  • The full video of my recent tests in choppy water to see how the Quicksilver 420 Alu RIB can handle a bit of a running sea. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handles the waves and can keep up a good speed while doing so.

Thanks Karl..the latest completes a box set of the South West of Scotland..so hopefully it will allow others to see whats involved in that area//its challenging because of fast tides..but I really enjoyed it

I have watched this exciting video a few times now and only think its wright to say well done. Is it always best to go under the Connell bridge at low and high tides. Really enjoyed watching. Atb Steve 👍

Go Grey Gurnard! Go Donny -- nothing can stop them ;-) Great to have have the knowledge that you can get to safety quickly if the wind gets up unexpectedly.

Hi Stephen..that does not work for me because Im often at displacement speed when it gets rough..so cant go any faster as it would be uncomfortable and possibly not safe ..but I know what you mean

I enjoyed this one Donny, my wife and I had an extraordinarily good Victoria sponge at Port Appin as we sat outside watching the Lismore ferry in the summer. Need to go back and explore more, keen to try navigating the falls too, but will be picking a high tide to do it!

Great video! I have been up Loch Etive myself and loved it.
Are you planning on doing a video showing how you have kitted the boat out? I would love to see how you have secured everything.

Another Loch Etive video being uploaded Chris ..so you will see more of the Loch..it was too windy to go round Mull last weekend. Yup...I will have a video of building the Grey Gurnard as I took lots of photos and clips. As soon as Brian gets here we will make it together :-D

The whole west is still a very remote coastline even near the towns ,,but that's its attraction

Hi Donny. Glad you're enjoying the new beastie. How do you navigate round the islands without getting lost? If it is good old fashioned chart & compass, can you do a video on how to do it? I want to do the West Coast in my F-RIB 360, but am afraid of getting misplaced out on the water! :( Cheers, Eddie

Hi Eddzoid ..I know the west like the back of my hand so don't need electronic gizmos..its Maps ..charts and compass for me. To be honest ..courses and videos wont give you much insight as its local tides and weather that is far more important than knowing the colour of a Cardinal buoy. Visitors often use the Clyde Cruising Club books to get the local info ..example www.clyde.org/publications/ Some long distance kayaking guides covering the west of Scotland are also very good.. IMO much more useful that videos or general courses

    Fantastic video!.
My late father and I kept our boat on a mooring just to the left of Kelly’s pier!.
We’ve launched from that very spot many times, and I have wonderful memories of the great days we spent there!.
It’s a beautiful area, and my go to place when I need a bit of peace in my life, in fact I’m heading up there on Monday for ten days, and I’ll be launching my own inflatable from that very spot!.
I currently have a 3.25 metre Zodiac with a 6hp Honda 4 stroke, it’s enough to get out for a bit of fishing, but I certainly wouldn’t want to
take it out into open water.
I will be upgrading my outfit soon, and I’m wondering, is your new boat a Quicksilver rib, is it 4.2 metre, or 4.7, and I noticed you have an auxiliary engine, what size is it?.
I’m currently researching boats and engine combinations, Quicksilver HD 4.2, Bombard Typhoon, I am also considering the Yamaha F25 four stroke.
I spend quite a lot of time at North Ledaig caravan site, so I’d like an outfit that will be able to go through the falls of Lora at any state of tide, as I love fishing further up the Loch near the fish farms across from the quarry, I’ve always done well there.
And it would mean that I wouldn’t need to continually inflate and deflate my boat, then have to pack it away in the boot at Kelly’s pier, and then drive back to the caravan site.
I could simply launch it at the slipway at the caravan site, and then take it back out there as well!.
Thanks again for a wonderful video,
    Stay safe!.

Hi Donnie, what is your spray deck made out of? It looks very sturdy. Thanks.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox  2 роки тому

Hi LJB ..its made of the PVC I recycled from my last inflatable boat..its the tubes glued together into the canopy shape so very sturdy :-D

@@donnywilcox Is the pvc stretched over anything to give it the canopy shape?
