    Hey Mitch, fellow Aussie here. I've gone down a very similar path to yourself except i bought my Europicola a few years back when they were about a grand. Best mod by far is the PPK. I've just recently added an Air Buster relief valve to it though. Still not sure if i like the looks but being able to lift the arm without fear of disturbing the puck is worth every cent and the pull is definitely firmer. I'm playing with ideas atm re an analogue temp gauge for the grouphead. I was looking at the digital gauges but they just don't do it for me aesthetically.
    Keep up the good work mate! 👍🏼

      Thanks so much mate 👍
      I wanted the air buster also... but the looks just didn't cut it for me... as I don't use this machine often, I wanted it to look nice 🤣

    Mitch, enjoy your channel. Best improvement to La Pavoni by far: Air Buster.

    Bong isolator is by far my favourite mod, thermal management issues gone!

    • @mitchdoescoffee
      @mitchdoescoffee  Рік тому

      I would agree. As my LP isn't my main machine, I don't leave it on long enough for it to overheat.

    • @StudioNapoleoniiird
      @StudioNapoleoniiird Рік тому +1

      @@mitchdoescoffeeI like the isolator as even just for a single shot it allows me to very easily control the grouphead temperature. I do have a 2nd gen which originally had a steam heated gh, so improvements are probably far more noticeable on my machine.

      I also don't need the isolator as I only make one drink a day. I can see why a regularly used machine would benefit though.

    Hey Mitch, cheers from Northern Germany.
    i am currently in the process of restoring a 1996 Europiccola tto its former glory.
    Thanks to your videos I feel very confident about this litttle project. I got the machine in a similar condition as yours for 160 Euros (which equates to abot 260 AUD I think) so I got some wiggle room for upgrades 😉.
    what I would maybe add is the boiler pressure gauge as it might give you some flexibility in when to start the brewing process. You can then play around with different starting temps/pressures.
    Nice upgrades in terms of style would be a new drip tray grid (coffee sensor has some nice ones) as the black plastic is not that pretty. And maybe a stainless steel sight glass cover. There is also an upgraded roller/bearing for the lever that is supposed to reduce play and make the movement smootther but I don't know whether that is still necessary with the pressure profiling kit or if it maybe even comes with it.
    Anyways thanks for your great content. Looking forward to more. ☕

      Hey mate! Thanks so much for your comment.
      That is EXTREMELY cheap! Well done.
      The coffee sensor kit comes with a much better pin kit & has almost zero movement. 👌

    I've recently purchased a used & neglected La Pavoni Professional. I'm getting ready to clean it up, put in new gaskets, etc. Your videos have been a god-send. Well Done & Thank You!
    How would you recommend cleaning the inside and outside of the machine to get off some little rust spots and some big caked on coffee under the drip tray? I've seen a recommendation of taking it apart and soaking the whole thing in a citric acid/water mixture. And, would you descale it by using white vinegar or are the packets of descaling powder a better choice?
    If anyone has an opinion, please respond. Thanks in advance!

    • @mitchdoescoffee
      @mitchdoescoffee  4 місяці тому

      Hey mate. Congratulations on the purchase & welcome to the LP family.
      Yes, the soaking method does work, just be careful with the mixture as you could potentially damage the finish. Old school BMX bicycle forums are great for this info.
      I would recommend the cafetto liquid descaler for servicing the insides.

      @@mitchdoescoffee Thanks so much for the reply. Could you clear something else up for me. I saw on one of your videos (or maybe someone else) that a Gasket Seal Set being used included two types of grease. I'm in the United States and I can't find any Gasket Seal Sets that include any grease. However, when I search for espresso machine grease at Amazon, quite a few choices come up. So, my questions are: (1) what are the two or one types of grease I need for my La Pavoni Professional refurb? (2) Where exactly do I use the grease? (3) Do you recommend using thread locker on the threads of the bolts?
      Again, thanks in advance.

    • @mitchdoescoffee
      @mitchdoescoffee  3 місяці тому

      @carsokk don't stress too much about the 2 grease rule. Along as you use a food safe lubricant on the seals & moving parts that touches water. For anything that doesn't touch water, you can either use the food safe lubricant or just a typical grease.

    Which size group head did that come with? My premillennial machine's is just too small for me so I'm going to move the unit on and get a new one.

      Post mill are 51mm basket. Definitely a better option. 😎 IMS make some nice & deep baskets also. I can easily get 20g in the basket & extract a solid 40g out.

    What is your opinion about a spacer between the group head and the boiler to reduce/slow heat transfer?

    • @mitchdoescoffee
      @mitchdoescoffee  3 місяці тому

      If you plan on leaving the machine on for hours at a time to continuously make coffees, I would recommend that mod. If you only make 1 or 2 coffees at a time, I wouldn't recommend it at all, as it extends your heat up time. 👍

    Thank you! Some very useful info as today I picked the ERG Brass and Gold model of Europiccola that was made ~25 years ago but had very little use. And I paid USD 195. Was that a good deal? (the thing is just a beauty to look at)

    hi mitch
    i never thought i want to own a express until i found europiccola, i bought one second hand and im in process of planning what to do with it. I think mine is from 84 or 91. I wanted to ask u about 20g basket, i read some opinions online that 20g basket is too big for capabilities of this machine, would u agree? i dont know if i can hold enough water in grouphead to properly extract this much coffee, would love to hear your opinion on that, cheers!
