Not only a fantastic video but you radiate so much warmth - I was two seconds into the video and felt (it's hard to describe) safe, never have I experienced that with any kind of video before. So cool. I'm trying to figure out my hair situation. It looks straight but is frizzy and dry. I haven't done any kind of protein treatment for years though, as I overdone it once which resulted in my hair breaking off, and I've distanced myself to it ever since. But here we are, looking into things, and I found your awesome channel :) Thank you so much for the tips

      I have the exact same problem! I don't get it as HP hair is supposed to love protein, but when I do an intensive protein treatment my hair starts to feel like hay and the ends break off. A low protein one is fine and Olaplex is also fine. I am really struggling on finding the right balance that my hair likes, because I feel like it's doing pretty good untill that protein treatment...

    • @jk9084
      @jk9084 3 роки тому +1

      @@mizzmiami3242 I tried to do it once every 2-3 months (Aphogee or gelatin treatment) but I think it is too harsh. What I did discover by researching is that I need to follow up with a moisturizing, protein-free conditioner so I may try that or play it safe and just mix my hemp protein powder, wheat protein extract, or gelatin with avocado, banana or conditioner, honey and oils as a protein treatment to balance it out with moisture. Also, other products in my routine contain amino acids and/or protein: leave in conditioner (Cantu shea butter), natural gels, oils and spritz (aloe, flaxseed, rice water, hemp, moringa, fenegreek etc.). As you can tell, I use ayurveda too and it made a big difference in my hair health ;).

    I dearly wish I'd known about things like this when I was younger. Now I'm 50, with fine, high density, low porosity hair that is rapidly going grey (which I love) -- I have 2b / 2c waves with 3a curls below, and until recently I had NO idea of my hair type or how to properly treat it. I cut 15 inches off for the summer and starting fresh, and really struggle with knowing just what kinds of protein treatments to use (or not use), and how often. It doesn't take much to weigh my curls down, especially in a place with high humidity, and I loathe the feeling of product residue in my hair. I've not had any luck with leave-in conditioners for that reason.
    With that context in mind, I'm very curious to know more about how to tell between small vs large protein treatments for fine, low-porosity hair, so I have a better idea of what to seek out and what to avoid. Thank you SO much for clearly breaking this down!

    Hi Afope! You are amazing and beautiful 😍😍. I am glad I found your channel This week through AfrikanHairGod’s live stream. I have low porosity which is protein sensitive and am a serious product hoarder. I am however trying to clear my stash and focus on what really works!! I always used to wonder why the knot today worked so well for my hair compared to Shea butter containing products. Now I know why! Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner is an excellent source of mild protein for low porosity hair. It contains milk proteins, silk amino acids and hydrolysed protein right at the bottom of the list. Instead of strong proteins I use henna and it makes my strands thicker and stronger. The Redken extreme line makes my hair super brittle even the shampoo alone 🥺

    Hello - Great video - and I've subbed. Can you tell me why my HP Medium density 4ABCoily hair does not like aloe vera, from the plant, from the plant diluted, from the plant with added oil. I've tried it twice and it makes my hair really hard, brittle and I get some breakage. Everybody seems to get on well with it, but not me...🤔 id really appreciate your knowledge on this...Thanks

    So grateful I found your channel. I've learned much from watching your videos. Please create an identifying our hair types video. I have no idea what my hair type is. It is soft curly in the back, straight in the front. I used rice water 3 consecutive weeks 1st week hair looked great after that it just became frizzier & dryer. Now I can't get it to soften & the volume has tremendously decreased. I'm just trying to keep the hair I have left & make it healthy again. HELP!!!

    Hi there, great video but it opened 2 questions for me. The basic one (yes I am still there😂) how can you tell the thickness of your hair? And second question which protein is small and which is large? For example, I am medium to low porosity and I use the Repair me from Curl Junkie( keratin based) every 6 weeks and it feels more moisturising than strengthening whilst I tried pure hydrolyzed wheat protein in a moisturzing conditionner and my hair felt stiff. Thank you for the help.

    Hi , I love your channel. I'm learning a lot. I have a question. I jokingly refer to my hair as no porosity, protein sensitive. I've recently corrected the protein overload my hair was suffering from and I have coarse hair. Are there any humectents that you would recommend for my hair type? It doesn't appear to like aloe vera. Thank you.

My hair is low porosity + coarse + thick. So far, I've never really gone protein crazy. I'm a stick to what you know kinda girl especially with my hair. Can you share examples of low, medium and high protein products including DIYs please?

    I feel like my hair is high porosity in the front and extremely low porosity in the back... because the hair in the front looks and feels soft and has curl definition.. but the back is all dry, coarse, and no definition at all. And i cant really tell is my hair needs protein or moisture.. or if it’s overloaded with protein or moisture..

    • @natth25
      @natth25 3 роки тому

      I have this same issue, but my hair is the opposite. The front barely absorbs water or any product, looks dry and has zero definition, while the back absorbs water in a minute, has all the curls and is the softest part of my hair. I was going crazy about this, thank you so much for letting me know that I'm not the only one! I was honestly about to give up on my hair. Did you find a solution?

    Hi Fope! IG follower who just made it to your UA-cam 😁
    So I have low porosity hair and fine strands and dryness is kicking my butt! It’s weird, when I moisturize my hair it’s super soft but after maybe 3 days, it’s back to being dry. I don’t get it because I know for sure that I have low porosity hair and it should retain the moisture longer. And remoisturizing is a chore because products just sit on my strands on the 2nd go. It’s like I can only get products into my hair after a wash. It’s exhausting 😩

      Same girl! It’s a struggle. Advice I have is to learn about the ingredients of your products and in what order they’re in. Depending on your weather conditions, there are certain ingredients that will help with humid temp and others with cold temp.

    I frequently use apple cider vinegar on my hair and find it softens and declogs it, but also that it looses a TON of volume. Is this because I’ve stripped too much protein from it when I’ve use ACV?

    I’m low porosity and use protein free products. However, I add fenugreek to my regimen to reduce hair shedding. I currently have protein overload from using too much fenugreek. Protein overload sucks. I’m now going to try Sulfur8 scalp treatment to reduce shedding.

    • @AfopeAtoyebi
      @AfopeAtoyebi  4 роки тому +1

      A few things:
      1. Sulfur is great for scalp flaking, and dermatitis, however, I don't know that this as much of an effective treatment for shedding as other things
      2. Please be careful about applying grease to your scalp directly and leaving it there. Greasing the scalp is actually one of the main things that cause scalp conditions and flaking.
      3. If you are experiencing an unusual amount of shedding, I would love to help you out. If you're interested, you can visit my website (www.afopeatoyebi.com) and see if any of my services will be helpful to you.

    So what are the proteins that are small and better for fine hair vs. the large ones that weigh hair down and build up? Like would silk amino acids have smaller molecules than something like hydrolyzed wheat protein?

    My fine , highpo hair loves small proteins, but gets shredded by larger proteins (ie pritein from most food items like rice , mayonnaise or eggs is too large for my strands and cuts into them .instead. I end up with so much breakage and my hair breaks off in handfuls)

    this video was so damn good, wish i watched it sooner 😭 i have thick wavy courser hair (not certain on porosity tbh, i’m guessing higher) and i’m pretty sure i’m protein sensitive, and there’s protein ingredients in like all my products ;__; my biggest hair ‘problem’ is that it’s so prone to breakage and dryness, and i’m thinking that could be caused by too much protein that i already naturally have. i’m a college student so i can’t afford to get all new stuff haha, but i also don’t want to waste my other products. gonna watch your protein free product vid and see if i can find some more super moisturizing products to balance it out 🥴💚

    hi. I am not sure what type of porosity I have. I have 3b/3c curls. My hair looses moisture as the days go by post wash so I have always thought I have high porosity. However, my hair truly dislikes any styling product with protein in it. The hair feels dry, looses curl and it looks terrible. I can use a protein treatment that is rinsed off but no protein in styling products. help!

    I did my first pre-poo the other day with olive oil and my usual moisture treatment (on damp hair). After double-shampooing my hair and using my curl treatment (styling as usual), my hair felt like RUBBER. It looked so dry and the ends felt dry and sharp. My hair looked like a literal tumbleweed. Does anyone now why this happened? My hair is coarse. Not sure about porosity, but it would be closer to medium...

    Protein relationship for me is like a cat in a bathtub. It ain't happening, sis.
    I have low-porosity, type 1 hair that won't hold a perm for more than a week, maybe medium-or-thick densely packed strands that are frizzy, extremely dull yet super soft to the touch--it's confusing the hell-o out of me. It looks oily all the time and snaps even when wet strands are pulled. When spritzing with water, the water just beads up and just floats off my head. My hair will stay wet all night if I wash it before bed.
    After watching a few of your videos, I bought the Honey shampoo you mentioned and need to find a deep conditioner to see if this is protein overload. I have no idea anymore. Binging on your protein series this weekend and hoping to find some relief.
    It's been a pleasure watching your channel and learning about hair health from an expert. I wish you the best and that you stay healthy and happy!
