Here is Mark 2 playing the GENRE they created of which only they ever played. It was a blend of jazz, classical, blues, psychedelic rock and early rock&roll driven by their own unique hard rhythm. These five were quite simply the greatest group of pure rock musicians ever. It was miracle that they ever ended up together.
I wish i was there... Such a great clip.. I loved every second of it. Jon Lord is doing some crazy shit!!! Possibly one of the most Violent and Powerful versions of Mandrake root. And the Audience was great and you can feel the energy of it too, And Paice wow, What a great amazing drummer!!! Incredible!!!!
That must of blown everyone's mind in that audience, all five of these amazing musicians are pure fucking class here, exciting dangerous mind blowing hard rock which will NEVER be equalled
After watching and listen to this ,I am more than convinced that there is nothing in the current Deep Purple that can equal this force in this dextery. In this period of time (Mark II - 1969 to 1973) this men were Gods.. There won't be any other band in this world able to surpass them ! By far, this Deep Purple has been the best band in the history of rock music
I saw them and LZ within two weeks of each other at the same venue in So. Cali. circa 1969. Shoot me down in flames if you like but, these cats made LZ look and sound like a middle school garage band. Consummate musicians every one of them.

Good God this is simply amazing! Deep Purple are my band first heard them when I was 6 I'm 46 now and still knocked out by this kind of quality footage
I love the bit about 5 mins in where Jon gets someone in the audience to hold down a note whilst he wanders off for a bit. A very intimate and engaging performance from DP. Would love to have been there.
shitt mann the solo started at 2;00 and the video is like.. 14 mints long... thats why i love rock and roll, its all about jamming and having a good time
Another stunning performance of this classic track. It was a poty when they took this song out of their set list and added the improvisation to Space Truckin'.
never into keyboards until i heard deep purple, then again, no other keyboardist will open up the thing and play it from the inside. also look at how unorthadoxly blackmore plays that solo and still has some out of this world sound coming out of it. very few bands can have every single member of it a master of their instrument like this one
did you notice? every time, especially early '70s, Ian Gillan was screaming, Blackmore was challenged...that turned him on, he smiled and seemed having more fun
That is one of the best vintage Mk II vids I have seen. Phenomenal! Definitely of a time and, in its way, quite avant-garde. They are all great, but Ian Paice's drumming...YES!!! I love the bit with the audience member being brought up to key the Hammond. Most excellent!
The reason Paice is the best is that he's like the great home run hitters, he holds the sticks right at the very end just like a hitter holds his bat at the end.
this is some motherfucking ..instrumental.. Wow..! 5 talented rockers.!! my favorite hard rock band of all time.....!! I miss those days....rock on ....
i love the way ian went to town on those bongos. i came here & read ALL the comments; hoping some nerd would describe what lord was doing to that hammond (besides beating the shit outta it); what was he poking around in the guts of the thing in the back?? i'd love to know.. whatever it was that thing would prob be so expensive today no one would do it!! i always heard this off "shades of deep purple". i guess i always liked it; this was transcendental tho.
Of all the versions I've found of MR on the net, this is the best. The best recorded one is still the one on the In Concert album (cut on the 7th of January 1970), but this one comes close- VERY close- for its sheer energy. Now, if you'd known me very well, that is praise(!). And yeah, in case you still feel the urge to ask, I am a hopeless early mk. II Deep Purple fanatic...

yes!!!! thank you brother for this vidio finally something i have not seen yet from early mach 2 beutifully done recording they were one of the 5 best ROCK GROUPS EVER
we will see these musicians again. time (i have found) runs in cycles, and the 60's thing was so high and powerful it had to just burn out thru the 70s 80s etc, cuz its hard to keep burning so long. but now we're at a low point, its black & white, people are waking up and wanting colour and i reckon its about 1963 right now, things are just getting moving once again...

so glad someone had the awareness to video this. Brilliant
Pure madness. I love it!
no doubt they were fantastic on stage
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah Deep Purple!!!!!! \m/
Love this!!!!

The Amazing...Lord....
Watching this, it's hard to believe that in less than a decade Glover & Blackmore would be strumming to the schmaltz of "I Surrender."
the best jon lord!!
Foda
Andrew Vick Oppen põe foda nisso!!!
something else,so good I watched it twice.
I absolutely love Jon is doing to his Hammond poking a stick into the electrics fucking cool!
did you notice? every time, especially early '70s, Ian Gillan was screaming, Blackmore was challenged...that turned him on, he smiled and seemed having more fun
Mandrake Root and Wring That Neck have always been highlights for me for their early live stuff, they absolutely melt brains on those tracks.
Five f...ing gods!!!
Loud and chaotic. Love it!
AWSOME! FANTASTIC BAND! EVER!
Best version ever !
[*] R.I.P. Jon Lord
It's very sad that you passed away.
That is one of the best vintage Mk II vids I have seen. Phenomenal! Definitely of a time and, in its way, quite avant-garde. They are all great, but Ian Paice's drumming...YES!!! I love the bit with the audience member being brought up to key the Hammond. Most excellent!

Bill Fuller Wade Boggs choked up on his bat.
very true, I listen to it often and its always amazing
Who the fuk is the 13 that thumbs down this .this is the God fathers of heavy music.
Probably an anal Hammond ownder that didn't like Jon Lord probing around in the guts with a drum stick :)
Holy shit! Insane!
Never knew that. Ive heard and seen him do that classic jon lord thunder sound but i never knew thats how it was done. thanks man
Ian Paice is God. My favourite drummer.
Pezzo straordinario.
5:00........Jon Lord takes a break by getting someone from audience or a roadie up to hold the keys down. Quality.
It's someone from the audience - roadies don't wear fancy cashmere turtleneck sweaters ... :-)
What a rush..."Yeah, that's me, playing one note with Deep Purple. I'll be in my dressing room, no autographs, please!"
this is some motherfucking ..instrumental.. Wow..! 5 talented rockers.!! my favorite hard rock band of all time.....!! I miss those days....rock on ....
Absolutely amazing!! Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore are doin' some crazy shit on their respective instruments. R.I.P. Jon Lord...
i love the way ian went to town on those bongos. i came here & read ALL the comments; hoping some nerd would describe what lord was doing to that hammond (besides beating the shit outta it); what was he poking around in the guts of the thing in the back?? i'd love to know.. whatever it was that thing would prob be so expensive today no one would do it!! i always heard this off "shades of deep purple". i guess i always liked it; this was transcendental tho.
AWESOME VERSIONE...I LOVE THIS SONG

The video's actually been edited. "Mandrake Root" normally ran about 25-30 minutes on stage in those days.
Very cool! Well, like Lord said "psychedelic sort of ideas".
MUCH more than just a "rock band".
At 5:08, I love how Jon pulls someone from the audience to hold the note while he gets something!
Paice and Bonham are both AMAZING!! also Alice cooper rocks!
great one, tnx for upload!
+Jean Karlo Mendoza Castillo

This is an amazing piece of video.
Verissimo..!!
Amazing!
I lov this song.
no words! wild!
if someone ask to the guy from 04:59 about musical experience? he´s able to say: I played with Deep Purple in 1970 for 10 seconds :D
I feel with you, bro ..
Too bad there weren't more songs recorded on video from this performance.
Making the beast Scream ( the organ) !!!
thats beautiful
I alway wondered how Jon made those sounds 6:10
Old reverb effect were made with springs, it happens that if you shake the box the springs are in, or directly hit the springs, they make that sound.
rare...great!!!!
Déchaîné deep Purple
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
