone commenting on the musical bits in these videos. I genuinely like the self written music inserts as they are at least to me berry enjoyable and leaves me wanting to hear more. While I'm on it if you actually read this @funke I want to thank you for putting in so much effort.
Dude tbh Funke's music is awesome, like I just spent like 10 minutes trying to find him on spotify, closest I got was uncle dane. Seriously though, Funke's in the hood is full of hard ass bars.
I have to say your that seeing a new video by you pop up in my recommended has only ever gotten me excited, and I always watch them as soon as I see them. Your commentary is not only enjoyable and informative, but your bombie character and jagged animation wraps it in what feels like a silk ribbon. Lastly the latter half of this video in particular about the Shadow Warrior games has to be my favorite part, I enjoyed the longer format and I had 0 clue this franchise even existed before watching, and now I find myself looking at the 70% off steam sale for the trilogy. Thanks for the awesome vids FUNKe!
20:09 Words cannot describe how hilarious the implications that the musical/rap segments of some of these videos are made subconsciously and that you have no control over it. How Bombi goes from having such pure swag and dapperness to pure fear and anxiety is so damn funny. Best joke in any of your videos, hands down XD
Love your stuff like always! The raps are always my favorite, but I do wanna mention how I enjoyed the return to long-form with the Shadow Warrior series! Getting to see someone deep dive into material has always been my favorite type of entertainment on UA-cam.
I will saying having recently picked up Neon White it does expand on a lot of the anime stuff I see people cringe with but it does lean into the tropes pretty heavily on purpose. I don't know about anyone else but it really invokes those teenage Saturday nights of watching toonami and then playing a CS surf map while listening to your underground breakcore. The soundtrack is amazing hype mixed with zen and Steve Blum (Spike from Cowboy Bebop) voices the main character. Really that nostalgia stuff depends on your up bringing but it's nice to see these really great VAs do something so niche for a change since Neon White is a real cheek clenched. PS I know you know this but I just wanna sell people on the game because while I like a good boom shoot I want new stuff and I really just want a surf game minus all the public lobbies. oh and I saw it show up for a second but Postal Brain-Damaged is also quite good. Most functional Piss button in gaming very good.
Brain Damaged and Neon White are going back and forth for my GOTY right now, and I hope they’ll manage to stick around and not get tossed out or overshadowed when stuff like Ultrakill’s summer update comes.
personally, the soundtrack was the only reason I picked it up originally (cos Machine Girl in any context *rocks*) but the gameplay and aesthetic ended up being a really pleasant surprise. The people whining about anime need to grow up at some point.
Love the animations for bombie! Even with it being less animated it still feels great with the poses and voiceover. Really shows that sometimes limitations provide cool stuff!
13:05 Not true! The time slowdown actually increases your grapple range, so even the "best of the best" are forced to use it to make some grapples. The real test of skill is learning to briefly tap it to get that teensy bit of reach. I'm just amazed you mentioned Cyber Hook at all though, honestly. Super underrated, I'm glad more people are hearing about it!
With regards to Neon White, its honestly my GOTY. The characters do get better as you learn more about them and the story is subversive enough to not be entirely predictable. Emergent gameplay choices play a bigger role than FUNKe let on if you care about getting WR in any level, as shortcuts become increasingly necessary to shave off seconds
Will jump off this comment to also caveat I definitely had a skewed intent playing the game since I generally kick my leg during dialogue stuff, there's a lot more under the game's hood than what I scripted here (and if it weren't wedged between 10 other reviews i'd probably have given it more justice)
@@FUNKe I do appreciate that they have an incredibly fast fast forward button to skip all dialogue and such. But the gameplay gets so fuckin good from start to finish
@@FlozzSD Same, but there's a fast forward button and you can skip through all of that very, very quickly. Trust me the gameplay is worth it. It absolutely slapps
4:15 Actually, there IS a game where scale changes gameplay! It's called Atomega, an arena shooter game where as you fight you can collect cubes around the map that make you bigger and bigger the more of them you collect, eventually transforming you from a tiny cube, with not much offense but able to utilize small passageways in the map, into a hulking titan that can fire lasers, but is slow and can't fit within the structures scattered around the map.
kinda an interesting tonally changing video. starting with a quick review of more movement shooter indie games, then a discussion on hero shooter mapdesign, then a whole series review. Idk feels like this could be three separate videos instead of one. But I guess this works too. good stuff.
It definitely could've, and in the future i'll probably keep to individual releases. This just let me try a lot of styles in close proximity, so if one thing doesn't work there's still something else for people to latch onto. That and I didn't want to drop 4 movement shooter videos back to back, I like having some subject diversity across each video. But the next time I do one of these, it'll probably be a different format/more like the last one.
@@FUNKe Understandable. I was just thinking from a effort/reward perspective, might have been efficient to release 1 video, then have 2 in reserve to drip feed content as a safty net while you are working on other stuff (and to have distinct categories of content for cataloging purposes). Not complaining about a mass drop, but thought it might be easier from a content creators perspective and in relation to the amount of hours spent on it. But im no expert in this stuff. Hell, it got on trending. It does have an interesting experimental flow of consciousness feel though. chill mood. Also, thanks for the response guy!
@@FUNKe yeah dude but you probably missed out on shit tons of money. Probably. You could have definitely spaced it out, using each movement shooter as a spacer for other videos while you work on them or something. But glad to see this vid regardless :)
Can I just say, the produtction quality of these videos, for free (or even paid) entertainment is phenomenal, the jokes are crisp and well timed and dripping with character, the games in discussion are put under a fair light and your attitude towards them is commendable, and overall these videos are just put together wiht such love and care and it truly shows, whatever youre doing Funke I hope its as rewarding and fun as watching your videos are, Jah bless

I don't remember if he went over apex legends in his previous videos, soi would definitely give it a try. Best mobility you will get in a multiplayer game today, and it's rooted in the Titanfall universe.
When it comes to Neon White, I've had a good time just being able to breeze through and enjoy the gameplay, since as far as I can tell, the only required progression is to have good times on levels to raise your rank for the next set. Gifts and Dialogue are mainly there for folks who want to be invested in the characters.
@@AxolotlDreams-u- I love the side levels a lot, the removal of the timer makes the focus more on just making it through than being quick, which is a great change of pace and a nice break from the main levels. Also changes the game into nearly feeling more like a 3D version of a die-and-retry platformer like Meat Boy (I would love to see a 3D Celeste tbh)
@@Silver-Rexy Violets are pretty good but yellow and reds are kinda lacking imo. I get that its a challenge run but red and yellows just cut half of the mechanic and it gets a little dull. ultimately its fine, but I don't like it as much.
@@AxolotlDreams-u- I don't know how you went about playing through levels and collecting gifts but you generally get 1 sidequest per character per episode so they never ended up feeling dull for me. I actually think having VN downtime and less stressful mini missions between 10 level episodes is a really good pacing choice.

Man, can I just say that you had my eyes glued to the screen for the entire duration of this video? You're so engaging and skilled at production. Props to you and your team. I listened closely to the entire thing.
I used to constantly listen to that FUNKe Study ending song ""full version"" that you did on a livestream and then put into the ending of a video once, so hearing its melody(? i think i don't know music terms all too well) during all the transitions was making my brain go "hey I know that" in a very nice way. Your animation skill has sky rocketed! I can't imagine how much time it takes to make the little guy for everything like this and also come up with all of these creative ways to make him expressive. Your input on games is also great. Whenever I say "oh, the developer probably had this in mind for how the player approaches something or how they want it tackled." Other people have constantly retorted "nuh uh they just designed it to be fun, there was no intended or expected way to do something!" It always bugged me. I'm glad you can see things in the same way I do.

As someone who still plays Overwatch In 2022 I enjoyed hearing your takes on OW2. Personally it felt refreshing having someone giving more in-depth criticism to the game, though that may be due to the only other technically meaningful video about the game is Dunkey’s. Also it’s interesting timing considering we’re 2ish days away from the next beta with a new melee tank with Junker Queen. I wonder if this more aggressive nature of the game will continue into this next beta? Though I adored this video all the way through, always a treat to see ya talk about stuff you enjoy
Yeah i was really suprised to hear someone address what was actually different about the game and address the flaws instead of just "it's the same game for 60 dollars!".
I absolutely love the cutaway sections when talking about a different category. Really made everything feel like a casual documentary while cutting out the actual snores of watching an actual documentary. Always a fantastic day when you make a video. Great job as always Mr. Funk man
As a Gundam fan i really enjoy evolution, i’m super excited for the full release. The naming scheme might seem odd to someone who isnt a fan but believe me it makes more sense considering the universes each mobile suit is from

I love how I agree with everything Titanfall related Edited: these longer videos are actually great and I think something I should say is if you want to take time to make a longer video or add something you believe will improve your content or just to have a break go ahead
I have watched all of this series, and I love the way FUNKe reviews games. He plays like the dopamine fiends we all aspire to be when we get behind a high refresh monitor. He follows up this high-octane gameplay with a college thesis style breakdown of mechanics, story, and level design with quick witted humor thrown in to keep it light. All and all, one of my favorite UA-camrs of all time.

Out of all of the content creators I've followed throughout shifts in content, Funk's probably the only one who continues to make content I'm intensely interested in. I earnestly can't tell if it's that I'm always interested in the subject matter or I can literally listen to Justyn talk about anything so long as the scripts are this tight and the editing is this slick. Either way, thanks man. It's been a ride watching you from TF2 live-commentaries to now.
I.. actually really enjoyed the longform content. I can't say that it's my preference, but the occasional 40min funke video is worth waiting for. I felt like I was part of a discussion, instead of most other "reviews" being just "this thing is bad." You are very good at explaining things further than just "this happens and this is why bad". You throw in ideas for improvement, talk about the diamonds in the rough, and genuinely make a topic out if it instead of just putting out a video. Great work as always man.
you are far and away my favorite youtuber, creator, whatever you call it. I hope I can meet you one day man you are a huge inspiration and your videos provide me entertainment for weeks and weeks because they're just so rewatchable. Love you FUNKe
I literally cannot overstate how much I love your channel. You’re my favorite youtuber and have been for some time now, its not even close. Your script writing is the best I’ve ever seen, that includes like fully professional TV shows and movies. It would be so easy for your quippy fast paced style to get grating or cringe but it never even gets close! Thats to say nothing of the visuals; I’ve been a viewer for many many years now so I remember when you had nowhere NEAR the level of animation and editing you have now. I frequently rewatch your videos just to catch the numerous visual gags happening. It helps of course that you have almost identical taste to me: If you like something chances are I like it, if I like it, chances are you’re going to mention it at some point. Please never stop doing what you’re doing, you’re a bright spot in this subculture and an incredibly talented artist

What an awesome introductory video to your channel. Loved how this video was kinda all over the place. Never had any interest in Shadow Warrior either but your rundown of the story was pretty interesting.
Absolutely love your video style! The variety between the indie game reviews, to the map design research, then finally the Shadow Warrior trilogy review was such a treat! And your musical talents popping up more and more with your segment transitions and genuinely amazing flow with your rapping is so good. Fantastic stuff here FUNKe!
thank you for showing some love to the shadow warrior reboot! (i'm glad 3 returns to the 1st's form as i didn't like the feel of 2) I really liked that most upgrades were meaningful (each power and most alt fires had a specific use or fantasy attached) and that you got decorative reminders of your progressions in the three systems (seeing your guns look more badass, seeing the growing tattoos, and the japanese art filling out). also, the banter is superb 👌
been with your channel since i got into tf2 back in 2015 and gotta say, i love how far youve come. these videos get views, and thats because their damn good. if this doesnt hop on trending that means youtube hates ya.
Warfork is an amazing movement shooter just because of the dash and wall bouncing done through right clicking, dashing gives you speed, wall bouncing not only bounces, but lets you make 360 degree turns without losing speed, and trust me, you get a LOT of speed.

This. It felt like a dunkview and a bag of popcorn chicken had a baby
I actually liked it because I could watch this during work and stop when there was a cut.
he aint gonna fuck you bro just say nice video and move on
Love how you just casually wip out a rap XD
His rapping noises 😫 I love how the way he raps his own songs
He is a legend
And a pretty lit one too
Yeah
People have complained about your video pacing and density but I honestly love it. It's great seeing content that's distinctly stylistic and non-conformative to conventional video structures. It's very FLCL and I appreciate it
FLCL is an amazing experimental anime from the mid 2000s. FUNKe's content is properly reminiscent of FLCL and vice versa. W comment
FOOLe COOLe
I have never seen complaints about FUNKe’s video pacing or density, but I agree with the FLCL comparison.
@@StonkeyKong his recent video on concept albums had some criticism
I don't think you understand how cool your videos turn out with the amount of effort you put into it but your channel is the definition of cool
THANK YOU
"See what art you make" almost made me cry and I'm not sure why
@@lopocozo Because maybe you needed to hear it too.😄
Maybe not! But just in case: Give it a whirl.
Yeah that trilogy part kicked the most ass in the whole video, leaving the best for last! :D
The year is 20XX, FUNKe is now a channel dedicated to incredible quality editing; only making movement fps videos and weezer jokes
Whats with these homies dissin my girl
20:09 Words cannot describe how hilarious the implications that the musical/rap segments of some of these videos are made subconsciously and that you have no control over it. How Bombi goes from having such pure swag and dapperness to pure fear and anxiety is so damn funny. Best joke in any of your videos, hands down XD
Finally a comment about this.
Love your stuff like always! The raps are always my favorite, but I do wanna mention how I enjoyed the return to long-form with the Shadow Warrior series! Getting to see someone deep dive into material has always been my favorite type of entertainment on UA-cam.
Just in time for my beer, this is gunna be a good day.
NO WAY YOU LIKE HIM TOO? FAVORATE UA-camRS LIKE EACH OTHER LES GOOOOO
i think funke should try angerfoot
Me when I hear my alarm clock
Most functional Piss button in gaming very good.
beans
Ok but like, anime.
The people whining about anime need to grow up at some point.
i think he should try out angerfoot
I came back after just finishing Titanfall 2 to say…
Yeah it’s fantastic
Titanfall 2 and Teamfortress 2 are both abbreviated to Tf2

@@MarcoAdventures and they're both amazing
Just... *good* ?
Love the animations for bombie! Even with it being less animated it still feels great with the poses and voiceover. Really shows that sometimes limitations provide cool stuff!
..I'm not sure what I appreciate more, the fact that FUNKe broke out into song mid-explanation or the fact that he's unironically not that bad at it.
how to say you're new around here without saying you're new around here
He has a mixtape if you wanna listen to more
13:05 Not true!
9:41
Did somebody say my name?
walt, i dunno man. uve been seeming sus lately…
I've been looking for a comment like this i knew i couldn't be the only that immediately thought that
With regards to Neon White, its honestly my GOTY.
Man the game looks fun but I have a burning hatred for anime bullshit and especially visual novels
and machine girl made the soundtrack !!!
Did u make atomega
yo that sounds sick imma check it out!
@@jaydeem1264 i don’t think so?
I think a channel named blitz made a video about it, remember seeing it a while back
Seems like a tech demo.
kinda an interesting tonally changing video. starting with a quick review of more movement shooter indie games, then a discussion on hero shooter mapdesign, then a whole series review.

Its really motivating seeing how FUNKe went from not uploading at all for a year, to now pouring his heart out with his passion and tallent for comedy, writing, music and whatever it is he can use creatively. I don't remember if he went over apex legends in his previous videos, soi would definitely give it a try. Best mobility you will get in a multiplayer game today, and it's rooted in the Titanfall universe.
I will always absolutely love how many frames you have in your animation makes you feel way more alive.
Man, your animation has improved so much over the years. So much personality and the video flows really well.
it a little different tho
When it comes to Neon White, I've had a good time just being able to breeze through and enjoy the gameplay, since as far as I can tell, the only required progression is to have good times on levels to raise your rank for the next set. Gifts and Dialogue are mainly there for folks who want to be invested in the characters.
There are levels locked behind character interactions, though they're not nearly as interesting as the main campaign levels.
@@AxolotlDreams-u- I dunno, some of the most stand out levels in my opinions are the sidequests, specifically Violet's are a cut above the rest imo.

As someone who still plays Overwatch In 2022 I enjoyed hearing your takes on OW2.

I miss TF2 as much as you do FunkE, and hearing your consistent jokes and songs about the title breathe life into it's dead, necrotic eyes for me.

I really liked that most upgrades were meaningful (each power and most alt fires had a specific use or fantasy attached) and that you got decorative reminders of your progressions in the three systems (seeing your guns look more badass, seeing the growing tattoos, and the japanese art filling out). also, the banter is superb 👌
