In the first of what will hopefully be a series of meals with friends and fellow food lovers, I catch up with my friend, Dr Anand Shenoy, over a delicious Saraswat meal, with some vegetarian dishes that took him back to his childhood memories. We also savour forgotten seafood dishes from an erstwhile restaurant, Unicorn that was hugely popular in its days. All this, made possible by restaurateur Pratiksha Nayak at her LightHouse restaurant, Bengaluru, with the vegetarian dishes contributed by her mother, Mrs. Parvathi Nayak. This was an interesting, leisurely afternoon, of great food no doubt, but also one that offered a peek into the GSB culture and one of Bengaluru’s now sadly lost culinary gems, Unicorn

Teppal is not for taste or something. Some fish, jackfruit seeds causes severe bloating in some people. To tone down teppal used

Becoming big fan of Dr.Shenoy for all his passion, modesty and calming voice!
18:55 coming from cardiologist means a lot for us. Thank you doctor for sharing great wisdom ignored by Indians. Olive oil is nothing but a marketing gimmick in India to ape West.
Finally being a gsb ...we have many vegetarians in us....there are lot of vegetarian dishes
Wow! Such a wonderful Amchigele feast!
Makka thonda uddha aile!
Aye javan korcha..
@@prathikshanayak8148 definitely once I come to Bengaluru
THUKKA THONDA UDDHA AILE
Kripal, Bengaluru also gets a lot of farmed freshwater fish….the Karnataka govt promotes pisciculture , for example Yelahanka is known for farmed catfish and Catla …Tumkur is famous for farmed Tilapia and Basa , Mysore for Cauvery Trout , Channapatna for farmed shrimp etc….it’s not just seafood . Farmed and river fish is also popular
True, am not a big fan of farmed fish though.
Lol.. there's a hell lot of difference between Sea food and farmed fishes😂 I think south Karnataka people hv never tasted our coastal proper fresh sea food.
I respect your passion for farmed fish but never mention farmed fish to a person from Mangalore,/Udupi..... We can't tolerate it
Sir Dr shenoy is a person we have to look upto , his humility inspires
Thank you sir
Whenever I am bored and want to watch something on UA-cam , I just search your vlogs ..I love how you describe the food. Lot to learn😊
You can feel the love for food in Kripal Amanna sir's eyes and that's why we are watching Food Lovers TV everyday for more than 3 years. Warning - Food is addictive after watching Kripal Amanna sir 👍
Happy eating, Abhisek! 😋
Proud to be amchigele. Our ancestors have left us lots of good things which we should be proud of 🙌
Absolutely!
What on earth is this... my father saw this is now planning a Bengaluru trip from pune.... amazing 👏
😃 do convey my ‘happy eating’ to your father, Vinay.
Sir, from this episode I want to call you (Our Kripal sir)as"Pan Indian food vlogger "because you have so..many subscribers from all corners of the world 🌎, sir, so you deserve this honour
🙏🙏🙂
Preeteksha's mother is just like my mother, although she does not eat non-veg, but she used to cook non-veg for the rest of the family and it used to be perfect, salt, spice, etc, now she has become old, so she does not cook
This is such a lovely message, plz do visit the light house wth ur amma as well.
Kripal here you have missed one of great podi is pagila podi, an amchigele will die and pay any amount to get that vegitable to prepare rava fry of Pagila podi.
Thanks you showcasing our community. Those podis are prepared during chauthi/Ganesh festival.
Sir, good morning, umm...sir, what a mouthwatering vegetarian vlog, this episode gives extra enjoyment to us(especially pure vegetarians like me it gives much more happy)🤗🤗👌👌😋
This restaurant an interesting discovery , as most of the dishes barring crab chilli, chicken 65 & fish 93 are made by us. I was particularly impressed by tepla ambat which we regularly make, as texture and colour was awesome. Vaingan bajji ( gulla or big purple) is also very regularly made. Actually GSB food variety in vegetarian is far higher then non vegetarian! Thanks kripal for this vlog- must visit on our next visit to Bangalore.
The Greatest thing on Kripal Sir he loves yo revive the old culinary traditional dishes thus giving the entrepreneur a thrust and what more his facial express is reflected on the dish he taste every where.Truly Bringing Back the By Gone era in Traditional dishes .Thats why Kripal Sir vlogs appreciated round the continent. 🙏
One more fantastic episode from Kripal! This is our cuisine wherein we prepare these phodis and bajjis in rainy season! Thank you for introducing it to everyone!
Great job Prathiksha and Parvati maayi! Way to go!
Enjoyed every bit of it👌👌👍
Thank u so much roopa !

Vintage Kripal in all modesty. Ms Nayak's comment on NRI's reasons for visiting this restaurant gave me goosebumps. 🙂🙂🙂
When i saw nuggekai yesterday i knew it was some Konkani dish of gsb
There's Mark Weins and then there's Kripal Amanna - the two best food vloggers in the World
I AM A G.S.B.

I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED THAT THE TRADITIONAL G.S.B. VEGETARIAN DISHES WERE SERVED.
THANK YOU DEAR KRIPAL,
HAPPY EATING ESPECIALLY TO G.S.B. KONKANI'S.
♥️👍😊
YOU GUYS ARE FRAUD … DISCRIMINATION IS IN YOUR BLOOD..
I am also gsb
Awesome, last time when I was in Goa, our can driver mentioned the breadfruit dish that you showed in this video. Thanks for sharing 👏👏👏
great food VIDEO with greAT INFO.
Mind blowing vlog, you can write biography of Mattu Gulla because I belong to that region, seen that how they grow it with so much care and how they offer the first yield to Udupi Sri Krishna Matt.
Dr Anand Shenoy, cardiologist @manipal hospital old airport road. Didn't expect to see him in this video .Nice to see him.
Wow felt nice watching all my gsb food being a vegetarian my favourite is phodis and yes the drumstick phodi which we call maskasangi phodi 😊nothing like that...and as Dr Shenoy mentioned we use thepal for vegetarian dishes too we call tea aambat 👍what a nostalgic moment it was to watch this vedio
Kripal sir is one of the genuine & articulate food vloggers without any show offs like other youtubers.
Loved the doctors input, would love to see him in more episodes
I think the lady is very smart...when kripa asked, she said fish made in morning..when he said it will taste better later, she says it was made last night...
Not good..
Do visit the light house sir. 😊 Thank you..
In kadapa(AP) we eat that brinjal bajji with ragi mudde..

Thank you Kripal Amanna for showcasing GSB Cuisine. Being away from India for decades brings back memory, how unique the GSB Culinary skills are.
Definitely a visit to The Lighthouse will be planned next trip to Bangaluru !
We will be happy to host u at the light house.
Sir, Usually Goan dish means more of Catholic dishes in Goa but it's when we travel towards Mangalore, Kasergode, or Karwar, or anywhere in Kerala, only then do we get to see these GSB cuisines, not just in Bangalore, but in Goa too it's missing, when I went to Goa I couldn't find any.
Sir, I would like to see these catholic and GSB videos of Goa and Coastal Karnataka too, like a comparison video or something of Coastal Karnataka, Kasargode, and how that's different from their Goan counterparts/brothers who didn't migrate during the Portuguese invasion in your channel.
CATHOLICS ARE A MINORITY IN GOA.. DONT TALK NONSENSE.
Kripal amazing presentation great regional food culture revelations amazing thank you Happy Eating :-)
Everything looks so delicious 😋 Thank you for sharing sir 🙂
Still vividly remember the episode on Lighthouse during the lockdown years - there was certain angst in the owner's tone back then when restaurants were going thru what was unquestionably the oughest time for restaurant business, but great to see Lighthouse bounce back and thriving! Kripal - The Good Samaritan saving restaurants one at a time!
Thank you so much sir! Yes ,it was a tough phase for a lot of restauranteurs and the good Samaritan changed it for us. I cant thank kripal enough for the support..
@@prathikshanayak8148 Nice to see your comment. Next time I’m in Bangalore, definitely making the trip to the Lighthouse!

she is always on her feet, moving from table to table attending to customers…. they have a wide choice of dishes …. the well ventilated but cosy layout is appropriate in these times when you are queasy to enter confined scapes.
Hope the veg fares becomes a regular feature in the menu
Hi kripal sir it always happy to watch the way you explains and eat the food.lots of love to you 🤗🤗
Filled with love and flavours 👍❤️🙏... GSB food 👍.. Dr. Shenoy was relishing his food and at the same time gave us such useful information 👍👍👍... Such a down to earth person ❤️... Hi Kripal Amanna, went to this restaurant after watching your vlog and the food was very very delicious 👌👌😋😋. Special mention to the goli soda. Missed ragi manni because it was not available. All the credit goes to the very active Prathiksha mam.
Really enjoyed the way u had the seafood etc..👍
Loved to see this Vlog, being an amchigele myself could definitely correlate to the dishes served there. 🤩❤️❤️ Thank you @KripalAmanna for sharing this experience. Also, proud of Pratiksha, for doing such a wonderful work 👏

The light house 🏠 all food was very delicious 😋
Thank you so much.
In Mumbai atleast in old chitpavan households, we make this Baigan Bharta with imli jaggery (chinch Gul) without coconut oil with refined groundnut oil. There is also version made with curd almost like a raita.
Karnataka Chitvavans make the one with curd, where vangi is burnt in fire
I used to think amchigelle was more like GSB phenomenon and not language. Because in Mumbai Marathi speaking GSBs also seem to say this. And I used to think Nayak to be Tulu speaking. (Desai of course will be Konkani) . So the restaurant seems to have heritage of both Tulu and Konkani speaking coastal Karnataka .
Actually Nayak and Desai, both surnames are there among other communities as well.
Beautiful Vlog Sir
I like gsb cuisine.never missed GSB weddings in Mangalore just to eat and relish their food.
Lovely food. I wish to visit.
Pl be our guest sir !

Amazing food
Wel....l u have been reviewing the Bangalore eateries for years and we as travellers want to cover all the places in the limited days we are there .....but ofcourse we can't 😄....great video as always n particularly this one had a medical approval n thus excuse for us foodies to eat bindaas 😅
So nice to listen to Konkani and also see the dishes that i have grown up eating..... proud GSB :)I enjoyed them virtually..i have never heard any one describe crab sukka and experience of eating it as Kripal did. Kripal if you reading ..are the words that you utter instantaneous or are scripted?
My shows are not scripted. I speak for the food as it speaks to me.
Another master piece...thanks to doc for replacing olive oil with coconut oil
Kripalji please come to Kozhikode (Calicut)for food vloging

Some 25-30 years back I used to visit fish eatery called Fish Land in Gandhinagar just behind erstwhile Tribhuvan talkies run by Mr. Desai. Are you by any chance related to him? Their Uttara Kannada dishes like teppala ambat, Pomfret or king fish fries were great. Definitely will make it a point to visit your restaurant soon.
Hello ! Yes I am the daughter inlaw of Mr.desai . Will be happy to serve u at the light house.
