  • Hello and welcome back everyone, on today’s video we will be discussing the running costs on my Mercedes C63 AMG for the past 12 months. We will be talking about many things but obviously it’s all down to the individual. But hopefully this can give you some sort of guideline on how much C63 ownership could cost you. As always if you have any questions please do ask below!

      @@NathanMannin yes. I am currently contemplating to get a c63 estate or e63 estate between 08 & 11- how unsure about which model and engine to get. Internet states m156 pre-facelift engine had many issues but it seems only the black edition of 2011 onwards had better long lasting engines. What’s your take on this? Are the problems with prefacelift 08 engines as prevalent as they state online?

    • @NathanMannin
      @NathanMannin  2 роки тому +1

      @@MrSpotmefly It depends where you’re based as I can only speak for the UK as I’m in C63 UK groups and based in the UK. Apparently the head bolt issue for pre facelift C63’s was quite rare here in the UK but more problematic over in the US. You can check your engine number and research if that engine number falls under the category under the affected engines. Or if you’re unsure you could probably contact Mercedes for some more clarity as they’ll be able to help you out. Most cars that have had the issue would’ve done enough miles by now to have the issue resolved already or fixed by now. Lower mileage examples of pre facelift C63’s could still have the problem unresolved, but the first course of action would be to check the engine number to see if your car even has the number that was affected. To choose between the E63 and C63 is a tough one, it depends how much you need the practicality I suppose! Both share the same engine so they have the same potential for power. C63 out of the box is detuned compared to its bigger brother the E63 for sales purposes, but you can easily map the C63 to have the same power. Then of course the E63 is around 250kg heavier than the C63, so you’d have to take that into consideration too!

      @@NathanMannin really grateful for your very measured conclusion. I am based in the UK, at the capital. Currently have 05 x5 3.0l but apart from the fact that it’s a great workhorse, driving pleasure is limited, understandably for a 2ton suv. Hence, my inclusion criteria for an fast wagon is that - 1.) I yearn driving pleasure, then 2.)comes practicality/spaciousness - as we have a kid. Lux and tech are add ons (not fussed). Hence I am eyeing for the 6.2l NA estates rather than the bi-turbos. Can you kindly sign post me to any forums/UKclubs you found useful for AMG newbies? Taking the leap of faith here :) and cannot get my hands on an amg estate. • @NathanMannin
      @NathanMannin  3 роки тому +2

      Yes absolutely! : ) I suppose as this was part of my 12 months ownership I didn’t really account for tire wear as my rears were already low when I bought them, so a year later I didn’t really have anything to share with you in terms of tyres as I hadn’t changed them. Although they are notorious for chewing up rear tyres if you’re lively driver. Yet again though that’s down to the individual and driving style, I could probably make my rears last a lot longer due to my more sedate approach of driving!

    I'm thinking about going for the 6.2 C63 coming from my stage 2 A45.
    I'd heard the fuel on these were terrible but actually it sounds like you're getting similar mpg to me.
    Is this an upgrade from an A45?
    I couldn't afford the w205 C63 but I love the w204

    • @NathanMannin
      @NathanMannin  2 роки тому +7

      Hi Jack! I’ve covered in my recent £10 challenge video what sort of realistic mpg you can get and I’ll probably do some future videos on mpg. But strictly speaking these cars can be somewhat ok with fuel considering the engine size. I’ve seen loads of 2.0 4 cylinder engines from the likes of S3’s Golf R’s getting 18mpg when driving hard. When I drive mine hard I can get anything from 12/17mpg. But on mixed driving I get 19-24mpg. Motorway long distance driving is more like 25-29mpg. Is it an upgrade to an A45? I can’t answer that without being bias as I’ve never owned one. But I get the privilege of driving a M140i very often. I can tell you that driving the C63 is by far more of an occasion. It’s theatric, it’s funny, it’s got bundles of character. It’s more practical, the seats are super comfy, the ride isn’t too bad, it’s got a decent looking interior. Then you have the power plant of an engine which is just to die for really. This is a car you’d want to experience before they become in financially unobtainable. The power delivery and the noise the car makes it just biblical and there’s isn’t much out there which sounds as good as a M156 engine. You can tune the C63 to 510/550bhp depending on the tune, so i imagine it’ll be just as fast as a stage 2 A45 if not quicker.
      I could spend hours writing about the C63. But in my opinion, the C63 would be an upgrade from an A45 and they’re only appreciating in value. I’m in C63 groups, and people often will upgrade to a W205. Then they often will go back to the W204 again, because they’re just that great of a car.
      If you’re coming from an A45 stage 2, I imagine the fuel won’t be too much worse unless you have a lead weighted foot 😉 Of course you won’t have 4WD and will have traction issues, especially in the wet. But that’s all part of the fun right? : )
      If I was in your position, I would go for the W204, it’s an experience everyday. I often make excuses just to drive the thing. Even if I have enough milk at home, I’ll get some more anyway just to go for a blast.
      You should buy one, immediately 😉

      @@kanedavenport8419 VR6 nice! They sound terrific they do! Supercharging them will cost 10-15k depending on what stage you want to go to, so not cheap by all means. The thing is with my C63 in particular, it’s got more than enough power than you’ll ever need and it’s so intoxicating especially partnered in with the sound and brutality of it’s power delivery. Then of course the up shifts and downshifts sound nuts, as well as the instant kick downs is just so addictive. For me I wouldn’t need more power, supercharging it would be more of a thing if I had abundance of spare cash I guess. Of course in the UK it’s often wet and in the colder times of years it can struggle to put power down. But for me I’ve never had an issue driving mine through winter. Having 4WD would give maximum power in all conditions, but could that take away some of the fun factor and will it feel less rewarding? I can’t say for sure as I’ve never driven an E63. However I do love the surprise element of the C63 and that as the driver I am the one who has to take the reigns and keep the car in control. But I suppose it’s all down to the individual whether they want more safety and power availability all the time. I do think it does take away what AMG is all about having the 4WD, but I’m pretty sure newer models have a function where you can switch it to RWD only I believe (not 100% sure might have to look that up) I would definitely recommend driving both the C63 and E63, in my opinion I don’t think there’s anything else out there what can offer the C63 does, especially for its price. Power wise they have plenty enough, especially with a map and it just gives me a feeling like no other car has honestly. Such a compelling package at such a great price, I just couldn’t imagine going to an E63 and having the same feeling as the purity and rawness the C63 gives : )

      The C63s I’m assuming you’re referring to the W205 with the 4.0 V8? That’s going to be better on fuel than the 6.2 V8 but it won’t be night and day in terms of difference.

      @homiixide 3 роки тому

      @@NathanMannin Yes, I’m referring to the 4.0 V8.
      I asked multiple owners and they all say about 250-300 miles of normal driving which is actually pretty good considering you drive an AMG.
      You think that number is realistic?

      @NathanMannin  3 роки тому

      @@homiixide I don’t know the answer to that as I’ve never owned the 4.0 V8. My 6.2 C63 on mixed driving gets 150/200 miles on a tank of fuel, I imagine 250/300 miles in the 4.0 V8 sounds realistic I think.

      @@NathanMannin 150-200 miles is kind of bad but then again it’s a 6.2l.
      I’m guessing you’ll be visiting a gas pump every 2-3 days, if you daily this car?

      @@homiixide It’s all relative really, I’ve had 300 miles in one tank when driving it economically on a motorway. Then I’ve also had 100 miles when driving it really fast! Thankfully I don’t daily the C63, if I did I would need to sell my house ;)

      @@jim8462 I’m a little envious I have to admit ;) That’s going to be NUTS! 🥜 Just out of curiosity, what is the ballpark figure when buying a supercharged C63? As the kit itself is 10-15k to get done itself.

      @@NathanMannin The bill to have to the supercharger and the diff done was 14.5k so yeah it’s a lot of money. It also comes with genuine 507 wheels as well. My friend has a c63 which is supercharged but he’s also had the rear arches done to fit bigger wheels which is something I would look into but that’s another 5.5k for the arches plus wheels and tyres.

    If £2,200 is a lot of money to you for insurance then you probably shouldn't have a car like this.
    Save it for a house.

      I already have a house. Like I explained in the video if it was £2,200 then the plan was to keep it short term, in the end I got it down to circa £700 so I could warrant keeping it. 3 years later and I still own it! : )
