  • Why pay hundreds of dollars on a decorative mailbox post when you can build one yourself using common tools! In this video I use a miter saw to make my cuts, but all of these cuts can be made with a circular saw or even a box saw!
    If you're into making money with woodworking then this video is for you!

    Thank you so, so much for your demonstration of how to cut a “cap” - perfectly paced and understandable for this newbie who is still making friends with her compound mitre saw. Your step-by-step breakdowns of the actual pieces you make has really helped me to “see” the component parts of the retail items I would like to try to make. 🇨🇦

    Hey love the channel and I'm just starting to try out some of your designs. This one in particular I think you must have started with a 10' 4"x4" because I just bought a 12' one and 78"+28"=106" subtract that from 144" leaves a 38" cutoff which is quite a bit bigger than the cutoff you end up with here that appears to be closer to 14" which is what you would have left over if you started with a 10' board. I just bought a cedar post to make this project and the cost of the extra 2' wasn't insignificant. Just thought you and any others making this project might want to know.

      @danholtbk7008 Рік тому

      If you live in the north country where snow plows raise havoc with mailboxes you would use some of that extra length for the horizontal arm. Make it about a foot longer so the post sets back farther from the shoulder of the road but the mailman can still access the mailbox.

    • @smrtgrip
      @smrtgrip Рік тому +1

      @@danholtbk7008 yes I do and was going to do that as well as add more length to the bottom to bury deeper. The frost line here runs about 36-48” depending on the winter.

I wish this would have been out then. Your 16 degree angle stripe cuts look better than the straight cuts I have on mine. I have been giving thought to adding a (solar controlled) security camera trough the back of the post right above the back of the box. Even thought about drilling a hole in the top of the post and adding a solar sidewalk light. Anyway, Please keep these great videos coming.

    I unfortunately got a standard miter saw when I got one new. No way I could convince the wife to get a new compound version. So - could you do these same cuts without the compound feature, safely?

    If your miter saw is not the radial arm style, is thus easier to do with a skill saw?

    Sir. What if I want all the edges rounded or beveled? A person wants this style but, with smooth edges not square ones.
