    Anti depressants have saved my life. If I've ever switched or discontinued one, I taper very slowly and carefully with my Doctor. If it's done correctly, you should not experience withdrawals.

    Antidepressants don't impair memory loss...in fact, they tend to enhance it. Memory loss and poor memory is actually a symptom of depression itself. It's worth keeping an eye on that as a symptom.

      @@peacholivia9469 Actually, I'm a neuroscientist. I get my information from running cognitive tests and reading scientific journals; not 'mass media'.
      The scientific evidence simply does not corroborate the idea that antidepressants (excluding tranquilizers and major sedatives) cause memory loss.
      And no, I do not work for 'big pharma'. Quite the opposite, as a matter of fact. I can assure you, there are plenty of reasons not to take SSRIs but memory impairment is not one of them.

      Hi Emily!
      I am about to start Zoloft. I also was prescribed buspirone. Would you suggest only taking the buspar as needed? I know I need to talk to my doctor but wanted to get your thoughts since you said you’re not with big pharma. Appreciate your thoughts.

    • @emilydavidson8093

      @@brit1103 I'm not familiar with your medical history, and I do brain research, not medicine. That being said, there is a tendency for the medical field to treat the brain like a "chemical soup" where adding a chemical is treated like a cure. That's not actually how it works. While it's true that your brain can be low on a given neurotransmitter IN A SPECIFIC BRAIN AREA, each neurotransmitter does TONS of different things depending on where in the brain it binds. Some of these will be desired effects, some will be undesirable (hence the laundry list of possible side effects with each drug). It's not so much the chemical that has the effect, but instead, WHERE it binds to.
      The "where" is almost entirely determined by your environment (both internal and external). This is one reason why combining an SSRI like Zoloft with cognitive behavioral therapy or exercise has been shown to be wildly more successful than combining two serotonin compounds. Moreover, your brain undergoes physical changes with every thought you have...some pathways get strengthened and others weakened. The problem with simply adding a slew of chemicals to the brain is that your brain never learns to strengthen the pathways that are rewarding to you. Serotonin drugs are great for short term use to help you get more reward out of your environment, thus telling the brain WHERE is most beneficial to bind serotonin...but unfortunately, too many people take a passive role in their own treatment and so these chemicals act as a crutch over the long-term.
      Whatever you decide as far as pharmacology goes, remember that your brain is like a muscle. If you force yourself to find reasons to be grateful every day, challenge negative thoughts, move your body, accomplish goals, find meaning in hardships, you're telling your brain where serotonin (among other "happy" chemicals) is best used to elevate mood. Take an active role in your own treatment as much as you can. The idea that people are "deficient" in neurotransmitters is a myth...you may simply not have enough of them binding to the receptors that serve you. This can't actually be corrected by drugs alone in the long-term.

    • @brit1103
      @brit1103 2 роки тому

      Emily, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I will take great consideration into taking the steps I need to in order to exercise the muscles to help my brain correct those paths!

    Thank you for sharing your story. I struggled with depression too. I was with a mentally abusive husband who didn't understand my needs and my feelings. He ran away from my family and left me with my child all alone and blamed me. I had to go on anti-depressants. Fortunately I was able to find myself again and become healthy and get off of them, but they did save my life. I was able to wean off of them when I felt stable enough. I hope that you are happy in your life too.

    Just an FYI/constructive comment - antidepressants don’t lower your chance of getting pregnant (I’m a prescriber) - they do lower your libido which could indirectly impact it that way.

  • @Bif265
    @Bif265 4 роки тому +37

    But are you truly happy, Morgan? I’m happy that you’ve accomplished something as hard as leaving meds behind, and that’s not truly what I’m referring to with my comments. You’ve left so much of your freedom behind, you appear to be in a relationship that prevents you from doing stuff that you had previously seemed to love, like singing. Now that’s you’ve gone through so much, so you really want to restrict your happiness like that? Are you really going to isolate yourself with a husband who believes that you should “submit” to him. If this brings you happiness, then go for it, I’ll back off. As long as you’re in a better mental state. Just remember to continue to question the actions of people around you and know that deep down, you have the power and strength to leave any toxic environments that you find. Also Paul frocking sucks, he’s a wet noodle of a narcissist who thinks that you don’t have right to choose what’s best for yourself, when in reality you have every right to escape.

    I’ve experienced many antidepressant withdrawals and it is NOT the same as withdrawal from heavy drugs. Withdrawal from alcohol and heavy drugs like heroin can have you incapacitated and can kill you. Antidepressants do not do that. Please speak to your doctor for advice, not an ill informed Christian.

    I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, panic syndrome and bipolar disorder. I'm happy you're finally feeling a little better and being able to transition to not needing to take medication anymore. Unfortunately, in my case, I can't stop right now and the attempt I made (with medical supervision, of course) made my depression return and I ended up needing to return taking the same quantity I had before. You're an inspiration, Morgan, thank you for uploading this video. About memory issues, this happened with me too, but mostly to most recent memories. I remember almost nothing from 2013 to 2016.

    Romans 10:13 "For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved!" It is so uplifting to hear that Jesus works so consistently in the lives of anyone who comes to him no matter what. I'm so thankful for our Lord and our Father God. I just love you guys and thank you so much for sharing, Morgan. I understand that it's hard to share things about things such as depression and anxiety, but God can use this. I pray you continue in peace throughout your life, I was blessed with peace from above about four years ago now, and I just am kept in the midst of God so long as I put in some effort to stay close to Him. I believe that's the beauty in God, that we just have to put forth a little bit of faith in Him and He does the rest. He even gives us the desire to help and love others, we don't even have to find it in ourselves to want to do those things!! I just am so thankful God works miracles and he can get people out of horrible things that we come across during this life such as depression. God bless you, and everyone who comes here. No matter our differences, Jesus loves you guys and WHOSOEVER comes to him WILL be saved! :)

      Absolutly not. Some people need medication and respond well to it. Not everyone has the same reactions to the same medication. Medication for mental illness, simply balance out the chemicals made in your brain. People who have despression or anxiety (and other disorders) brains dont naturally create or balance those chemicals. That is why we have medication. That is not a bad thing. Taking your medication alongside with the help from mental health care provider is responsbile. Maybe in a couple of years you will be okay and wont need it anymore but those descions should always be made with your physchitrist. You deserve to feel happy and sane and that is what God would want for you. I personally beileve we are very blessed to live in a time where there is a greater awarness of mental health as well as having doctors and medication to help people begin their healing process. Taking medication for mental health (that is prescribed) is not numbing out or covering up your feelings. Its balancing the chemicals in your brain or its giving you a chemical your brain doesn not create. You should never feel ashamed or feel like taking care of yourself is against God's word. Keep doing what your doing and I'm sure your therapist or physchitrist can help guide you with descions about taking medication. But don't ever feel bad about it.

      You should NEVER feel ashamed. All its doing is balancing out the chemicals in your brain. Without it, did you feel your "real" self? Probably not. You probably felt very anxious all the time, and no one should have to deal with that. If whoever you end up with loves you the way you deserve, it should not matter to them whether you take medication or not. As long as it helps you and you take it as prescribed, that's all that matters.

    Now, on topic: definitely renewing your mind with the Gospel is probably the most important thing to defeating depression and anxiety. One resource which can be found for free is A.W Pink’s Attributes of God. Understanding who God is and how He is sovereign, able to meet all of our needs, and is a Heavenly Father to those who have been adopted as His children (by grace through faith) through the purchase of His Son’s blood - it’s truly freeing and life-changing. Fix your mind on Jesus! 🥰

    Have you ever thought about going through a Spiritual deliverance and bind and cast out the demons. Since your a Christian you have every right to get rid of those demons. You can do a self deliverance, make a list of your sins and then bind the demon that came in through that doorway in Jesus Name. Also ask Jesus to close that doorway in Jesus name. First bind the Strongman and then you can spoil his house. If you can't do it yourself then you can find someone you trust that believes in Spiritual Warfare.
