Just FYI, I live in Navassa, North Carolina. At one time ships sailed from here to Navassa with wood, and returned with guano. So, they named this city after the island.
What an impressive expedition - Great footage; gives a very good sense of the place. Thank you for presenting this to the public. SO few people (except for the Haitian fishermen) are able to see this interesting place.
I was recently at the Lighthouse at Cape Hatteras, N.C. and was telling the park Ranger my story about Navassa Island. When I was working on the NOAA SHIP WHITING in around 1980 we were surveying the Island and anchored off shore for about five days. The Haitian fisherman had traveled around 40 or 45 miles by small wooden boat with only a sail, no motor. Watching with binoculars from our anchorage I was amazed after arriving in the morning there and one staying with the boat all day, the other two were lowering hog tied goats down from a 40 foot cliff down to that small boat, with the sea naturally bobbing the little boat all over the place. I counted around (9) goats lowered, then rowed and sailed away. Then the next day the Coast Guard By Helicopter had dropped off a crew to service and do maintenance on the Lighthouse. Now, remember there is no fresh water and in summer hot and harsh living conditions. The Coast Guard Helicopter broke down and could not return to pick up the crew. So, that was one we rescued the Coast Guard and bought the guys on our ship for food and comfort that night. Then the next day they were picked up by Helicopter and all was well. Great story.
Fantastic drone photography. But what is exactly there at Navassa Island except for the fact that the view is absolutely stunning. Does the island belong to the U.S. or Haiti?. What's the story? And what were you guys doing there?
belongs to United states tho claimed to be stolen from hati I'm not arguing its ownership was an amazing experience to be there and hope to return for the next ham radio dxepedition

when we read Article 8 of the current constitution of the Republic of Haiti, we see La Navase is one of the adjacent islands of the country, there I see an American flag on the island. I'd like to know on what basis the Americans took this island? the Haitian state can't reclaim their territory
Because there's a statue that claims any land discovered by an American citizen that contains bird poop "Guano" will be US territory. So nothing new the US wanting to take everything especially from Haiti.
