MM has some of the best covers ever made. He manages to keep the original feel of the song and still completely make them his own. Just check any of these: Personal Jesus, Tainted Love, Down in the Park, I Put a Spell on You, This Is Halloween...
The Eurythmics version: "A well-done steak, smothered in mushrooms." Marilyn Manson's interpretation of the same thing: "A burnt piece of dead cow, covered in fungus." (Not intended as a criticism, nor as a measure of relative quality.) You could use the contrast between the two versions in a college class about how to cover a song and make it your own.
Well, I can not. It's true that Eurythmics are not Radiohead or Pink Floyd, but they made a HIT for posterity catchy as hell (confession: I've loved Annie and her voice for almost 40 years); Marylin Manson meanwhile is just a pose. If he had a common appearance for sure his musical career wouldn't has last more than 5 years. This artist is too short of ideas, repeating constantly, the genius here is the one behind the production desk. Period.
I absolutely love how open-minded you are about things like this. I almost feel like I could send you absolutely any song to react to, and you'd find the merit in it, and understand why it achieved any degree of popularity.
Exactly why I was a huge fan of mansons. He’s so creative as f. And creepy cool. Vocals are amazing. The concerts were beyond entertaining. Hard rock bass booming fun. I remember being right up front and he leaned over my friend and I and pointed at us ...lol it was cool at the time
The first time I heard this song, I was laying on my bed in the dark with headphones on, in that space between sleep and being awake. It scared the living hell out of me.
I’ve been waiting for you to see/hear this song/video. And not sure if I’ve commented about this before but I’ve been on a mini date with this man. He is a gentleman.x
Your shock factor comment is very accurate. I remember people would be up in arms and protest wherever his band toured. If you ever watch any of his interviews, he's highly intelligent and operates on a totally different level.
Manson started out as an artist that had bizarre and creepy art. He didn't get the response he wanted so he took a step back and rethought how he ccx was doing this and decided to add music to his art ideas. There was an E! True Holiwood story on his beginnings. You can probably find bbn if here on UA-cam.
I never heard much of Marilyn Manson's music before or this song. I heard he did this version though. It's very unique and it's true-only Marilyn Manson could decipher this video. I love the original but I also love this version now.
Manson has always been one of my favorite artists. He's very much a shock-rock artist, but it's important not to get too hung up on the visuals. Many of Manson's songs tackle topics like society deteriorating, capitalism, and racism. Particularly songs from Antichrist Superstar.
@@patrickschrag3200 Wow! Thank you. That wasn't bad at all. Pretty similar to the original, beat wise and all. Didn't go too twisted like some of the other covers.
Gave the original lyrics such a different vibe. Some of them want to use you. Some of them want to abuse you. It was just so perfect for him to do this song.
I also love his cover of Cry Little Sister from The Lost Boys movie. I saw him a lot early in his career, he would stand outside by his tour bus for hours and sign autographs for everyone who wanted them.
If you liked this cover you are going to like "Tainted Love" (also a cover) from Marilyn Manson. Tainted Love is my favorite song from him. You might enjoy that video more because it's not as scary as beautiful people or sweet dreams.
@Rose Madder Since I heard tainted love for the first time that beat when the video is starting is pure gold for me. You can tell he is very smart in his interviews. I think a lot of people expected that he act creepy or weird in his interviews so that they can have a better interview but he just prove a lot of people wrong. Dont judge a book by its cover
@Rose Madder I do not consider myself a fan of his, but I was REALLY looking forward to the "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll" movie. Would like to have seen an American McGee / Tim Burton / Rob Zombie type feeling of Lewis Carroll the man, not the stories he penned.
@Rose Madder Apparently it's been on again/off again since 2004 or so. Apparently it didn't get good reactions when he released the trailer. I've been hoping it would get the greenlight, but pretty sure it's done for. Apparently he put out a studio album "Eat Me Drink Me". I think he has really been drawn to Lewis Carroll because nobody sees the twisted story of the man who wrote it, only the fun loving cartoons of Alice. There was a page on it on the MansonWiki site. He even had someone already lined up to play Alice. I think he himself was going to play Lewis Carroll.
I was so worried when I saw your "I was scared" lol. But he really has an interesting way that he has always compiled his music......yes I am seeing the pig, Jay lmao! 😂 Omg, you are a trip love your reactions! And I so cannot explain some of the things that go on in his creative mind....
if manson covers something its probably going to be good. check out his covers of AC/DC's highway to hell, John Lennon's working class hero, and the mash theme song titled suicide is painless, personal Jesus and tainted love
Manson videos are so unique, dark & bizarre. Great cover, but if you want to see a creepy & scary video that MTV used to play late at night, check out Aphex Twin- Come To Daddy. Similar to The Prodigy music i think. Aphex Twin known for bizarre & creative music videos.
I love his music and as for his videos, I can appreciate the originality in the fact that even what's considered ugly and unpleasing can be beautiful and artistic. You should check out tainted love next. Much love from sweden
Mr. Marilyn Manson, maybe the smartest artist ever and his interpretation of sweet dreams is heartbreaking, so unbelievable brave to wear such costumes. In the white dress with dreads it's twiiggy ramirez, guitarest and longtime frend. Like manson he chose his name based on the serial killer Richard Ramirez.
Greta Van Fleet: Highway Tune... Modern band (3 brothers and a friend ranging from 22 to 25 years old) with a Classic Rock n Roll style that sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin! GO!
Marilyn Manson is a performance artist above all else, by that I mean he is an artist like a sculptor or a painter. He obviously related to goth rock more than anything else and I love his work.
I love that you're into the build up to the heavy guitar part. You should give Mayonaise by The Smashing Pumpkins a listen. That song takes you to another realm.
Sweet dreams my *ss...more like nightmares. I actually like a few of his songs, this one included but good lord, he went all in to be as freaky and terrifying as possible. It overshadows his talent.
Going from the Beach Boys to this is a complete 180. If you can get past the look Manson is a pretty smart guy. Good for you to at least take listen to this stuff. Great job man. The look on your face is priceless.
Thanks Jayvee for the Reaction. next of Manson..1. Man that you fear. 2 don’t like the drugs,(but the drugs like me). 3. long hard road out of hell. The last one you may not be able to show
Once you get over Marilyn Manson's first impression, what eventually comes it's business as usual. What wasn't business as usual was the expression on your face when the video was over. I'm still laughing my heart out!!!
As soured as I am on Marilyn Manson currently, I can't deny his musical chops and style, and I was a fan for years. Check out The Man That You Fear and Lunchbox. The Man That You Fear is a haunting video, as opposed to just "shocking," and Lunchbox is one of the band's earlier recorded works.
I feel that w/ Manson sometimes he was so into the whole shock of it that the music was overlooked. I personally really like when visually he went more glam rock...
I'm a Mansonite from way back. Yes, he did some trolling. You had me rollin when you first got the "wtf" face when Twiggy pulled up his dress. Check out something from his Holy Wood record.
His cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" is pretty cool, And his songs "Tourniquet" and "Lunchbox" If you like Marilyn Manson you"d probably also get into White Zombie also with "Thunder Kiss 65", "More Human Than Human" "Grease Paint and Monkey Brains"
To understand Marilyn Manson simply look at the policy he built himself on "The more parents hate me; the more teenagers love me." He adopted the negative stigmas of society as visual demonstration of freedom of expression which resonated very well with the masses of teens that struggled with self expression whether it be from social, domestic or medical issues.
Jay ,You really need to check out The Walker Brothers, The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore. Make sure it's the remastered version. You will not be disappointed
Your reaction to the scream had me rollin'...lol Then your pig comment! HAHAHA Then when the song was over and you took a brief moment, sighed, took a deep breath and proceeded to discuss the video and the pig again. Loved it! Great reaction!
I saw him and Rob Zombie on the Twins of Evil : Evil never dies tour summer 2019. Had great seats. Was a great show. $80.00 Canadian just forward and top of the 1st section off floor. Eye level with the band. Aww yeah fun stuff.

One of the best, succinct comparison analogies I've ever read. Brilliant.
He is scary!!!!!!
I love both Eurthmics and Marilyn.....just hate mushrooms! LOL! Great post, love it!
The best way to compare the two versions..Great job.
You nailed the analogy
I can appreciate his version. Annie Lennox is a goddess and her original is epic
annie lennox sounds like a sac of cats being tortured
marilyn manson`s version is the best cover in all the time!!
True true..
The original is pure uncanny valley visually with an absolutely great voice.

It's one reason he is one of my favorite reactors. Also like his personality. Not into zany reactors. But he always gives great feedback, too.
Great word's😘
One of the best covers of all time. And yeah, Manson went all in on the shock
Check out his covers for "Tainted Love" and " Personal Jesus". They are great. I thought he actually did better than the originals.
Tainted love is such a great cover from manson.
Mmmm I wouldn't say better than the originals but they are really good! This one is better than the original tho I think!
He's never gonna be better then Depeche Mode

Great cover. I was first introduced to Manson as a kid watching the 1997 Spawn movie. He did a song for the Soundtrack, “Long Hard Road Out of Hell”.
I had that single :D great song
the original by the Eurythmics (Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart) is a classic
this is also a classic
The first time I heard this song, I was laying on my bed in the dark with headphones on, in that space between sleep and being awake. It scared the living hell out of me.
Lol
lmao.
The original is a perfect pop song and with Lennox voice great, a timeless classic. But Manson's version is war in a phone booth. I love it
His last album We Are Chaos was absolutely brilliant in some respects.
To me one of the best since the golden age …
Certainly brilliant .... with some years having past since 2015, I am really starting to appreciate his last 3 albums in a new way
I don't really listen to his music but when i heard this cover i didn't know whether to like it or hate it. He's scary. 💖x
ALL his covers are fantastic!
It’s amazing that this is 25 years old.
But it's on youtube for 11 years
@@marcin8865 Cuz UA-cam is not that old. Duh ;)
That was actually the soundtrack for "the house of haunted Hill" movie.
Song was featured in the film House on haunted Hill which was set in a haunted asylum
Although I don’t know most of his songs, he is truly an innovator & a musical genius.
