I hate working on small engines. I usually just send it in to the repair shop. Your video saved me being without a mower for two weeks and at least a hundred bucks. I had tried everything my limited knowledge allowed for--new, clean fuel and starter fluid to get it to crank. It never would have occurred to me to remove and clean the bowl. I did that, and just like in your video it cranked right up. Thank you so much.
I know it's old video but I have to thank you for this. never even realized my cub had a float bowl and I went most of the summer having to use my weedeater on the smaller areas that I'd normally use a push mower. literally a 10 min fix and my mower is running perfectly again.
Woohoo! Thank you, thank you! Was ready to go buy a lawnmower. Mine surged and then shut off. Ran fine last week. Decided to try this. Drained gas. Cleaned bowl. All kinds of gunk. Prayed all the rest of pieces were ok. Started. Ran. Mowed. I'm 64 lady. If I can do it, you can!
When I undid the bowl screw it immediately started dripping muddy looking gas. Sure enough, the bowl was filled with rust. I sprayed it out a couple times and scrubbed it with a tooth brush until the spray ran clean. Put it back together and it fired right up and stayed running. Thanks!
I know it's an old video but I just bought a Cub Cadet SC100 today for 15 dollars. I usually mess around with Briggs and figured to try something else. The hoses on the carburetor are off. They gave me a carburetor that's loose so I know someone tried to fix it. I plan to reattach the hoses and check to see if the control cable pulls the brake all the way off. Any other suggestions? I guess the spark plug.
Thanks for this video. My mower would start and die immediately. Took the float bowl off and it had debris in it. Didn't know a thing about what and where the float boat was until I watched this video! Cleaned it out and bingo! started and kept running. Thank YOU!
If I don’t fill the tank fully after each mowing, water will condense in the tank. I was always draining water out until I started filled tank to the brim after each use.
I wish I could help with another video but I have no Cub Cadets to fix. It sounds like you may be overheating. Make sure ALL of the fins around the cylinder are clear of debris and all shrouds are in place.
On my sc300 went through everything then I notice how the plug wire was installed. Well after inspection I pulled the coil off and ordered a new one. Now I have spark all the time
You can also use 99% isopropyl alcohol. drain the gas tank first if you didn't already drain it for storage, put tank hose back on then pour a 1/4 bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol in the tank. She'll crank right over in a few seconds then fill her up with new Gas. No Float bowl carb work needed.
Not faye's account. He was smart not to take off the carb, you definitely should take off the shroud. I tried to remove it with the shroud in place and that small plastic piece on the top (which should be metal) is very fragile due to a poor mold design, so it breaks easier than you would think. The only way to get it out is to pull the carburetor's flap out and then removing that plastic piece while still attached. I would not advise it, but I did the reverse of that to get it back together. G-man
Thanks for the video. My cub cadet sc 300hw will start but will die immediately. I drained the gas and did everything that you did but it still doing it. Any suggestions?
Sounds like the carb needs a complete disassembly and cleaning or replacement. Also check to see if the choke is functioning properly. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Have a 700 wire is loose or off the electric start doesnt charge . Dont need the electric start as it is running one pull everytime change plug every year
I would check the basics first. Check the gap and clean the spark plug or replace. Make sure your fuel is fresh and less than 30 days old. Make sure your fuel cap vents. Make sure your fuel lines are good and not cracked. If the problem persists, the carburetor may need cleaning.
Its your auto choke. I was really hoping this video would show how to unhook it and reinstall it but all you could see was his arm. But without a shadow of a doubt your auto choke is the first place to look. Working on the same mower now myself
i had the same problem on my cub cadet SC 500 z push mower what i did is 1. drained gas from tank 2. removed the air filter compartment then used carburetor parts cleaner to see that the air filter and gas flow to carburetor is not clogged. 3. Drained the last gas in flow bowl then dried it out. 4. put it all back together add gas and make your own custom hole on the gas cap for a much better vacuum chamber.
I have a sc 500 eq. Same problems. Got the float bowl off and cleaned up, fresh fuel, and still have nothing. I then tried starter fluid and it rolls over and runs for 3-5 seconds then shuts back off. Any suggestions?
Assuming you are using NEW gas (less than 30 days old), it sounds like fuel starvation or the idle circuit is blocked. Check for fuel flow into the carb. Removing the bowl nut will tell if there is fuel in the carb. Check for blockages in the jet and all holes in the sides of the emulsion tube. Spray carb cleaner through all ports and holes in the carb. If that does not fix it then it may be time for a new carb.

I love to work on small engines I'm 68 years old and remember my dad hated to work on them as well lol I saved him a lot of money over the years.

FANTASTIC! Worked like a dream. Engine started right up and is running stronger than ever!
Glad to help.

THANK YOU!! After taking off the float bowl and cleaning it out, my mower is running great again.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for your help. Got me back up and running.
Glad to help

My cub cadet sc500 push mower stalls out after 10 minutes of use. What do you recommend? Would be great full to watch a video on this matter. Thanks

Thanks for the video i did the same maintenance and boom. Fired right up!

Question where is the Idle screw on these mowers
Thanks for the video. My cub cadet sc 300hw will start but will die immediately. I drained the gas and did everything that you did but it still doing it. Any suggestions?

Does it make a difference that you left the gasket off?
Thank you for this vid. Got the water out of my fuel system and now my mower runs great!

I have this EXACT mower, the problem with mine is that it will ONLY start if I spray starting fluid.

Clean the primer line with carb spray.

Working on the same mower now myself
Work like new, thanks!!!!
You're welcome!
I have this exact mower. It runs but won't shut off.???
The ground wire under the shroud is probably disconnected.
i had the same problem on my cub cadet SC 500 z push mower what i did is
1. drained gas from tank
2. removed the air filter compartment then used carburetor parts cleaner to see
that the air filter and gas flow to carburetor is not clogged.
3. Drained the last gas in flow bowl then dried it out.
4. put it all back together add gas and make your own custom hole on the gas cap
for a much better vacuum chamber.
I’ll never buy another cub cadet. Can’t go two mowing seasons without a problem
Cub cadet engines are good motors I have had mine for 8 years with no problem at all. Two or three pulls is all it takes to get it going.
I have a sc 500 eq. Same problems. Got the float bowl off and cleaned up, fresh fuel, and still have nothing. I then tried starter fluid and it rolls over and runs for 3-5 seconds then shuts back off. Any suggestions?
I have the same exact problem
It sounds like a fuel delivery problem in the carb. Look for carb disassembly vids for your model. Sounds like plugged jet and emulsion tube.
This worked!
Glad it helped!
How I wish you were my neighbor 🙏
I bought a cub cadet 3 years ago and maybe got 6 cuts in . Just got it back from the shop and won’t start again . Worst piece of crap mower ever
Mine will start but when running it sounds like it’s gonna die. Always cutting out. Anybody have any ideas?
all that work just to change out the gas?
You have to make sure the water and contaminants are out of the carburetor.
I cleaned everything out, now it starts but immediately dies.

Great job👍 another victim of old ethanol fuel...
I'm sorry but that makes zero sense they've been putting ethanol in fuel for decades.
Top job, thanks for the info
Not a 4 wheel drive.
Will start and run a seconds then stop, fresh gas in pulling float bowl
I did this but mine still won't start
If spark and compression are good, it might be time for a carb rebuild or replacement.
@@veteranssmallenginerepair5934 Thanks!
