    3.17.2023 Did you end up creating a macro to make all the end parallel to their crosspoints? of course you did, haha.
    How about now compare the new v1.3 shape builder tool to the knot path effect?
    I have been using the sbt, and it is more flexible but I am seeing that you end up cleaning up alot of little path segments that get left behind on the Boolean action.

      I can't wait to try out the shapebuildet tool and version 1.3. Are the Inkscape toolbars the same? I think this Knot video will be obsolete- maybe still useful for line art or quick mockups.

    Great video easy steps. I followed them all, however I can't get the switcher tool to cooperate. When I select edit by nodes after grouping the switcher tool appears once then disappears. I often cant find it at all but if I do i cant get it to come up if I click elsewhere. Is this a glitch that you know of? Can you do a tutorial on easy ways to create stencils and not have islands that will fall out?

  • @PINKALIMBA

    I have a problem. Let's say there are 2 thick lines crossing each other, the crossing path makes 4 sharp corners right? (Let's say you "union" both of those lines together and hit the "node" tool, you will see 4 nodes at the crossing path.) How to make those sharp corners disappear and replace with rounded edges?

  • @thewalkingjuju
    @thewalkingjuju Рік тому +1

    Rick, my question would be, how one would keep their original stroke the same width, at the break points, when modifying the ends? I get the measure tool, but I have OCD, and I can't have my work looking wonky, with sharp angles on the ends of my curves! I know I can change the node type to smooth, and I've tried to manage this! The distance between the corner nodes, is not 5 mm for the ends, it's slightly larger! #TIA

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Рік тому +1

      Totally understand. I heard there is a new shapebuilder tool coming that will greatly help. We'll be able to clip exact spacing and choose the overlaps visually. Until then Logos by Nick has a Celtic knot tutorial that uses a different method that I think works better for precision. This Knot Path Effect is fine for speed, but doesn't give much control on how the gaps look.

    Great tutorial, love your built in humour!
    Shape Builder ... ? Still not implemented in latest version. Have seen some prototype modules but none official n the build.
    PS. What's the issue using Copy/Paste in preference to Duplicate function?

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Рік тому +3

      Thanks so much. Shape Builder rumor I heard from @martinowens. If it goes live we'll be able to do some cool things with it. The Copy/Paste issue comes into play when the knot tool is used on more complicated designs. When I set up a tutorial I test a bunch of different scenarios so I can preemptively find out where people may come into problems following along. The simple 2 rectangles doesn't give Knot any issues, but when I went to 4 rectangles Knot erases too much- more than just the intersections. It's fixed by nudging the shapes one or two clicks with the arrow keys, but that will cause frustrations because it's an Inkscape quirk. Copy paste resolved similar issues, and it allowed for the final project to be made repeatedly during my practice with no issues. Part of me likes finding these quirks and sharing the solutions, but another part of me will be happier when Inkscape matures and irons out these bugs.

    4:28 I have been struggling this when I use "duplicate" instead of copy & paste the object. The knot just didn't show. Is this a bug?

    Thanks this is helpful, one quick question, did the Knot path effect changed the path to storke? I mean how does the first grouped object that we have changed to path converted to stroke? sorry am new to Inkscape.

  • @alpineparadise-relaxingsou3349

    Hi, Do you know why the dimension cannot be set precisely? When I enters a dimension in the first box and then in the second box, the dimension changes slightly in the first box. I need to precisely determine the dimension for laser engraving. I have plywood 42cm by 29.7 and I want to make such an engraving so as not to cut anything, but for some reason I can't set the size I want, only the program always changes the second size.

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Рік тому

      Yes, I've noticed this too. I think this Path Effects Knot feature is okay for art and non-precise designs. There is a Celtic Knot tutorial by Logos By Nick that uses a different method that will allow more precision work. I think it's 3 or 4 years old now, but it should be on his channel and I hope it works for your application.

    Thank you for your videos I have been wanting to get into digital art since I was a kid. Today I tried to do this, and the shift and control key does nothing I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what, but it doesn't make a perfect circle in fact I am not sure what they do when holding both down at the same time lol.

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Рік тому

      Thanks! You can try just holding shift while you drag open the new circle. Sometimes that's easier, and it will keep things even. Is the circle completely missing? That could be an issue with Fill and Stroke settings.

      I know the feeling. Without being on the screen, try delelecting everything and then clicking back on to see if Path Effects engages and the switcher is back. Or select edit-paths-by-nodes and then deselect it. Hope this helps. I'll try to log on and do Knot tonight if it's still not working for you.
