@@Marvee78 That's not too bad for the setting. It's not really the age of the girl that people find creepy. It's the gap between their ages. Still, it's an interesting dilemma.
No, Dorne is not apart of the Seven Kingdoms at this time. They will join about 50-60years after the Great Council that saw Viserys I become heir (which was in 101 A.C.). It’s not through conquest, but a dual marriage of Targaryens and Martells.
At this time Targaryens still didn't manage to conquer Dorne. The Dornish managed to resist for so long, that they're still the least integrated part of the 7 Kingdoms. The fact that they're also a different race, the Rhoynar doesn't help either. That's also why Dorne is the only one of the 7 Kingdoms that's ruled by a prince, and not a lord.
@@thatoneblackdude3333 The Targaryens always declared themselves rulers of Dorne, they just never successfully conquered it. That's why it's called the Seven Kingdoms (The North, the Vale, Isles and Rivers, Stormlands, Westerlands, The Reach, and Dorne), those were the seven kingdoms that existed when Aegon began his conquest. So for around 170 years the Targs really only had control of six of the original kingdoms, even though they titled themselves ruler of all. (And even though currently there are 9 provinces)
"Back then..." In those days..." I keep hearing people talk about this show in those terms and, of course, I understand why. But do we really know WHEN this takes place, relative to our present? Keeping in mind, obviously, that this does not even take place on Earth. It's a whole different planet, where dragons exist and seasons last for years.
Hightower, in my opinion, is a slightly more self centered version of Tywin Lannister. Tywin wouldn't have let the Crabfeeder live, but both are super sneaky operators who will use their kids to get what they want. Remember Corlys is the richest most powerful lord in the realm. Hightower just knee-capped Corlys and set himself up to be grandfather of the one day king. All he needs to do now is get Rhaenyra out of the way...
A would be poacher is someone caught in the act but hasn't completed the task. It's like attempted robbery - pull a gun on someone and say hand over your money - but get caught before getting the money or shooting the gun - it's still illegal.
2nd episode of the series and these characters aren’t just pulling my heartstrings they’re actually making me shed tears. Like Rheanyra I also lost my mom far too soon, and while the pain has gotten easier to bear, like Viserys said it’s a pain that will *never* go away. This is the reason I loved Game Of Thrones, not only for the large scale battles or political machinations, but especially these genuine and beautiful moments of love, friendship and family.
The only show where the 12-year-old was the right choice.. 🤣 This isn't the only time we'll see Laena. She'll not stay 12 forever. And if Viserys is only 28, he had Rhaenyra at age 13.
Is a straight forward open suggestion to marry their young daughter creepier than The Hand telling his daughter to go comfort the king wearing her mother's dresses to worm his way to the crown?
They're both creepy for different reasons, first being she's just way too young, though that was the norm in medieval times, second being a father telling his daughter to go 'comfort' another man all while wearing his dead wife's/her mother's dress, both situations are parents treating their daughter like property.
To say I've been waiting for you guys to react to this episode, would be an understatement! Your reactions always fill my day with joy! Thx again for posting these reactions to the main channel!
Poor wounded Daemon. Viserys been shutting him down, was only way to get his bros attention. Otto blocked that, so they wouldn’t make up and be bros again. Sad actually. But Rhaenyra knowing him so well, that was great. She knew he was making it up. Was the only one who could diffused the situation.
Daemon doesn't want to overthrow his brother though? He wants to be heir, yes. He wants to get into his nieces pants, sure. But hurt any of his family? Never.
Hightower's daughter will be the mother of Aegon II, that in the future will fight Rhaenyra for the throne, as was told by Shireen Baratheon in GoT, when she was describing the "Dance of The Dragons" to her father Stannis.
15:50 is what i kept thinking this episode (and last too lol) We are the Crab People! Crab People! Crab People! Crab People! CRAB PEOPLE! CRAB PEOPLE! Look like crab, work at mobile stores like people!
George R R Martin is the one who popularized it into calling it Hot D actually, talking in interviews and on his blog about how that was what people on the set called it
If I learned anything from GOT is that there are no black or white characters. No one is all good or all bad... characters in this realm are all sorts of shades of grey, which makes it easy to kind of relate to them and hard to form an opinion and stick to it throughtout the series.
Having never watched GoT, I wasn't planning on watching HotD either. But I'll watch y'all watching it. Thanks for giving the gist of the story as you go along.
Translation of “would be poacher”: he rode down a commoner hunting on royal/noble land, probably just trying to feed their family. Also….good lord boys, you were rolling some nat 1s on your insight checks.
The castle is a very lonely place & there is so much in-fighting & pomp. Most of the people you do not trust. But then you have one other person who is around your age & you are best friends with & then that best friend ends up being maneuvered into being your new mother. Your best friend that you want to confide in is now going to have to give your father an heir so that men can kick you out of the line. The castle is an even lonelier place.
THANK YOU! I couldn’t figure out why I knew that voice.. It’s Dwalin! I just watched the hobbit trilogy the other day, I’m so mad I didn’t realize it then
*My* *Favorite* *HOT* *D* *Characters* *So* *Far* 1. Daemon 🖤 2. Rhaenyra 🖤 3. Otto 💚 (love his scheming and insults!) 4. Viserys (good man but not a wise king) 5. Corlys 🖤 6. Rhaenys 🖤 7. Laena 🖤 8. Alicent 💚 9. Criston 💚 10. Mellos 💚 (if the maester conspiracy is true) Daemon and Rhaenyra are #1 and #2, and it's not even close after that. It's like Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick for me this year in movies. Far and away my favs. Riding Caraxes and Syrax helps adds to their swag. We still haven't seen enough characters yet. Like Aegon II might finally be born by Ep 3 but is still a child. And it seems Helaena is a popular one with the greens by book fans. She's the one riding Dreamfyre which I can't wait to see next to Sunfyre. I can imagine Alicent moving way up once the beautiful, Olivia Cooke, takes over. One-eyed Aemond is another important member from the greens. We still haven't seen Laenor 🖤, Laena's brother. I believe he'll appear in Ep 3. Many GOT/HOT D reactors are Black people. Good to see them get more represented. We do see Laenor in the trailers and he's chatting with his cousin, Rhaenyra, along a beach. 💒 It's ironic. Otto Hightower would be my #1 for most hated character on HOT D by a wide-margin. He's despicable. He's the one I want to see die first. He's the real villain to all this. But he would also rank in my top 3 for favorites because I like bad characters if the acting is great and Rhys is great. To me, Matt Smith and Rhys Ifans really carry this show. The rivalry between Daemon vs. Otto carries it. They enjoy trolling each other. It's the best so far until older Rhaenyra vs. older Alicent go at it. I'll admit, HOT D does feel smaller in scope due to we are only following fewer Houses. But I don't mind it. Easier to follow. A lot of my character rankings can change from each season. That's why we need to keep watching. Who knows if I start HATING Daemon and Rhaenyra by Season 5? Maybe Alicent is my favorite by the end? They will all do bad things and they will all die. The End. Off to that next GOT spin-off with more sex, graphic violence, incest, pedophilia, pimping children, parents killed by their children, parents or relatives killing children, and grey characters you either love or hate or love AND hate at the same time.
Your jib guy is Graham McTavish. He’s Scottish and fabulous. He’s also in Outlander and has a great travel show with Sam Heugan on STARZ. He’s a gem. Also- Daemon is amazing- get on board man 😜
To be honest the king pretty much put himself in this position. had he not just acknowledged his daughter as his heir from the beginning and not Waste his time or his wife’s life and efforts on having a boy regardless of tradition then he would probably still have a wife and the council would not be in Descent. Also he wouldn’t have to choose between a 12-year-old or a 16-year-old girl for his next wife
Its easy to say that seeing the results but in this world he has to have a son so his desperation makes since his real mistake was not making sure rhaneryas claim couldn't be contested , the moment he named his daughter his hier he should have rewrote the law so that by all accounts she would be hier regardless of gender but he never did that he just assumed his word was enough.
There's a reason he put himself in that position though and it's because it's the expectations of the entire realm. The show is making it quite clear that naming a woman heir when there is a male alternative will likely lead to war.
@@Kidapollo92 The show is taking plenty of time to explain how the society works and it isn't particularly fruitful to wish that things were different. Acting without adhering to the reality around us is not particularly smart.
Dorne was not yet a part of the 7 kingdoms..... Interestingly it was right around a winter was coming... maybe thought "hey this could THE ONE... we need to get westeros in line... like NOW" and decided to invade Dorne.
George R. R. Martin has gone on record saying that Vesyrs (or however it’s spelt) is a good man, but a bad king. It’s been shown time and time again in Game of thrones that to be a good king, you need to be a dick, and sometimes even a monster.
You don't need to be a dick or a monster to be a good king targaryens had plenty of good kings and they didn't need to be assholes to key the realm in order you just need to have a backbone which is what vaserys lacks.
The very first time I heard "Hot D" was from GRRM himself on his blog. I don't know if he came up with that himself, but it had to have been someone early on in production, so maybe it just became the name among the crew/cast while filming. Maybe it was the fake name given to the project when they were getting filming permissions from various jurisdictions, which Hollywood does with every project they film that is secretive at all. I'm guessing it was just a joke on set one day and it stuck. But it's definitely not a fan thing post trailer viewing.
Yep, the Conqueror failed to subdue Dorne, since unlike the other kingdoms they combined asymmetric warfare with their geographic advantages. You can’t insinterate assassins who disappear into the hills as easily as you do marching armies. It won’t be for 4 more generations (and several more monarchs than that) on the throne until Dorne finally joins through a marriage alliance (hence the Martell’s maintained words “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.” It’s why the Martell ruler of Dorne gets to a “prince” instead of a “lord paramount” like the other former royal houses (Stark, Lannister, Arryn, etc)
"HOT-D" is apparently what George RR Martin has been referring to this as all the way through it's development. "Project: Codename - HOT D" I'm sure is a joke he's gotten COUNTLESS HOURS of amusement out of. But it's less of an "unfortunate accident" than many of us were expecting and instead actually planned/decided #FeatureNotABug
I don’t think Daemon would kill Rhaenyra but if he did it would poison him in the eyes of everyone in the realm in such a way that no one could ever accept him as king

Its weird that they implemented drone in vaserys speech last episode when the targaryens don't have control of dorne yet .
"Back then..."
In those days..."
I keep hearing people talk about this show in those terms and, of course, I understand why.
Doesn’t marry the 12 year old but chooses the 15 year old …Still a bad situation lol ,Can’t wait for the next episode
🐉⚔️🦀
Came to say this - Alicent is 15 😅
All they need in Westeros to wed a highborn girl is her "first blood." Alicent is unfortunately well past that.
You guys just said you watched and enjoyed the Hobbit triology but have you realised the king's protector is one of the dwarves Graham McTavish
Make you wonder if they were trying to open the first hot dog stand in King's Landing.... lol
Daemon lives for the drama.
Daemon IS the drama (or, at least *half* the drama. Rhaenyra is the other half)
A really good hopscotch..chuckling..thanks for the chuckle
Wild to think that Otto Hightower is the same actor as Dr. Curtis Connor / The Lizard in TASM 🤯
Viserys is supposed to be 28? That's a rough 28.
Dude, you have got to stop with the spoilers
In the books he was 14 and his wife 13.
In the book I think Rhaenyra is 8 at this point.
8:52 "She's NAWT into it!" LOL
If Daemon tried to kill Rhaenyra, no one would be left except the two dragons.
You know I wasn’t sure about it in the promo picks, but yeah Matt Smith is rocking that wig
I think the Crab King is Iron Born.
@Vegvisir92 I guess it doesn't matter now. Lol
15:50 is what i kept thinking this episode (and last too lol)
We are the Crab People!
Crab People! Crab People! Crab People!
CRAB PEOPLE! CRAB PEOPLE! Look like crab, work at mobile stores like people!
(Adam, @6:06.) He was a knight. Or, no, he was a Dragon Knight. Or maybe he was just a dragon.
-The Song of Drogdor the Burninator
George R R Martin is the one who popularized it into calling it Hot D actually, talking in interviews and on his blog about how that was what people on the set called it
If I learned anything from GOT is that there are no black or white characters. No one is all good or all bad... characters in this realm are all sorts of shades of grey, which makes it easy to kind of relate to them and hard to form an opinion and stick to it throughtout the series.
Good thing Raenaeris rolled with DRAG-Vantage.
I swear I need to see Melisandre on House of the Dragon.
That would be freaky. It could work.
Having never watched GoT, I wasn't planning on watching HotD either. But I'll watch y'all watching it. Thanks for giving the gist of the story as you go along.
Y'all are good people. Thank you for sharing that goodness with us!
Translation of “would be poacher”: he rode down a commoner hunting on royal/noble land, probably just trying to feed their family.
Also….good lord boys, you were rolling some nat 1s on your insight checks.
I think I read somewhere that 'HOT D' was actually the acronym used by the showrunners themselves so we're not necessarily responsible for that...
George RR Martin calls it HotD. Whether it was realized ahead of time or not, the creators are on board
The crab impressions had me in stitches
The jib man.... Love him! Mr. Graham McTavish. IMDb way too long to get into but... Outlander, The Witcher, Preacher, Lucifer, The Hobbit...
THANK YOU! I couldn’t figure out why I knew that voice.. It’s Dwalin! I just watched the hobbit trilogy the other day, I’m so mad I didn’t realize it then
*My* *Favorite* *HOT* *D* *Characters* *So* *Far*
1. Daemon 🖤
2. Rhaenyra 🖤
3. Otto 💚 (love his scheming and insults!)
4. Viserys (good man but not a wise king)
5. Corlys 🖤
6. Rhaenys 🖤
7. Laena 🖤
8. Alicent 💚
9. Criston 💚
10. Mellos 💚 (if the maester conspiracy is true)
Daemon and Rhaenyra are #1 and #2, and it's not even close after that.
It's ironic.
There is a theory that Dreamfyre is the mother of Drogon Rhaegal and Viseryon
@@thatoneblackdude3333 i like that
There's a reason he put himself in that position though and it's because it's the expectations of the entire realm. The show is making it quite clear that naming a woman heir when there is a male alternative will likely lead to war.
@@Evil_Peter he is the king they should do well to respect his choice
@@Kidapollo92 The show is taking plenty of time to explain how the society works and it isn't particularly fruitful to wish that things were different. Acting without adhering to the reality around us is not particularly smart.
So is it not Game of Thrones House of the Dragon so it would be GOT HotD.
Dorne was not yet a part of the 7 kingdoms.....
Interestingly it was right around a winter was coming... maybe thought "hey this could THE ONE... we need to get westeros in line... like NOW" and decided to invade Dorne.
George R.R. Martin is the one who first called it "Hot D." 🤣
Damon was doing that to get his brother's attention he loves his family and his niece I don't think he would ever hurt her
George R. R. Martin has gone on record saying that Vesyrs (or however it’s spelt) is a good man, but a bad king. It’s been shown time and time again in Game of thrones that to be a good king, you need to be a dick, and sometimes even a monster.
Viserys* most certainly a good man, but good men aren't always good kings.
Actually they aged up Viserys but aged down Leana.
In the books Viserys is 29i and Leana is 17, as far as i remember.
Viserys doesn’t have grey scale but the crab king does it’s why he wears that helmet and possibly crab feeders has grey scale too
HOTD will always be High-school of the Dead to me
I decided to re-watch these until I find something y'all watch that I can give a go to see if I like. Miss you guys
Alicent Hightower would be 24 if Rhaenyra is 15
Btw, that’s not a dragon fight, but those won’t happen until later on, probably season 2-3.
It’s very seldom I hear anyone reference Homestar Runner. These are my people.
I just subscribed to Fix-It but you guys should definitely do a fix it episode for the end of Supernatural!
If Daemon hated his family hed already be King. Better warrior/schemer with a bigger Dragon
Spoiler ....

.quite the opposite will happen 😅
Paddy Considine is a superb actor
Dead Man's Shoes is a great drama and his is very funny in Hot Fuzz
Oh wow, I've watched that movie a few times but it didn't click until I googled him without the wig. He's an Andy!
I'm a Stark family fanatic.. so the end of GoT doesn't bother me at all
Going in to the final episodes I decided I wanted one thing to be happy with the ending and that was Sansa as Queen in the North. The end doesn’t bother me either. I love that she went full mad Queen. Shocks me that people didn’t see it coming.
PLEASE WATCH BRAMHASTRA TRAILER. An upcoming Bollywood movie releasing on September 9th. The hype is unimaginable. Its storyline is conceptualized on ancient Indian weapons and warriors who protect them. It's based on Hindu mythology.
Trogdor. That's a name I haven't heard in quite a long while.
such a fun episode!~ thanks guys!~~
If you can't remember the name... just think... Matt Daemon
I may be misinformed, but I’ve heard that’s what George abbreviated it to.
What else would you abbreviate it to lol
@@HQofrandom HO TD
To me, Daemon's looking for attention from his brother. Acting out like an ignored child who's not exactly wholly evil. It's a lot more interesting to think that they're all actually doing what's best for the realm... as they see it.
matt Smith's dragon looks like smaug
If Jay becomes Adam's step dad, it will be fun to watch.. OMG 🤣😂🤭
"He actually likes his niece" -yeah but with this family: ew
