March 28, 2008 - This Is a Test - Emergency Alert System

- Now back on UA-cam!
I got my parents permission to borrow a VHS tape. It was recorded using a cheep-o Sylvania VHS/DVD Combo (I don't think they're using it anymore due to inferior quality). I played it back using my Panasonic PV-9450 Omnivision, which plays back much better than that cheep-o Sylvania. The sound wouldn't be so unstable. Here, I used a low resolution Dazzle DVC-80 video capture from the tape. I would use the line-in to record the audio since I always get better results that way.
Notice that both test contain a "This is a test" announcement followed by something from a radio broadcast (maybe WATB FM) with a weather report followed by Billy Joel singing "Moving Out". Maybe both tests had the same recording but the second time was muffled.
These days, whenever our cable system does a test, it would be red screen only without text.
Brace yourself! This could scare the [your word here] out of ya! - Розваги
idk why but the "this is a coordinated mon--cOoRdinated monthly test" part killed me lmao
This would have scared the hell out of me, jumping out of nowhere like that.
Emergency Alert System System.
ʷʰᵃ ʷʰʸ ⁱˢ ᵗʰᵉʳᵉ ᵗʷᵒ ˢʸˢᵗᵉᵐˢ
Also I never knew Jerry Seinfeld was actually an EAS message.
This is a Coordinated C O O R D I N A T E D test of the emergency alert system
whyistheretwosystems?
you had ONE JOB but failed lol XD
If I randomly decided to turn on the TV and saw this screen playing billy joel I would literally shit myself 💀
Also both EAS tests had perfect timing 😂
2:34 please welcome Eas System!
"A broadcast station or cable system has issued a Required Monthly Test for Westchester NY, Orange NY, Putnam NY, and Rockland NY beginning at 12:26 am on March 29 and ending at 12:41 am (009191)"
KD: Let's write a book... Tomorrow-
EAS: Let's not!
I just drove through the Hudson Valley last week en route to Lake Champlain, and couldn't help but think of this
This is a test of the Billy Joel emergency broadcast system
I thought the first part of the video sounded bad.
I wonder why it sounded that distorted
The second part is more muffled than the first one
This cable system is conducting a required test of the emergency alert system system.
RAS Syndrome! XD
This is the emergency alert system. Now with music!!!
Jerry "EAS" Seinfeld.
I can imagine the EAS tones being played to the Seinfeld song
That is one weird EAS test, somebody screwed up, but at least it has Billy Joel. The first one was nice and clear, but even though the second one was muffled, I can still make it out. They're both the same message.
2:34
"Please welcome, Mr. Jerry Seinfield"
EAS: "Alright, say less!"
This looks like its in the 90's... But it isn't..
first launched in '97
It low key kind of does look like the 90s
Singer: Let's write a book tomorrow. - EAS: No! I gotta do my freakin' required monthly test! - The NBC Peacock: Aw, crap! - Conan O' Brian: Let's bring out Jerry Seinfield. - EAS: I wanna do my test again, so shut up before I tie you up in a bed!
2:33 "please welcome Mr. Jerry Seinfeld."
Eas: please welcome no one!
THIS CABLE SYSTEM
IS CONDUCTING A
REQUIRED TEST OF
THE EAS SYSTEM.
Emergency Alert System System.
“Tomorrow”
EAS: *there is no tomorrow.*
sounds like the person announcing the message is having a little too much fun
Actually I looked it up, it seems like the radio feed came from WHUD, not WATB. No such station exists in that area.
According to Wikipedia, Mike Geary--the man mentioned in the weather forecast--was a former on-air personality for the station.
This just jumps up, it would scare the shit out of me if I didnt see it coming
This kinda looks like it's straight out of the early 80s.... and me being a huge fan of retro stuff, i fucking love it
1:35 This Is WHUD 100.7 FM in Peekskill, NY.
Thank you EAS CEC I live in the Hudson Valley!
I love the jingle after the test message
@@rockyhollows Me too
Let’s riiiiiiide, tomo- (SAME HEADER and attention tone)
@WishesNetwork
Yep. The "End of Message" tones weren't broadcasted.
The station is 100.7 WHUD-FM
Man My Scary Childhood Sounds This And The Fire Alarm In School Creep Me Out.
2:35 I’m guessing the cable providers hated Jerry Seinfeld so much they activated the EAS.
Today: (Billy Joel) Tommorow.
*Travels to tommorow*
Tommorow: EAS TEST
0:07 I hate this music
EAS plays
better
@Weekblues Billy Joel is a jam 😄
@ThisGuyFrritz This is because the radio station that the audio came from is the PEP (Primary Entry Point) station for the EAS in your area. All local EAS messages are routed through that particular radio station.
I came here for the new boards of Canada song.. is this it?
this cable system is conducting a required test of the eas system.
I think I can see that the two tests are different only by the aspect ratios of the pre-test shows. I realized that the live performance at the beginning was in a 4:3 AR, and Conan O'Brien and Jerry Seinfeld's entrances were in a 16:9-esque AR. But were they two different tapings of different days? I've never heard of the EAS interrupting the same network more than once with the EXACT same procession of material.
"This cable system is conducting a test of the EAS system." Redundant much? The Emergency Alert System System.
Kris Starring This cable system is conducting a test of the EA system.
EA system? Sorry, you need to pay an additional $30 to have a ticker scroll with your broadcast.
@Pajama Network Archive
Even worse: E Alert S.
Did anyone else notice how the visual message said "EAS System"?XD
This must be why they stopped using the message, and left just the red screen there instead. (Read description)
Yep, The Emergency Alert System System. seems legit guys.
2:33 lol.
Guy watching TV: Yay, Jerry Seinfield!
*Emergency Alert System pops up*
Guy watching TV: Wait, you're not Jerry Seinfield, GET OFF MAH SCREEN!!!!
EAS: No! (I know this was made a long time ago, but I couldn't resist it)
Guy: Don't backsass me!
EAS: Nah nah nah nah!
Guy: WHAT?!
EAS: *raspberry!*
Guy: FFFFUUUUUU

The radio station is actually WHUD 100.7 FM
Red Screen of DEATH! >:)
Perhaps funnier than blocking us from "Bee Movie"?
Ya like jazz?
@@MinePlush Not really a jazz fan. I could listen to "Rhapsody in Blue", "An American in Paris" and other such works with jazz elements.
@@ThisGuyFrritz thats just a meme
@@MinePlush I've seen memes. Maybe not that one.
literally the best eas video i have ever seen
We interrupt this program to play you some Billy Joel
@ThisGuyFrritz You know, the one that says "Let`s wriiiite aaaa booook....tomorrow" and it gets interrupted by the eas.
I think nothing's a better perfectly timed EAS than either:
•a couple about to do their first kiss
•when a dangerous situation occurs, and someone is likely about to get rescued
•a good character is in a flatline and were about to know if he/she has revived, among others...
Then this happens.
An alternative cliffhanger, possibly.
Can anyone please tell me what the song at the beginning is called?
The song is called "Coming Home" by K.D. Lang
The Emergency Alert System System.
Eas voice:I done mesed up on this test!
@statefairshows Do you mean the one that KD Lang was singing? I might as well mention that in case if anyone reading the comment could tell you.
Yeah I also get kinda scared when that happens!
Me too, and why did this eas last much longer than usual and started playing billy Joel? Did they forget to turn off the system
This Cable System Is Conducting A Required Test Of The EAS System
Why do I watch these videos even though I’m afraid of EAS L😂L
The EAS scared me as loud
EAS tests from hell
Somebody forgot EOMs. Illegal test because it's too lengthy.
was this Mid-Hudson Cable or Charter Communications? they were still running analog service in 2009 last I remember
This was Comcast / Xfinity.
@@ThisGuyFrritz huh interesting, I didn't know if there was any Comcast systems in or around the Poughkeepsie/Newburgh or Lower Hudson Valley area... thought it was mostly TWC/Spectrum or Cablevision/Optimum that way
0:08
i'm noticing the s2nd time it sounds more distorted and shit. Almost like when you re-record a video tape over and over and over, the quality decays and withers away with every copy, making it more distorted. Thus, why the 2nd audio test message was distorted and undeciperable
@weatherexpert2 Technically they were relayed in both tests, since they're the same, but the second one did have its very last tone get cut off by the station, so you're 90% right
Lower Hudson Valley area? Is that what the announcer said?
I don't know if they have one. You might want to google to see if they've got one.
Tommorow, EAS
tHis iS a CorDINtED mONkeY tEsT
@ThisGuyFrritz That`s what i mean. What`s it called?
NEXT THING YA KNOW: *A civil threat is present. Stay indoors.*
Bro that silvania vcr must be a real pile of garbage cause that attn. tone sounded beeopbeeopbeeop lol
The Silvania VCR is now gone. Maybe with the electronic recyclables? Don't recall exactly what happened. Anyway, I still have a few VCRs that still work fine... better than that Silvania.
@@ThisGuyFrritz anything was better than that silvania lol, Glad to see your still active after all these years
What was playing after the man said it was a test? A radio station of some sort?
+SFS EAS
Must have been a mistake.
Feel free to come up with your own backronyms for EAS
That’s an EAS Transmission
I thought when Disney XD came out in February 2009
@cr1901 In Dutchess County, NY
i'm in the Dutchess County, NY as well
And now, Jerry Seinfeld. Whoops....I meant the 3
the people on this channel: IM TRYING TO LISTEN TO MY GOD DAMN MUSIC
What system does Denmark have? I'm Danish and I don't know about it.
I WAS BORN IN 2008 AND THAT'S WHY I WATCHED THIS VIDEO! 😀
what is the song at the beginning? (0:00 - 0:08)
KD Lang - Coming Home
thank you
Jordan Bahr I love this song: It might be a good playlist song.
There was no EOM tone at the end of the test.
They fucked up “Emergency alert system system”
My Grandpa died due to this it gave him a heart attack
Is that actually true?
working too hard can give you a heart attack ack ack ack ack ack
9:52 This is terrifying
@statefairshows the @person thing doesn't work anymore
Anthony works in the grocery store saving his pennies for someday .um oh sorry

In 2001 when I was born we had dat and different one's
Well that was very loud I have a DirecTV alerts like last week last time it's a emergency alert system
@MPbmfm Because this system is only in the US, and Denmark has not developed nor adapted a similar system.
And now mr.jerry seinfeld...
EAS: Aww hell naw! .Errrrrttttt!!!!

indeed
My birthday was 28, march
Happy belated birthday:)
It sounds/looks much older than 2008... in any case, where was this recorded (don't have to be specific)?
It definitely was 2008 - this was a really weird time for EAS tests (and non-test EAS interrupts) in the area, I remember this one, and a few other ones where they ended up broadcasting music. 😂
@@DanknDerpyGamer They haven't updated the EAS test fonts/gfx in my area since 2000 at the latest.
I don't remember writing this comment, but in retrospect, I should've realized old fonts/gfx for EAS alerts aren't unusual...
Thats the longest eas alert
they really played radio over the eas here wtf
Was that k.d. lang at the beginning?
Yeah, that woman who looks like a man.
it scares me so much idk why :(
Tomorrow...EAS systems!
@statefairshows Some radio broadcast from 100.7 WATB FM.
what band is this? in the start
As someone said in a comment, "KD Lang - Coming Home".
2:37 click da number a lot of times!
