"And we also don't want to see Bloodchief's Thirst killing my rogue." - the dry delivery and perfect timing made me nearly spit out some of ice coffee.
I seriously appreciate the commentary and explanations of the turns. As someone who listens to stuff like this for driving, it helps me understand, even when I can't watch.
I want party to be good but it isn't. And it isn't fun getting beat into oblivion. WotC is great at printing overpowered gold cards. Do they bother to print overpowered multiclass cards when it features THEIR OWN BRAND?
Well, may as well try B/G/U Party Landfall deck with dowser and thwart ( with creatures to complete party ) with ashaya and greenwarden + basically anything with comes into play effect.
Landfall deck : 1. You need to play lands. 2. The condition is fulfilled by itself. Rogue deck : 1. You need to play lands. 2. You need to play creatures that can mill your opponent upon play or upon attacking. 3. Make sure that opponent has 8 cards in grave (in which can easily be met by point 2). Condition fulfilled. Party deck : 1. You need to play lands. 2. You need to play a creature. 3. You need to play another creature with different class. 4. You need to protect those creatures while you search another creature with different class than those creatures you control. 5. When you get your full party after spending cards to protect them from removals, the condition is fulfilled.
I've been playing an Esper party deck I brewed a while back. Been a long road tweaking it and trying to optimize it. I feel like party decks *really* wanna play black, there are so many good party cards in black. Malakir Blood Priest, Deadly Alliance, Thwart the Grave (which is really useful against all the rogue and mill around), Coveted Prize, among a few others. Thanks for the great video LVD! Party is one of my favorite mechanics recently and its awesome to see you playing it!
The party mechanic is so flavorful, but for some reason someone decided that having 4 creatures of different types on the battlefield is too easy, so the payoffs have to be mostly underwhelming. Rogues on the other hand... 8 cards in graveyard is sooooo hard, we better make sure that the payoffs are worth it.
What do you mean? All the rogues get from 8 cards in the grave is stats, 1 gets deathtouch and skydiver gets the ability to sac itself for a draw. Literally the only payoff that isn't bigger numbas or a draw is zerath-san, but he doesn't even require 8 cards in the grave. The payoffs are certainly worth it, but they are leagues worse than party is. Party is just harder to fulfill. Rogues real strength is their flash and ability to hold up counterspells before developing their board - but that was the case with simic flash too.
@@dkznikolaj7013 I was also referring to drown in the loch, a destroy any creature and counter any spell by turn 2, and Into the story, an instant speed draw 4 for 4 Mana. Another card that is seeing more play is Lullmage's domination. A steal creature spell with a good rate. Vantress gargoyle is another culprit, but he's less oppressive. Anticognition is also essence scatter with upside. But even without these cards, the party payoffs are basically the same. A cheap removal spell, a cheap draw spell, a buff to all your creatures. Obviously it was an exaggeration, but the power disparity between the two mechanics isn't there, you'd expect there to be more oomph.
@Elnatan Bitensky Drown isn't part of the rogue archtype though, and neither is into the story. Those are eldraine cards. I'll give you that lullmages is a good card, but the better rogue decks doesn't run it. Gargoyle is - again - not a rogue card. It's an eldraine card. Anticog is alright, but rogues generally doesn't have problems with creautures, so it doesn't do well in its own specific archtype (also its not with upside always. It's a bad quench if the rogue deck doesn't get their mill fast enough). You can't just take all kinds of random cards from other sets and say "This archtype was designed badly because it can use these other cards". Like, i dont disagree rogues are powerful, but youre reaching if you want to say that ROGUES was designed with better payoff than party because of already existing, non-rogue related cards are strong. The only rogue related cards you mentioned aren't even played in regular dimir rogues. By your logic, you might as well call teferi's tutelage a rogue card because it helps dimir rogue mill a lot.
@@dkznikolaj7013 I think you missed the main point... Although, remember, also rogue synergy is a part of the being pushed. Thieves guild enforcer mills when rogues ETB, the thought thief mills when a rogue attacks, it gives them a great alternate win con. I lost so many games to call of the death dweller returning two enforcers. The point of the eldraine cards is that they fit exactly into the archetype and it's bonuses, it's basically like saying thieves guild enforcer is from M21, so it doesn't count. Again, I admitted it was an exaggeration, but I do think the party payoffs should be something crazy like dream trawler, because it's so hard to get to.
@@elnatanbitensky8314 I mean, your first comment was talking about the payoff, right? I never said rogues aren't good at getting to those 8 cards, I was just saying that a full party is 10 times stronger than rogues with 8 cards in the grave. Eldraines 7 cards in grave theme fits really well with rogues by default, but its still unfair to compare it like that since party is a mechanic that is only in this set, while rogues needs the outside support. I count thief guilds enforcer because it was obviously designed with the same theme in mind 8 cards, is a rogue. Drown in the loch and into the story was supposed to work in a dedicated 7 cards ub the grave deck, which is why i dont count them. I also count robber of the rich because rogues have a sub theme of stealing things from the opponent. It would be like counting fabled passage as a landfall card because of how well they compliment eachother. That said, didn't LVD in this video get like 4 cards and 15 damage in the first game from just 2 party cards? Plus the party cards are extremely good at finding eachother. And thats despite the fact that partys best payoff aren't the creatures, but the spells. I honestly think party is good as it is. Often times, a full party just wins - or gets to a point where it wins the next round. Most importantly its really enjoyable to watch
I hope we are going to get a party video in all the different color combinations that are worth showcasing. Black has some pretty good cards, but obviously thats an entirely different deck then.

Just got into magic like two weeks ago. This deck looks fun, you guys think I could use it to climb into gold? I tried Gruul Adventures, but I’m not sure that’s for me.
This deck is fun but rather weak too. If you have to craft a lot of rares to build this deck I would advise against it. However, it shouldn't prevent you from climbing to gold.
There are too many archetypes and playstyles, so you have to find your personal favorite. You can climb into Gold with pretty much any deck, given you have time to play many matches. This deck, it is very weak against removal, sweepers and certain matchups like mono-green aggro.
i just made a very nice abzan cleric deck. a little life gain and a lot of +1/+1 tokens with a couple powerful enchantment auras/spears. a couple luras and a vampire added for value (its only splashing abzan for that 1white+1green cleric) splashing a single one off colour card is easier than ever in standard at the moment.

I hope this deck survives the test of time because with so many rares and mythic cards that I currently don't have it will take tons of drafts to get there.
You probably don't want to invest wild cards into any midarnge deck that doesn't play golgari colours because mill/rogues is here to stay and you want those shades and Polukranos for the free wins.
