I think it's far less nefarious. You've got people that are just finding the laziest possible way to do their job and when they never face a single repercussion or have some kind of indemnity - they will keep doing it.
There is, but it's complicated. Housing pressure is a huge political issue at the moment, so being able to say "we build x amount of new housing in the area" puts pressure on local governments to approve, as they get pressure from state government to increase their population capacity in their wards. Then on top of that, go to any political drinks night, and see who is there, it's 75% real estate agents, or construction ceos. They love to feel important, they provide lots of jobs and can provide for a political hunger in the population. They get away with loads. But it's how the game is played. You gotta go rub shoulders too, so you can bend their ears. It's not really so much money, as much as always being around the people that make the decisions.
The Greed in property at the moment is getting unbelievable. Chinese contractors should be scrutinised with far more prejudice. 1:10:00 how dismissive these guy's are to the poor woman the amount of money $2.2M 1:16:36 I'm sure the act would address wether or not the building inspector had been negligent or is committing fraud.
there is supposed to be an inspection at every stage of the build. Building isn't supposed to continue until it is done. The problem is the builders get their preferred inspectors who sign off on garbage. If you are building a home, you should really be paying for your own inspector too. It is in your best intrests.
49:47 eddy currents is a term from electrical engineering, basically a conductor, pretty much any metal will induce currents when it moves through a magnetic field, or a magnetic field moves past the conductor. The current induced creates its own magnetic field in the metal, which works against the inducing magnetic field. There are a lot of demonstrations of this, when you let a metal pendulum pass through a magnetic field it gets slowed down so much that it basically stops. This effect is often used at rollercoasters to stop the rollercoaster without having to worry about wear and tear for breaks, for example. However, I have absolutely no clue why they would introduce eddy currents for anything in the wind loading section of a house construction, especially in regard to response spectrum design… this makes no sense at all.

The colab we never expected with Friendly Jordies. Love to see it
I repeat after you: "What's happening in this country???"... I feel very ashamed!
You’re doing a great job exposing this man. So glad you’re in Melbourne. When you show the bad stuff, can you also say what it should be like instead? Eg check out this rusted beam, it should look blue like the others, see how they used a nail for the floor, they should have used xxxx
And just think.. they're looking to reduce red tape to make it easier for builders to build more homes to solve the housing crisis. If you think it's bad now, imagine what it's going to be like in the future.
look at it as it is. there breaking the rules now. reducing the red tape will have more builders building quicker. its up to the regulator to actually do there job. make the red tape easier to cut. now, while removing red tape enforcement of rules and mega penalties applied. that would sort.it put quick smart
@@748tech Do you actually hear the words that come out of your mouth and think "hmm yes this makes sense and I should share this thought with everyone"?
@kezia8027 yes, the the current system of over regulation and lack of enforcement is working so well. You obviously have zero idea as every builder who is worth paying says the same.
reduce the regulation to get things moving cheaper and enforce the standards set out.
your concepts is use more rules that aren't enforced anyway. do you think before replying?
Thank you albo for increasing immigration, its really enriching Sydney so much
All quality issues are preventable by controlling input (quality materials, quality skills), process (standards, practices, education, re-education) and outputs (stage controls, replace contractors, fixing mistakes).
Inputs hard to fix but easy to choose right ones, outputs - very costly to do, process is manageable by education and enforcement but it job only for good political policies…
It's far beyond holding an individual builder/surveyor accountable, it's about getting the correct information to the masses to inform them of best practice when looking to build, how to discern dodgy from competent professionals. I think it's exactly like learning how to learn navigate the internet and not infect your PC with malware/viruses etc.
Young Alvi is extremely impressive with his knowledge and keen eye for detail. Both of you are real professionals.... Unlike everyone else concerned in this cluster fluck!
Nothing like building something significant and saying "it should be okay". Oozing confidence.

Getting your money back is not a thing in this business, at least not before long and expensive court action.
While you're right, they should and probably could via the courts, it's hard to do.
This is genuinely horrendous though

Mate, those stairs?! The washers barely cover the bolt holes and that piddly little screw holding the steel stringer... WTF??? These inspectors/surveyors need to be locked up along with the builders. Keep up the great work!
That was unreal hey
Just discovered this channel, nice work mate. Someone really needs to be doing this, good on you for taking up the mantle. Would love to see you go one step further and name those who approved of this and signed off on it. It will mean taking on corrupt local council officials, but I've seen so much of this myself, it is long overdue.

US general contractor here. I was seriously inspired by this guy to seek out being a site inspector myself in my area. When reaching out for the 120hr class, I found there are about 20 options, and the lowest possible cost for a "fundamentals course" in my area is $3,500...i guess ill just keep worrying about my duke size and that weird smell from my bathroom faucet...
Bro for 3500 bucks it’s a pretty easy job
you're telling me I can sell three shipping containers duct taped on top of each other with some MDF in between for $3.1m if it's in West Melbourne
- shipping containers would not have structural integrity issues
- 2.1 m, not 3.1 m
- you pay for location, 2.1 m is not expensive for this location
yep, and probably that stapled containe are better compliant 😊
Shipping containers are designed to last, This home is a Tofu building, Fall apart during the next major storm.
I mean... yes.
Containers are built better. Stronger, fairly resistant to salt water and most of the time the walls are straight. I'd love to be able to build using just shipping containers.
this is the highest design, supervision, management & trade incompetence on all levels, these people need to face charges & not be allowed back in the industry in any way
Just googled the builder, and google says, temporarily closed. Suddenly, the builder has disappeared since you started sharing videos of their dodgy build.
At least the builder saved money ordering from their cousins from Alibaba. I was worried about how they would register another business under a different name without money. God bless the VBA.
When two of my favourites collaborate, it gives me hope.
I think jail time for the builder and the people who sign off the paperwork
Beyond remediation. Feel for the home owners. Heartbreaking to watch
I'm pumped for this collab, nice cross over!
I am not surprised by how many crooks there are in the property market.
You're the first person I have seen that is using an AR Headset for actual professional reasons, recording and documents. Really cool!
Also very happy to live in an apartment that was built in the 1930s, it's solid as a rock, no crazy issues.

Thank you so much 🙏❤️
There needs to be a Royal Commission into the building industry and their shoddy practices.
Yeh, right, the system is corrupt all the way to the top, the courts are gone, only street justice now, because it's out of control !
Loving your fire safety consultant
The whole process is corrupt. Some major issues with the Aussie housing industry. Great job exposing this.
You are of great value my friend!
I haven't watched in full yet, but watching you give your key chains away reminded me that my daughter wants one for her 16 birthday. If that doesn't tell your something about how wide your target audience is, I don't know what does.
hello from canada. I'm a practicing architect of 40 ish years in British Columbia Canada.Contractors will always try to max profits at the customers expense. Some i have had to do daily inspections! Well done you for highlighting deficiencies...keep it up
There has to be some sort of corruption going on with the vba.
Could it be the offshore developers lining the vba and governments pockets and there just signing off thier own work all in house? 🤔
Follow the money.
You hit the nail on the head!!
interesting to see what happens now as apparently the government sacked the whole vba board. hopefully it means an overall and new and actually useful vba. but i doubt it. to many pencil pushes in there and not enough trades persons with actual experience
A TOTAL LOSS
33:28 Looks so Dodgy, Easy paint it Matt Black :)
WAIT, this is such a random cross over I LOVE IT😍😍😍😍
The Greed in property at the moment is getting unbelievable. Chinese contractors should be scrutinised with far more prejudice.
1:10:00 how dismissive these guy's are to the poor woman the amount of money $2.2M
1:16:36 I'm sure the act would address wether or not the building inspector had been negligent or is committing fraud.
Thank God for site inspections. It might not feel like it sometimes but I’m sure he is making a huge difference in the industry
What we need is a pre plaster frame inspection. When all the electrics and plumbing are finished.
there is supposed to be an inspection at every stage of the build. Building isn't supposed to continue until it is done. The problem is the builders get their preferred inspectors who sign off on garbage. If you are building a home, you should really be paying for your own inspector too. It is in your best intrests.
I'm really looking forward to this video, saw the original one on it and boy I wish we get more follow up videos soon.
this guy could easily have his own show on TV whilst actually helping the industry
The balcony overflow is so completely unbelievably fucked up. Has to be criminal at this point. 5:40

I'm going to guess that the building surveyor who inspected and then signed off on these units has already boarded a plane and left Australia.
Could start a trend!

I used to live in a brand new block of townhouses that were built so bad.. if you leaned against a wall in the kitchen you could see the wall flex in the garage.
Then bumped into someone years later who coincidentally worked on building them. Reckons every corner that could be cut was cut
if im right this looks like 218 rosslyn street west melbourne. one of the places is up for rent for $1900 per week rent and seemingly averaging $2500 rent a week. thats crazy to be paying that much to live in a place that has so many issues and seems like it could fall apart at any point.
One of the properties is listed for $1.5m. imagine paying $7k a month for a mortgage one this, insane behaviour.
All this so you can live in a "TownHaus" building built by the ViaPac group
Unfortunately,we can't even trust the inspector's anymore.....Keep it up,luv da vids😊
IMO most likely paid off by the developers.

if you pause at 47:43 , it shows Goldnest Construction on the letterhead, well I can only say they messed up this job big time
Everything should go into a lawyers trust account till inspection are done right. Then builders should get paid
Or hold the money in a trust account for 6 months and if anything goes wrong the home owner get a refund
I hope you keep us all updated on this build. This builder, surveyor and engineer all should be removed from there property.
I'm a little confused. So the surveyor has no responsibility in any of the defects that were signed as ok ? Getting the OC means absolutely nothing ?
They do have professional indemnity insurance, and there's the VBA Code of Conduct.
Your Videos are already reaching to Germany. You are doing a Great job 💪😎 keep growing mate ❤
Thank you so much 😀

Fascinating videos mate and very well produced - I wonder if it would be a good idea to do occasional cutaways to what these things ideally should look like?

The builder is Frank Spencer & Co
2M for a box thatll need a tear down and rebuild in 3 years
Some shady deals apparently are going down, in Australia, from the builders to the inspectors, hands are being greased tho whole way and in the end the homebuyer ends up paying the price……Smfh!
Wow, the screw holding up the metal beams that support the stairs is scarry. The overflow going into the wall is bad. There is so much wrong here.
I would appreciate a breakdown of your onsite vest and it's attachments correlated to your potential onsite requirement of them. It's awesome.
Keep the industry accountable sir.

They needed you in the video 😂😂. Love your videos btw 😊
Thanks mate!
"Shame on VBA and the building surveyor" well said. The bastards from VBA should be resigned and the surveyor to be jailed
The only solution is to bring back council certification like 30 years ago.
Agree, but councils are duck shuving liability and insurance. My certifier is paying 50K pa insurane
Big reason they got rid of that system was so many council inspectors were taking brown paper bags from developers. May as well just bypass that and the builders can pay the money directly.
Also many council inspectors / MBS lack experience.
@@smiddysmidton8313 so exactly whats going on now

I heard of one Chinese building using garden hose for the plumbing. Fortunately he was caught.
This video makes me feel sad for the whole industry because with all the new houses being built and all the new housing being done really fast, you just know they’re all going for 1mill plus but I can bet majority of them would be non compliant and dodgy affff!
Wow an actual good use for the Apple Vison Pro.
Sherlock Homes would be a good channel name for these investigations
Thank Mate . Exposing how the building industry operate in Melb . First developers doesnt want to pay to a structural engineer consultants. Always engaged the cheaper on the market . Second doesnt want to pay structural engineer to inspect the work on site . Third Builders some of them doesn't even know how to read the drawings. and doesnt want to pay to engineer to review the alternative . They just do it .
I love the idea of the keychains but I wish one of the recordings was “non-compliant”! I’d use it several times a day 😂
I love the building surveyor's email, which basically says his issued Occupancy Certificate means nothing and is an unconscionable waste of paper.
Why arent all the other owners kicking up about it its obvious the whole complex is non compliant!!!
Maybe they are.
The problem is the government has let standards slide as part of a jobs creation bonanza - both now and in future when these houses degrade quickly and need replacing.
Full employment means even the “she’ll be right mate” brigade get to build houses, and surveyors too afraid to criticize the builders that employ them.
Ohhh Class Action time naming everyone , that would make people think twice
37:22 this is like the government saying it allows cars to be on the road because the manufacturer says it’s safe, while not CHECKING that there are actually airbags or seatbelts
I’m speechless. How can the V B A ignore this? It is morally wrong and goes against everything we are taught growing up in this country. Seriously how can this be allowed any longer.
I hope you have sent a please explain to V B A?
