Melinda Clarke brought her A game to this episode. Her face in the mirror give me chills... bottomless sorrow, rage, and drug induced numbness in one look. Job well done!
This intro will always be one of my favourites, the music was so spot on with the scene you could feel everyone's sadness, also mainly because we we're going through the same thing I guess, we all loved Marissa like that 💯
when she left the show it was basically over. Same as when Eric left that 70's show. Really sad. And sad what she went through personally. At least to me, Mischa Barton from the OC era was literally the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen. She was flawless.
julie kills me. her expression in the bathroom... so dead inside. also love how kaitlin is trying to be a cool edgy teen but can't hide the concern in her voice when she speaks to julie. a daughter worried for her mother... heartbreaking
With stranger things making the original blow up like nothing else I had this feeling I’d heard a version of the song before. Remembered I’d heard placebo doing a song like it, googled it and read it was used in the OC and it all clicked. This wasn’t one of the placebo songs I downloaded off Kazaa back in the day. The one and only time I heard it was on the OC and just from that I remembered enough to trace back to the first time I heard it. I’m glad it’s had such a resurgence as it allowed me to really appreciate it, both the original and the cover
I'm glad this song is getting recognition because of Stranger Things, But the OC used it in a more meaningful way, plus the Meg Myers cover is also amazing. Still wish they had an alternate ending for a Marissa :(
Season 3 was all over the place and the writers had no clue where they were going with the story. Killing her off in that fashion was lazy writing only done for shock value. And I get Barton was done with the show, but the character didn’t even need to get killed off.
I used to laugh this show when i was a teen, i graduated Hs in 06’. I was brought back to it from nostalgia and regret not being in the moment back then…Such a great show 😢
Man this gets you in those feels, during these weird times in 2021, cancel culture , covid , vaccines , anger and then take me back to this time it’s just a roller coaster and seeing all these old faces really takes you back. We all needed a friend like Ryan and a lawyer like sandy
My fav of all time Scene of the o.c for me this what made the show truly stand out and The music fits so well and seeing how Ryan still can't get over Marrisa's Death what made it Great. and I do Think the Early 2000's shows at the time for me was the best in my opinion 😎👍
Very good rola bro strange this great series of my adolescence I congratulate you you did a great job, greetings from Hidalgo Mexico 🇲🇽 magical ... Blessings.
The OC was and forever will be a great show. Mischa Barton’s popularity at the time of the peaks and valleys of the shows own popularity became evident once her charter was written off. The same thing happened when Eric & Michael were written off that 70’s show. Integral main characters that core fans grow to love must remain for those viewers to stay. Schawrtz was pissed Barton’s ego thought the show centralized on her. Ironic how her real life antics caused her most popular charter ever to be killed for having been involved with the wrong crowd, then equal the demise of the show altogether. So much went wrong behind the scenes that the core fans never had a true shot at saving it. I can’t tell you how many times they switched the airing days and times. Putting it up against Friends and other beloved series. Instead of fostering it and helping it grow, they used it for the time they could then erroneously cut their loses. At least it forced Schwartz to write the great final scenes and ending. “Welcome to the O.C. Bitch!” Forever ♾ 😌
Lol marissa sucked though, Eric and Kelso were great. But point made especially since OC’s largest demographic were teen girls who idolized Marissa/Mischa.
Damn I knew I heard this song somewhere!!!! I watched The OC and The Vampire Diaries way before Stranger Things. Stranger things did it justice though!
I love having this thought a year ago ish and thinking of this exact thing and see the internet lose their minds over it only to think it’s super weird bc… the moment is already taken!
What's brutal about this episode is that Julie actually liked Ryan now because he suffered just as much as her with Marissa dying. They knew each others pain and wanted retribution.
I wish they showed Kaitlins grief more like her mom or Ryan or Summer they only showed her worry about her mom but we never really got to see her dealing with it alone by herself or looking at that album Marissa made for her for her sixteenth birthday. They completely retconned it. The only time she really mentioned it is when she told her mom We lost dad, We lost Marissa when she was explaining how their lives got turned upside down and she doesn't even have her mom cause she's to depressed over Marissas death. We only got to see her Jealousy over the fact her mom loved Marissa more and forgot Kaitlin existed. What the creators showed made it look like she didn't care her sister was gone and she got over her death quickly that she wasn't missing her and she was still Jealous of her mom missing her sister and not paying attention to her and she was always flirting with the boys.
I know it’s not the original BUT I love this version so much more 😅 OC was my youth and this scene is so iconic because of this song ❤️😎🎧 But omg that scene in stranger things 4… I can’t! It was SO good!! 🏃🏻♀️💨🎧🎶
It's crazy cause it was on Vampire Diaries for like half a minute in a short scene but it was on a full on emotional scene in this show the aftermath of Marissas Death which just like Stranger Things it was played during an important emotional scene but yet it still wasn't big enough it until Stranger Things. Which it should've been because that whole opening sequence was so tragic and heartbreaking the the characters are struggling with their grief and separation 💔 with the song playing in the background was so beautiful
Musically, this is my fave version. Emotionally, my fave is Jinks from Warehouse 13: But you have to give it to Stranger Things for reviving people’s appreciation of the song.
It was in the o.c and the vampire diaries way b4 it was ever in stranger things. It was the placebo version and not the original kate bush version. But still i have the tvd version on my old ipod from the season soundtrack. I might of had the o.c one as well on a older ipod. So🤷♀️
I think this was in NCIS LA and Wrestlemania promo with Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. But mans knew Placebo version from The OC. Some mans are just stat padding on the song because it was on Stranger Things
I wish they showed us Kaitlins grief it seemed like she held it in to be stronger for everyone around her. I wanted to see her crying for her big sister not jealous at her mom for always choosing Marissa first. That made her seem more insensitive about her death.
I was watching Strange things, which lead me to Kate bush, which lead me to Placebo cover, which lead me here..so yes I’m currently going down a rabbit hole 😅
The early parts of Season 4 for the aftermath of Marissas death was when Season 4 was at its strongest seeing their grief but after that it started going downhill especially with Marissas annoying replacement Taylor. I mean I know just like Lydia became the main heroine from Teen Wolf after Allison died and people did not like her replacement Kira. Summer was promoted to main heroine but then Taylor suddenly became a main and was apart of a group who didn't even like her and thought she was annoying like the fans. Ryan wasn't the same character when they forced him and Taylor in a relationship it seemed to awkward. The show lost me at that point but I'm glad he didn't end up with her and instead honored Marissa in the end. We would rather him be alone than with Taylor. The relationship seemed forced, awkward, overbearing and there wasn't even real love.
Fun actual fact: The Actress who played Caitlyn Cooper(Marissa's little Sister)in The OC is actually just that, an Actress. She's never done porn nor does she go under the name Riley Reid. THANK YOU!!! that's what I been saying
This was ALL I COULD THINK OF while watching Stranger Things
Thank you so much for this
Yes!! Love Stranger Things but this song will always be about The OC grappling with Marissa’s death for me.
For me it was yo yo yo I know this song “the oc” lol
I think we can all agree that every song used on the OC show matched perfectly with the scene it was played on
Even MMM WHATCHA SAAAAYYYYY?

Great truth!
The early 2000s had some awesome shows. I loved The O.C
It really did. It impacted me. I’m now 28. I seen when I was 16 and 17 years old when my mom had em on DVD

I swear to God, this song fits the scene so well.
I loved this show.
Absolutely loved it
got this scene stuck in my head for 20 years. stranger things s4 has a cover of the song in a huge scene too and it brought me back again
@@carlosfranciscocardoso it's not a cover in stranger things, Kate Bush wrote this song. It's the original
Stephanie Savage. I memorized her name. If you EVER need anyone to score your film or show, HIRE HER!!!

Those 30 seconds just totally break you inside...
Did Melinda die ??
@@elenagilbert4918 she is still pretty alive XD
Exactly, somehow you can feel the sadness
she made me cry with the way she captured her character's grief with one look... :(
This intro will always be one of my favourites, the music was so spot on with the scene you could feel everyone's sadness, also mainly because we we're going through the same thing I guess, we all loved Marissa like that 💯
I still think about my best friends sometimes
This is the version of this song that I relate to more than the Kate Bush one.
“If I only could make a deal with God, and get Him to swap our places.” lyric hits deep for someone struggling with grief and survivors’ guilt.
when she left the show it was basically over. Same as when Eric left that 70's show. Really sad. And sad what she went through personally. At least to me, Mischa Barton from the OC era was literally the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen. She was flawless.
7 yrs later as soon as the song/scene starts still goosebumps n chills

This was an incredible way to open the season. Really the season peaked here
A thought intro but reallistic at the time, it hurts
Literally the first and last scene of the season is the only really great part. Running Up That Hill and Life Is A Song
First 2 or 3 episodes of this season were great so so dark and Ryan seeking revenge it was brilliant.
Well said.
Still freaking kills me and GOD I miss this show
Same. RIP Marissa. Only Tv show to make me cry, even now over a decade down the line
oh man i loved the oc. can't believe that the show aired nearly 20 years ago. where did that time go????
I don’t know… miss that time
This part will hurt me all my life!!!
This scene is so dark, deep, emotional & the song fits it so well. So good.
Julie and Ryan’s shared grief in S4 got us phenomenal scenes.
Nice, now I'm going to rewatch this series, just for this scene.
Never heard of Placebo before but now I'm a fan.

Anyone back here wondering why Stranger Things made this song so popular when you know it from this scene?
Me 🙋🏻♂️
Me!
Yes! Had to come back to watch this scene again.
Man I'm so glad real fans know where this song started from and not no damn stranger things OC DID IT 1ST
It's because they used the original that wasn't covered by Placebo (as heard here) and it's relevant to the Era in which stranger things takes place
This song always gets me in my feelings.
When everyone started talking about this cause of Stranger Things I was like…no, people my age should ALREADY KNOW THIS SONG CAUSE OF THE OC!
I used to laugh this show when i was a teen, i graduated Hs in 06’. I was brought back to it from nostalgia and regret not being in the moment back then…Such a great show 😢
Max flexing her Seth Cohen starter pack in Stranger Things. The OC was something you just had to be around for every week!

Kate Bush wrote this song it’s on the album Hounds Of Love. She’s probably one of the most underrated artists. Absolutely fantastic album.
I listen to siriusxm’s 80’s channel about 95% of the time and ive heard kate bush once which is pretty upsetting. What a fantastic song.
I think everyone knows her now
I’m from the future, Kate Bush is underrated no more
