  • Leyland Atlantean 1101 restoration episode 007 part 2! After running out of time last episode, I get knocked down by another injury, laryngitis and sick leave BUT still manage to motor through. I try welding, get the rear box out AND pressure wash some more seats! This one has it all.

I never bother inverting the can to clear the tube. I just wipe the nozzle of any paint with a rag slightly dampened with wax and grease remover.
Can't wait to see the exterior work and your welding experience.

Stick out length is an important factor in flux core welding, the optimum distance for gas less is around 5/8 - 3/4 of an inch (16-19mm) from the arc to the contact tip. Stick out length changes the volt/amp balance. The more the wire protrudes from the contact tip the more heating of the wire occurs, which then leads to the wire melting without correct fusion to the parent metal and excessive spatter. Try to keep your drag angle to just off of vertical, around 5 - 10 degrees. Once you get a feel for that start playing with feed rate/voltage till you get the result you want.

I am not a pro welder by any stretch but i find if you use good quality wire and not cheap wire it helps a lot. Just keep practicing with it and it gets better.

Splendid work so far, I have tried to get a Leyland Titan over here, I knew there were some many years ago (B15) .. off to Victoria to try and barn hunt them.

@@stevestufff he means the modern looking late 70s to 80s rear engine ex London Transport known as the Ts, not the old front engine half cab style.
Weren't the ones used for city sightseeing in Melbourne converted to open top? Hopefully not. They would be your best bet.

One thing I don’t understand Steve, is you keep things where people scratch stuff and patina, but when it comes to the original fitting blind mechanism you take it out. I would have freed up and lubed the mechanism, replaced the torn blind and refitted it. You would still have 007 and in the future if you sell the bus on at least the new owner wouldn’t have to find one. Why did you do it?

hi mate- the rolls needed for that complete mechanism are impossible to find, so to fix it and use it in OG condition will be a big job. Also the levers that operate it were rusted and broken. I will free it up, but won't put it back in. I also tried to get the light plate to work, and it too is no good. So for me and the use I have planned, it was unnecessary use of my limited time. I will get the mech working, and keep it in the shed like I do with most things that I don't need :)

Take care of yourself, fella. Take some time off the heavy lifting if you have to, don't force yourself for our sake.

yes I will- most of the heavy stuff is done for now. Those seat frames and cushions were the worst!
