- Join us on an exciting culinary journey as we explore the rich heritage of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) community! Originally from Kashmir, the GSBs migrated to North Karnataka, bringing along their unique traditions and flavourful cuisine. Known for their love of seafood and aromatic spices, GSB cuisine is a delightful blend of coastal and Konkani influences that you won't want to miss. ✨
In this episode of Khaane Mein Kya Hai, we visit Maasli in Worli, Mumbai's only restaurant serving authentic Saraswat and GSB seafood. Award-winning and beloved by locals, Maasli is the place to be for a true taste of GSB culinary magic. From crispy fried delights to hearty curries, every dish here tells a story of tradition and taste. 😋
Kunal Vijayakar dives into a feast featuring some of Maasli's best offerings! He starts with the crispy Prawns Fry and moves on to the irresistible Crab Lollipops. The Konkani Ghee Roast Mutton leaves him speechless, while the Jumbo Crab GSB Style Sukkhe is a true showstopper. And let's not forget the flavourful GSB Tirfal Fish Curry that brings the taste of the coast right to your plate. 🤤
This episode is a food lover's dream come true! Kunal's enthusiasm and genuine love for GSB cuisine make this a must-watch. Each bite is filled with flavours that will transport you to the heart of the Konkani coast. Trust us, you don't want to miss out on this gastronomic adventure! 😋🍤🦀

GSB migration started from Saraswati river (that gave the name Saraswat), to Kannauj, to Gauda kingdom (areas of modern Bihar and Bengal) adding the name Gaud, then finally settling in Goa. During Portuguese invasions they migrated to Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala. They were businessmen, and also administrators in Maratha Empire - Satara, Kolhapur, some in Pune and most in Gwalior. GSB of Shaiva and Smartha tradition are non-vegetarians but those following Vaishnavism are vegetarians (like most other Brahmins). As a GSB, its good to see GSB food on your channel.
wow. good to know about Saraswat History. I am from Udupi and ive met a lot of Saraswat Brahmins form Gokarna which is kind of our Kashi. I only knew that they relate to the Shankaracharya Mutt / Shardha Mutt but did not know any other details about them till now. Thanks for sharing
I am a Gsb myself but didn't know what Gaud meant.
Thank you for your comment
Your explanation is correct but just to add to your text, even the people following Vaishnavism are non-vegetarian. My family follows Vaishnavism and we have always been on hardcore seafood diet. 🙏🏻
@@walkclip yes, i thought so. But didn't know if it was a traditional non vegetarian diet or just a modern independent choice.
Caste = belt on dog 🐕
Thanks u kunal for.... This episode....!!
. You just help and inform all Maharashtrians .. Not only about historical facts behind eating habits of various groups and communities in maharshtra but also it's a pleasure to watch you " Relish " The food !!
My family gona visit it soon!!
Thank u so much!!
And congrats to businessmen from GSB community for continuing the food legacy in Mumbai ❤❤❤❤!!
GSB’s majorly moved to Goa, became natives & left when the Portuguese started forcibly converting my ancestors…. To Kerala (Kasargod) and Karnataka (Mangalore)
Backside politician mahadev jankar is sitting and enjoying food😊
Who gives a F***
@@DMangalorean calm down dude 😂😂 u must b frm gen z 😂😂😂😂
Sir i myself am a Gsb and searching for authentic food from so long in Mumbai thanks for this video will surely visit this place
For veg authentic gsb food you can visit A ramanayak 's Krishna Udupi boarding house near matunga central railway station it's very famous and you won't be disappointed just there is rush...food served on banana leaves the owner himself is a gsb...Satish nayak
@@deepamallyajadhav6086 yes I have been there dear the food is really nice place but most of the joints in matunga are veg was looking for non veg
We have visited this restaurant and created a vlog also, Mr Nayak is a great host!
Apart from GSB , also Bengal (part of Gaur) & Maithili Bramhin also takes fish in their regular diet.
Takes?? Eat
Maasli is definitely the flag bearer of GSB food in Mumbai. Another noteworthy mention for GSB food has to be a restaurant named "Fish Curry Rice" which is present in Thane and Dadar.
You are the best ever host food industry could have!! #khane mein kya hai
❤️
Sir, aapko khate hue dekhna bahut achha lagta hai, aap jis passion se khate ho wo. Kabhi Mai bhi aise hi khata tha but due to stomach issues now a days I am on moong dal😅but seriously I am enjoying while you are eating
Same here bro 😊😊
That platter presented on the table will make any sea food lover very happy 😎😎👍👍
Your next stop should be a CKP Restaurant.... there is one in Parle East. It's name is Nav Kayastha Pangat. I am sure your viewers will enjoy its uniqueness. Just as they would have enjoyed this episode on GSB Cuisine.
Our favourite restaurant. We are GSB from Goa. We simply love ❤️ the food here
Rice + Fish Curry = Instant Dopamine! 😀
Nice video, mouth watering, we gsbs are pure matsyahari. My bucket list
Real story. Could not watch it past 8 mins the first time, I was salivating and in hunger pangs at the same time. I was embarrassing myself to others who might have been watching me. Thanks Kunal and Maasli for this sweet feeling of discomfort. 👍
Originally Sarswat Brahmin Caste was residents of Kashmir then migrated to Sindh & Punjab then Bengal & from Bengal they came to Konkan & Goa.. Even in Kutch region you find huge numbers of Sarswats. They are the bhattji priest of Lohana, Arora & Bhanushali community.
I have been watching you from early 2010s and I never get bored
Thanks to your Sir .I am Discovering some fabulous Indian Food with your wonderful videos.
Respects from Algeria .
I've liked the video even before watching it, Im that confident when Kunal bhai is in the video
I am a strict vegetarian but still watch your episodes with non vegetarian dishes - just to watch you relishing the food !! you do a lot of justice to the food. That is real respect for the person who cooked the food. Bless the hands that feed.
Same here..
I love Masali. Discovered it last year and want to keep going back to it. Super tasty, correctly spiced dishes. The food tastes like home cooked and has the right flavours. It’s easy on the pocket and very authentic.
Mast ekdam. As usual vijay sir rocked this episode too 😊😊. I think that khube wade tasted like heaven.
The way you eat the food, it's mouth watering. One of the best food shows ever
Glad you enjoy it!
Your expressions Kunal were telling us how much you enjoyed, being seafood. And the mess you made, again with expressions, is a total sign of delicious food and how it is to be eaten. Being fish lover, it was on your face. This looked more like Mangalorean GSB, there is difference in Karwari and Goye (Goa). Very good one and prompting to visit.
Proud GSB here...❤childhood memories of khubbe n masali revisited.. 🙂
beautiful. added this place to my next Mumbai trip bucket list. love the episode, especially the crab and the mutton.
We are gsb who are very passionate about Seafood. Few of our relatives who visited this place had given negative reviews about this restaurant hence i have avoided this place so far. But after this review it looks like i have to give it try.
It was mouth watering . Yummy .
Hi Kunal, please try to cover CKP cuisine in some of your future episodes !! Worth exploring it.
sure
Just awesome and thank you Kunal bhau for letting me know about this place. Will surely visit & I do try to visit all the places in Mumbai you have been to. Keep going and eating. All the best !!!!!

Finally you visited Maasalli...Their food is fabulous
❤️
Thanks Kunal for this episode. Definitely my next visit is to this restaurant. I am a big seafood lover.
Delicious food 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
U described my taste in intro , fish less spicy with mild tangy 😋🦈🤩
Mangalore Catholic here with many GSB friends. They love their food and rightly so, it is delicious.
Galti Kiya 12 baje raat ko dekh raha hun, and I don't know how to douse this fire in my belly just by ur description of food. Ur almost like Attenborough describing food. ❤❤❤❤❤
Very delicious food
Must visit one day.
Nice episode; but error in graphics at 1:24. Rajapur lies to the North of Goa, not South. Maybe you wanted to show Mangalore in the South.
Seafood delicacies of GSB amazing
Liked the show very much. One also should taste gsb vegetable preparation also
Really nice to see this episode Kunal....Keep doing such episodes.....
Lovely. Missed the Bangda Curry.
Loved this episode just for Kunal Sir enjoying a meal after such a long time. Anything with coconut my fav 🫣 thanks for recommending Masali, Kunal Sir ❤️ good good and delicious spread 😋
Team Khaane Mein kya hai 🫶❤️
There is another foodie unlike you Kripal Ammana( Food lovers TV). you must make an episode with him.
As a GSB, this was fun to watch :) mast layka jalle
Proud of being and Indian and Gaud Saraswat Bramhan. 🙏🇮🇳🙏
1:12 wrong fact , they arent the only Brahmin community which eat fish , Bengali Brahmins and Maithili Brahmins also do eat fish too.
In South too. But not all brahmins. Mostly vishu worshippers Brahmin won't take non veg at all. All other worshippers take non vegetarian.
Kashmiri & Odia Brahmins too eat nonveg
Astaghfarul Krishna
Love this food anna.. Tried in Bangalore...

The typical GSB dish of Anasa Phanasachi bhaji and Sasav is not seen in any restaurant.
I am hungry ❤
Kunal Sir you are a aamchi mumbai food guide.
हा एपिसोड मराठीत केला असता तर, अजून छान झाला असता. ❤
@Kunal I guess the entire food served was liked by you, after a long time it has shown on your face. Like u said Ekdum gharguti 😊
Khubya vadey is every saraswats(GSB) favourite
कुणाल खूप खूप छान.. खाबू कुणाल like to u again and again while eating
Also more authentic GSB dishes there is resturant called Maharaja in Manglore. I have seen thier blog.. may be you should visit them too
What’s the background music …sitar. … pls give the credit
Wherever he visits restaurants the food is delicious
Great guy.
Love all your food episodes but just 1 suggestion, please maje geberous use of the other hand or use a spoon while digging into other food rather than using the same hand with which you are eating
Same suggestion given couple of times...Reason why I stopped watching....
Music!❤❤❤
Very Good and Nice video
sir what precautions you take to tackle cholesterol effect,
We will come and eatalong😅
Konkani Brahmin make really tasty non veg items 😋 Vada-kombda is one of their delicacy ❤

We have many more brahmin community eating fish apart from Saraswat, they are one among many of us.
Vijay sir. I being a marathi please speak your heart if possible when eating a malvani saying a Sawant from Satara 😅
❤❤❤
Where's the sitar BGM from?
This food is best to see and eat dishes , goat and chiken
Kunal you are killing it ...hope to see you hanging around kala ghoda with your best pal Cyrus 😅😅😅
❤❤
Incorrect information...they are only the only Brahmins to eat fish/non veg. Maithil and Bengali Brahmins eat non veg
Odia & Kashmiri Brahmins too
KDGB Community also eats Fish and meat. KUDAL DESHKAR GAUD 'BRAHMANs'
Location???
You forgot to mention Address of Restaurant
Please display adders of hotel.
Is there a restaurant in Mumbai that serves authentic Pathare Prabhu cuisine. If not, please you can introduce and promote .
One more delicacy which surely this resturant should add is the kane fish.. very rarely u get in mumbai.. and is very prominent in GSB cuisine..also in mangloreean.. mudushya it is called here
Yes , mudadusha is called as nagli in Karwar and Mangalore
❤❤❤❤
Great that Kunal knew more about lineage of GSBs than the owners. Food is always not a business the least thing you can do is try explaining it properly else visit native. All the very best
Cover CKP food also
Nice authentic gsb cousins. Get only limited places.
You should share the menu
Please do the episode on Nagpuri mutton :)
BGM credits plz 😊
Also mention about cost and value for money ...
