- Strange Places is a new documentary series by Aleksandar Petakov that follows his adventures and investigations into various unusual places around the world. Whether it be mysterious regions, abandoned locations or forgotten history, Aleks leaves no stone unturned in his search for strange places.
This episode features Aleks journeying to far southern Louisiana to learn more about the mysterious and nearly forgotten Forts Jackson and Saint Philip along the mighty Mississippi River.

What a fascinating place. I’ve never heard of either fort, and I’ve spent a fair amount of time in south east Louisiana. It’s a shame that they’re virtually lost to history and slowly being reclaimed by nature. Great film!

Thank you for covering the Mississippi River. Now you need to go to the Upper Mississippi from Wood River up to Lacrosse Wis. Small town monsters has become one of life's 5 great mysteries. Who built the pyramids, what happened to the aztecs, who shot jfk, area 51, and STM being at sub 180k.
There is no other channel on UA-cam that puts out better produced, directed and top notch full-length content than STM does.. content if you asked me that should be in movie theaters it's so well documented and produced. Not to mention the amount of content blows anybody and everybody out of the water on YT. how you're not at 10 million subs is beyond me let alone stagnant at 180k. It is absolutely mind boggling to me..

Fascinating video! Absolutely stunning, really! Im from England but find American history very intriguing. My relative on my late fathers side ran away to America and joined a gang in the Wild West called "The Hole in The Wall Gang," and they ran with Billy The Kid! I love your work. ❤
I must be a history nerd too because I found this fascinating.
So interesting, in fact, that I looked up the Battle of New Orleans and found that after the British lost the battle they fired on Fort St. Phillip as they retreated down the river. The Americans, however, had previously reinforced the fort and, expecting an attack by the British, were prepared. The attack, while unsuccessful, distracted Jackson and his men enough to allow the British to float past the fort and to reach their ship.
To me, this explains why the second fort was built across the river, and why it was named Fort Jackson.

These are such historic places and to see them being left to rot is a real shame. Why can't they at least be restored and preserved for future generations ?

We have the same style of fort in England on the river Medway in Kent, very strange and haunted places.

War of 1812, fort york, or Toronto, Canada. Powder bunker explosion killed, maimed many early u.s. marines an British soldiers, during an attack on Canada. Everyone stopped keeping all their powder in one place. Great show! Thanks
I find it interesting that the "tour guide" for the fort ruins corrected himself and referred to the Civil War as "the war" and then later used "The South" and "we" interchangably. Those roots still run deep.

The "correction" you're talking about sounds more like him stuttering a bit (what bad thing would it mean anyway?), and as far as him referring to the south as "we," he lives in the south. When people living in the United States refer to the United States, they routinely do the exact same thing and refer to it as "we," regardless of the context. Everyone does that everywhere. I can be talking about something horrific thing the US has done- "Oh yeah, the Iraq war was terrible, we feigned the threat of WMD's to sway the public into supporting an unjust war in which we killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis." I might say, "we," but it's because I am placed geographically with those whose actions I'm describing, not because I identify with those behind the Iraq war. I would resent anyone who tried to accuse me of that based on my language. I know what you're implying here, and you're doing the same thing to this man who you know nothing about. It's extremely judgemental and presumptuous. Why not just say what you mean?

Oh wow, I'm glad you're doing the Mississippi. My grandpa left home during The Depression and rode the rails. These men were called hobos. He grew up in southern Missouri & knew the woods like the back of his hand. He wasn't superstitious and never mentioned Bigfoot or any other creature. However, one day out of the blue, far, far away from the Mississippi River, he said to me to never camp along the Mississippi because there were "bad" men who lived along it. I have no idea what area exactly. It was just an out of the blue. I wish I could ask him now about it.

Another great series Aleks. If you are looking beyond North America, can I recommend that you visit the Woodbridge area of Suffolk in England. You will find Rendlesham Forest, Sutton Hoo, Orford Ness, Bawdsey Manor and Shingle Street all within a few miles of each other. They all have fascinating histories and more than their fair share of strangeness!

"People really suck" sadly that is very true. Hopefully you can visit Fort St Philip next January, it would be nice to see some video of it or maybe they would allow you to fly a drone down low around the fort. The fema doc I saw said it now floods since the earthen dam was breached.

The little bunkers most likely is where they stored the black powder. They stored it away from the fort, in case it were to ignite, it would be far enough away not to harm the fort.

What you think is bunkers were power magazines. There were cannons between the magazines. There were on both sides of the fort Pryor to the Spanish American War (Edcot Period).
In the uk this would be protected. Do you not do that in the States?

I would disagree as Strange Places as a series encapsulates mysterious regions, forgotten history and abandoned locations, which can go in a lot of directions, so I found it was very fitting. -Aleks

I find the history interesting, but there was nothing strange about either of the forts. Old does not equal strange.
Thanks for checking it out but I disagree. In the case of Fort Saint Philip it's one of the oldest continuously used forts in North America and was basically used up until the 1980's, last used by that "cult" group, as stated in the film. Now both forts are basically being forgotten. My series "Strange Places" covers various aspects of forgotten history, abandoned locations and mysterious regions...that encompasses a lot of things. -Aleks
