Honestly, I remember seeing alerts like this pop up randomly while watching tv at night as a kid, warning about child abductions. The worst part is that, for some reason, whenever there was one, the voice was heavily distorted in the creepiest way possible.
Unfortunately, the EAS is most concerned about getting the message out as quickly as possible. This means using an automated voice. This is crucial for situations like tornados, where you might only have a few minutes to get to shelter. There just isn’t enough time for a human announcer to do a few takes to get the message right. Fun fact: The tsunami was generated by the Great East Japan Earthquake, which happened the same day this warning was issued. As a result, this is probably the only time the Japanese EEW system and the American EAS system were activated as a result of the same event.
Yeah. This was broadcast Thursday night 03/10/2011 on Comcast Bay Area on all channels once the Tsunami Center in Hawaii issued the warning for all US west coast. It was a trip to say the very least.
Man, R.I.P to the Japanese people who died. Here in California, a Tsunami Warning EAS is very rare. I remember that I was 6 at that time. It was my first and only time seeing a Tsunami Warning here.
I still remember the moment this happened. I was at my desk with my TV on in the background at about 2am, when the screen suddenly went black. I was puzzled and I went to get up when this started playing all of the sudden. It was kind of surreal.
I live in Napa County, although I think that Napa County would be the least affected or not affected at all because Napa, American Canyon, Yountville, St Helena, The Lake Berryesa area and Calistoga are so inland and there are mountains around the cities so I think it would be unlikely that a tsunami would reach Napa County.
That and I don’t wanna activate any nearby radio stations by accident😳. Funny enough I played the sound from Purge through breaking into a local football field’s sound booth which happens to be nearby a radio tower, and blasting it so everyone could hear it. i was always frightened by these when i was a kid! i fucking freaked out because of the scary creepy noises! FUCK! the eas came up 3 times about a fucking flood! FUCK IT IDFC! fucking trying to scare us to death! they make people panic!
The hours of advanced warning made it so only one person died from the Tsunami in California! He was a 25 year old man who intentionally went to take pictures of the waves with his buddies. The 3 of them got swept away. The other 2 men made it back to the shore alive.
So, Apparently This Was not sent by The National Weather service because this was Issued Directly from Comcast, So instead of the issuer being National Weather Service, This was issued by A broadcaster or Cable system. Tsunami Warnings are generally relayed from host stations, Or EAS Participants, But I've seen warnings in CA that used " Civil Authorities " as a sender. But I believe it doesn't really matter. Kinda shocked this was the second alert I've seen on YT not being relayed by the NWS

It was. From the Great Tohoku Earthquake of March 11, 2011. With the quake measuring a giant 9.0 in magnitude, it remains the most powerful earthquake ever to strike that part of Japan. This was a subduction zone earthquake.
