How about not even using a pee bottle and just using horse pellets / pine pellets ? If it can dehydrate a 1200 lbs animal's waste almost instantly, It would probably work for a human as well.
Try the horse pellets / pine pellets along with the bucket and bag. It dries everything out, there is no smell, your van wont be a biohazard like ALL VEHICLES with a "composting " toilet that doesn't compost anything.
Especially considering you can create a composting toilet using a 5 gallon buckets and not even need a diverter if you use expandable pine pellets from tractor supply stores and its dirt cheap. Or just bags which is convenient on the road. In a homestead off grid setting id 100% do composting though, just not $250 to do it.
Those who buy might think it's for a good cause. With Boxio supporting various organizations (that are not about skiing or ice-skating). Something they don't advertise on their web page but the banner is still there on their Amazon shop.
😂 Why not get some appropriate Parts and 5 gallon bucket, coco coir, and assemble, add coco coir. Plastic bags are a must if your full X RVer I guess - only way. I've had Natures Head for yrs now - great for my situation no regrets. Diluted white vinegar for clean up. No chemicals.
My biggest beef with Boxio is that it is not smooth on the outside, that thing is going to be a nightmare to clean on the outside. It's not a quick swipe, you have to clean out all those little nooks and crannies and edges. Just say no.
Exactly. Who needs all the expensive gimmicky stuff anyway? I think some people who are new to the lifestyle make things too complicated and tend to get sucked into all that stuff. Eventually, they will get tired of losing money/time and learn the easier ways.
I used a Reliance hassock for a couple years. Being a female, I got tired of needing to switch out for urine or solids. I researched and came upon the Trelino Evo. It wasn't cheap but everything just “works”. Separation is spot-on. Emptying and any occasional cleaning is a breeze. The fit and finish shows that they really thought out all aspects when designing. AND it has a soft close lid! I am extremely pleased with the purchase. Inside it, I use pine hamster bedding. It is easy to find and cheap. When solids are surrounded with it, there are no smells.
I have a Trelino also. It was expensive, but a simple system and VERY well made. Sturdy. I bought the tall one with the wooden lid and love it! Highly recommend!
I love my Trelino EVO I’m in a class C and I pulled the flush toilet out and replaced it with the Trelino. As a senior female with bladder issues, this toilet is great for me and easy to use and clean. I wipe the urine area with TP and vinegar
Since I'm nearing my 70's I think I'll pass on doing a deep squat to sit on a milk crate....I could do it, but I would need somebody to help get me up! Knees don't appreciate squatting at my age!
I think it's a "use it or lose it" type of thing, plenty of 70 year olds on the planet can hang out in the deep squat, but they've been doing it their whole lives. I guess that's motivation for me to keep squatting.
I have the boxio... I've had it for over a year and I love it. Bob, you didn't look at the directions... It tells you how to tie the lid on. You didn't do it right. I liked the bucket method too, but I prefer to separate. I never get poop on it. It's very easy to keep clean. And I have no problem with odors because I keep it clean. I spray the diverter down regularly with vinegar and wipe it down. I use dish soap to clean the pee jug and occasionally use a little bleach to rinse through it for heavy cleaning. For the litter, I like to use crushed up pellet bedding that I get from tractor supply. Works great for me. I do not compost it. I just throw it in the trash (and use cheap small trash bags in the "pooper")... As you would a baby diaper or a dog poop bag. I bought it because it was the cheapest. Works great in our camper and for a middle of the night run in my bedroom. Yes the more expensive ones are better but this is sufficient.
Same here. I use cedar shavings from Tractor Supply and spray the urine diverter area with Fabuloso or a scented bathroom sanitizing cleaner. Works great for daily use.
I used a Trelino last summer in my popup camper. I mostly avoided using it for pooping, but urinating into it during the night was a huge improvement for me over the bucket system. The Trelino seems a bit better built than the Boxio you demonstrated, has a slow-close hinged lid and held up to my large self. The urine container needs to be dumped after a couple days, or you get a spare one. I use a spray bottle of vinegar/ water to spray the chute before and after urinating, keeps the odor down and makes eventual cleaning easier. I have coconut coir as a medium but as I said, I haven't used that yet. Pit toilets are my camp go to. Prior to this I used a bucket system with cat litter. Mixing both feces and urine creates smell quickly, requiring a frequent bag change. The height of these are a challenge, so the Boxio extension seems to help. My popup has a storage shelf that makes the elevation work for urinating, but I use a folding step for it when sitting is required. Gloves and disinfecting Clorox wipes round out my system.
I use pine pellets for cat liter. Urine dissolves the pellets with no scent. Light compared to used kiter. Super cheap at Home Depot (40 lbs under 8$). Wonder if it could be used for that?
Spray a mixture of white vinegar and water ( about 1:3) on the urine receiver after each use. It'll stay clean and fresh. The real value of a urine diverter toilet is that it reduces odor because it keeps the liquid waste apart from the solid waste. No meaningful composting is involved, in my opinion. Our Trelino "composting" toilet is a bit more expensive than the Boxio, it is much better made, and is very solid. My wife uses it; I maintain it. It is a good unit for our purposes. Happy trails!
We’ve been driving South America for the past 15 months in our Promaster using a Thetford Curves porta potty. It sells now for $180 and we use baking soda in it, put our toilet paper in a trash can and dump in any toilet anywhere, no chemicals and no clogs. If it starts to smell it’s overdue for emptying. Easy. Cheers from Tierra Del Fuego.
I use a fold up toilet that looks a lot like this boxio but folds flat and two lavender scented kitchen bin bags one inside the other. Followed by lots of baby wipes. Tie up and bin! Bingo. I am a man so pee in a bottle. Simple. Greetings from Australia. Love Bob's work!
My recommendation is a collapsible toilet (called Ann Katy toilet on Amazon). Costs about the same as those seats for the bucket. Same strategy as the bucket, only more comfortable and space saving 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I think I’m going to get the ann Katy right now. I just have the general collapsible one, but it seems very low and kind of flimsy.
I bought a similar device, Bob, and you hit the nail on the head. A lot of pee smell and poop cleaning involved. I'm getting the bucket. What a waste of $600!
The TRELINO composting toilet is well made, aesthetically pleasing, and easy to clean for $375. I love it and use it in my mini van. It is a major improvement over the Boxio! I am just a camping and traveling grandma with no ties to TRELINO, so I’m just sharing what works for me. There is not a better one in that price range that I have found and believe me, I have tried several and it’s a big step up from the “bucket” for us gals!
I have a Trelino and it works well but I find it difficult to empty the urine container because of the shape. The Boxio is the same shape-there is a rim around the hole and the urine doesn't flow out completely, some always remains. While I like it, I am looking for a better option
Bought one last summer and have only used on a few overnights in my van. Wish I would of seen your video before purchasing. Have a big grip about the clips and wrote the CO about it. Basically just got a we know about the problem but no solution response. Other than that it has worked OK so far but not sure I would buy again especially after your video.
I have one in my truck shell camper, and it has its place in my configuration, although I will say it is an acquired taste. My wife loves it, and she has no problems with the separator. It is 11 inches tall, which is a milk crate height, so I have the extension which puts it at roughly toilet height, which works okay for me. I want to say, though, although the string is not my favorite part of the assembly, there is a definite way that it has to be placed on the toilet, and there are directions, which Bob missed. That aside, I understand the frustration, and to me, a couple of plastic ties from Harbor Frieght will suffice 🙂. To each his own, gets the job done lol!
5 gallon pail, Lug-able-loo seat, plastic trash bags, and wood pellets from Tractor Supply (40 lb bag for $6). One suggestion on the pail, we upgraded to a 7 gallon one, makes the seat height more comfortable.
We don't live in a van, but we did have an outhouse at first, then an in house "composting toilet" (i.e. a bucket) and Bob is right, these are not "composting toilet" 8:33. These are just bins to temporarily store body waste till you locate a place to dump the contents. The separation of urine is mostly to avoid aroma. Urine is actually most of the aroma from a "composting toilet". If you use a bucket (as we did for years before we installed a "real toilet"), simply use more organic matter to absorb the liquid and empty it more frequently. And use a lid on the toilet. Doing those will deal with most aroma issues. The other issue if of course, since none of these "composting toilets" for van size living will actually compost (as Bod said), is what to do with the waste once the bucket is full. Maybe that is a topic for another video. 🙂
I chose to get the Boxio for the form factor, and bag up every occurrence. The bolts that support the seat come loose repeatedly. I have taken to using Locktite to keep them on. The lid does not need to be tied on.
I've used a Nature's Head for 8 yrs and honestly, I use it like a bucket system. I don't like it and will be building a real bucket system for my tiny. I have also found that pine pellet animal pet bedding is the best for the cover/flush. Usually about $14.00 at feed stores.
Had been considering this. Use it for my cat litter! $6 and change for 50 pounds! (Get it from Tractor supply) Works great for my cat, bag lasts well over a month. Was considering it for human use, lol! But whats the best way so it doesn’t leak or get stinky? Sprinkle the litter in, do your unseparated business, the sprinkle more pine pellets ? Would it get, um, water logged? No free plastic bags here, would have to buy garbage bags or zip lock bags, preferably something leak proof! Thank you!
A five gallon bucket with bags a large car funnel adapted to the front end of the bucket with tubing into a jug in a wooden box makes a good composting potty with Peatmoss and no smell
Saw some folks who had a $1,000 composting (dry) toilet who only cleaned out the poop bucket once a month. It had a fancy crank that you turned after each deposit and a fan with a hose to the outside. Everybody I've seen with a similar toilet all say the urine bottle is WAY too small. Some folks who have gray tanks, plumb the pee to go directly. A self built system seems more manageable and I struggle to see how to spend more than $100 even using the fanciest parts. I'm a girl and I use a pee jar and bucket system. We use a board with a toilet seat on it, bags and animal bedding. We're only occasional van campers so we might change things if we go out for longer. Last gardening season, I found small "bricks" of coconut core that would make an excellent medium at the Dollar Tree. They're about the size of a tablet and puff up to the size of an actual brick after soaking in some water. I know they also make just the diverter and I've seen someone make a urine funnel for their bucket system. I think they just used a laundry jug to keep it in. That way no one can see when you take it somewhere to dump.
The nice thing about this separating toilet is that it has a separater, female here. I like the smaller poop container but alas I'm cheap so I will stick with my Trip Pick that is triple use in my minivan, foot stool, night stand, stool and toilet. When I purchased the Trip Pick it was cheaper than a 5 gallon bucket and the toilet lid. I use large Nutella plastic jars for pee. I like the UDT part but in the end it also takes up too much valuable real estate to justify it in the minivan. Thank you for taking the time to show us this toilet.
I've been using the Boxio for a year now. As a female I appreciate the urine diverter and ability to dump it in a near by flushing toilet or out in nature. It keeps me from having to go outside in the middle of the night. I spray the urine catching area with some Fabuloso and have no odors. The rubber plug is so it doesn't splash when you're driving. It has a separate solid screw on cap for when you're walking it out to dump it. He didn't read the instructions on how to route the cord, which say to leave it in one piece and thread it through both sides. I agree, the clips are junk. I also agree that it's really over priced for what you get but I had a bucket toilet and it doesn't travel well because It's round. I have a truck camper that doesn't have any great spots to tuck it away and the bucket was always rolling around when I got to camp. The Boxio being rectangular travels better. I can say I've never had to clean any poop but I don't normally have blow out poops. It can be a little uncomfortable in the back of the legs because of the pointy corners but other than that it works just fine for me and didn't cost $500 or more for essentially the same setup from a different brand.
Bucket and bag is the way to go. I've been using it in my house for 3 years with no smell, no problem. On another note - for cold weather, fill a mattress cover (the kind that keeps out all bugs) with straw for a mattress or duvet. My goats loved their straw bedding, and I do too! 1 bale for double, 1/2 bale for twin. The difference between misery and happiness in the cold.
I saw one nomad not too long ago using the five-gallon bucket, but he had bought his own diverter. I wish I knew who it was, can't remember that, but I can remember the diverter was only $45. And he used coconut core for the medium. So he really just made his own composting toilet, and that seems like a great way to have both your composting toilet AND (most of) your money!
Been living on wheels for 9 years. What I've found the best is what I have now. On Amazon they sell a "waterless" urinal. I routed that into my grey tank. I have a wooden box (the size of a bucket) that I #2 in and cover with a medium. Hope this helps!
If I had that kind of money for a top-end composting toilet, I'd spend 3X more to get a incinerator toilet (like Cinderella) instead and be done with the mess indefinitely. "Buy once, cry once" as they ARE expensive, but it's the cleanest way to go (!) and no hassle to dispose of & no harm to the environment as well. -- BR
I use small animal pelletized absorbant bedding. Sold at tractor supply. It's highly absorbant and knocks odor right out. No need to separate poop and urine. The pellets absorb all liquid. Bucket and bag for win.
I used a $4 bucket from Lowe’s/Home Depot and added the $15 toilet top from Walmart. We use bags for the solids, and I zip tied a $1 funnel to the bucket and have a container inside for the liquids. Funnel flips up and we can empty the liquids. We have a pop up shower tent from big 5 that was about $30.
Thanks. Good info. I used a C-Head on a sailboat. It was bigger but still sometimes had issues with splatter. Basically I got it for my wife. It needed a deep clean about every 5 or 6 weeks. My current sailboat has a lovely bucket in a wooden box and it does the job.
I got a sunmar gtg and it’s awesome. Very compact and it’s vented. Gotta have it vented. I use seed starter mix as the medium found at all big box stores. I also carry one brick of coco coir just encase I run out of seed starter.
As a German... The whole system is based on Euro-Boxes. These boxes are normed and available everywhere in Europe. They are stackable and interlock. Different sizes are still stackable. It's a beautiful system. Also in Germany the Boxio is just 130€. So half the price....
The OGO Nomad works well for us (1 guy, 1 woman) when we are living on the road. For $199, it's well-built and the bag covers everything it needs to! At our off-grid home, we have the $1000 Nature's Head, which, when compared to an $18k septic system, was a steal. It also works perfectly, but needs that vented fan. Thanks for the review. We thought about a Boxio, but are glad we went with the OGO.😀
I got my boxio on sale for 179.00. It's comfortable, practical (without the added base), and like that, I am composting. It's doesn't get gross or smell. I don't find it a hassle to clean with 1 wet wipe. It serves my needs, and I don't mind spending on things I like. Another pro is that it fits under my bed.
Thx for doing this review...have been following you for a long time & love it!!! For the bucket, I'd slice up a pool noodle and put it around the top of the bucket & roll the "bag" over that! ! I love comfortable seating..a squishie for the tushie!!! LOL Am the youngest of 6 biological & 4 cousins all raised by my parents who loved traveling and we all took many trips over the years! Locally, we'd often drive very early in the morning>late in the nite to Niagara Falls, ON/NY. My late hubby & I, along with our small family continued to do so...since his parents & a lot of our relatives lived in Alberta/Saskatchewan. Our 3 kids enjoyed it as well...taking our time visiting family/friends, but also the "sights" along the way! One very early morning, we experienced a phenomenal cattle drive in Sask, watching the Mommas & babies calling out & finally finding each other...and get to talk w/the cowboys!!! It was a wonderful experience and not easily forgotten even to this day!!! ;)
I compared the boxio and the Joolca toilet as they were in same price range, boy I'm glad I went with the Joolca Gotta Go. I wanted something that looked and felt like a regular toilet that I did not have to empty every day. I still made some alterations - like sticking a silicone funnel in the urine diverter (easier to clean and less splash) and I made some paper liners to use for the poo area so I did not need to clean it as the hole is kinda small. The height is perfect, seat is comfy, and I like the gauges that tell you when containers are full. There is also a sliding door that closes off the poop side. You get a lot for your money with the Joolca and I can see not much will go wrong with it.
Appreciate the review! I'd only choose a composting toilet system if I have a place to put the composting materials. Since I don't, I'll stick with a version of bucket, bottles, and bags.
I have a teardrop camper. It does have a shower / toilet. I choose to use a bucket as well. As a women, it's not a problem peeing in a bottle. No dump station stops. Simplicity is everything.
I brought my mom’s commode that folds flat and just put a liner and pad in it, wipes near it. It can double as a chair, with cushion and maybe a cute cover.
I have a flushable portable toilet but having to clean out the bottom part is a bit awkward and physically challenging. So I just use medium trash can liners in the top part. It just works easier for me to change out the liner each day. I got a patio deck box and set it on its side. The toilet almost fit perfectly and just used a hot needle knife to ever so slightly widen the opening so it can slide in easily. I added a thin slab of wood to the bottom for a level surface. I slide the toilet inside and clip the deckbox door closed with heavy rubber bungee cords that also secure the box to a wall. Also i made another smaller slab of wood with casters on it. It its perfectly on top of the toilet inside the box when not in use. I slide the toilet out onto it and move it to a good position for use. Being as old as I am and female you dont always have the luxury of going #1 and then #2 after. Sometimes its all at once so yes there can be odor. But the deckbox helps hide it and after use either air freshener spray or even better alittle incense and an open window takes care of that. Its a fairly comfortable height for my bad knees. And whenever I change the liner i clean the toilet and the inside of the lid and seat anyway just to cut down on any surface odor buildup. Also I covered the outside of the deckbox with some nice stickon tile and decor. It looks nice and adds alittle extra temporary counter space. I think altogether between the toilet and the deckbox and wood slabs and casters it maybe cost me about $150. It has worked out very well for me. I have an ambulance motorhome so maybe in a low roof vehicle it wont work but if you have the height to work with it could be a solution. Also being a bit full figured a round bucket just doesnt give me the needed seatsize and space to clean up properly.
I have a Jimmy's thunderbox and I bought just a urine diverter that I connect to an old 1.5 litre sauce bottle. I use a water and vinegar mix to spray the urine part after use, a garbage bag for the poo and coconut fibre. Easy to clean, cheaper, fairly compact, very comfortable to sit on.
Agreed, composting is silly, it takes several months to compost and you will "fill" it in a week or two. They have fans and stirrers, too expensive. I got the joolca, it's a little bigger, it's higher, it's solid. It has a chemical cassette, it has an excellent simple bag system. I haven't used #2 yet, might need to clean the bowl, I do it now, it's nor a problem. The urine doesn't have a stopper, I have used it, it doesn't smell, I spray the urine bowl or not, it doesn't stink. I love it compared to a bottle, if you go twice you can overfill a bottle. I have the boxes sink, it isxsimilar to the toilet you showed but I like it, small sink that does the job. The benefit of yhe two boxes systems is it is small and very portable, movable. Bucket is probably the most affordable
Very happy with my Trobolo composting toilet. Only $200. Pretty much the same design as the $375 Trelino. It has a nice leakproof cap for the urine container and fits nicely under my front bunks in my Scamp.
You can easily compost using 5 gallon buckets and expandable pine pellet bedding from Tractor Supply which is dirt cheap 8 bucks gets you a 40 pound bag. You dont need a diverter, you just lightly cover your mess with the pine pellets which makes everything smell way better ( like pine ) and when the bucket fills up you simply put a lid on it and set the bucket out in shed or a yard, wherever.. After 4-6 months it breaks down a lot and you simply do this cycling buckets and the cleaning is very minimal.. If youre off grid at your own homestead bags dont make as much sense, but on the road certainly the bag method is great... I saw the 5 gallon composting technique on Off Grid With Doug and Stacey and you can buy 20 buckets for less than half the price of this composting toilet.
I also use a composting toilet. I bought it in China. I think their toilet has a dry and wet separation function and can be used for a month after changing the base material. It is very convenient for me.
I got a 3d printed diverter that fits in a bucket... works like a charm, i spray the diverter with white vinegar after. Bags deployed inside the bucket, jug under the diverter and outside the bag, pool noodle for a comfortable sit 😂
We use a foldable toilet. bought on Temu $18, works well, about 14 inches tall, and 12 inch width/depth, came with bags and a carry case. Easy to clean and breakdown/set up. Also it is better for your elimination if you squat deeper/lower, less stress on your colon, heart etc.
The best thing to use in these toilets is horse stall pellets. They are made for absorbing poop and pee. A 40 pound bag is under 10 bucks and will last you a long time. I used them for many years for my horses stalls and while camping with the horses a friends discovered they were perfect for her composting toilet in her horse trailer. Now I see people using them all the time. Give them a try they are perfect for this.
I built a separating toilet: 5-gal bucket with a seat (a luggable Lou); automotive funnel because the $60 diverter I purchased did not do its job, 1/2 gal jug, plastic trash bags, and coconut coir (nothing else worked as well). I have made it taller for my knees with a couple boards. Less than $50 including the bags, etc.
I've used a bucket/bag/sawdust system in a desert homestead cabin for a few years. The seat lids snap off fairly easily but still function. Bags for in the trash, no worries. If I owned the property, I'd compost a la Humanure book.
Bob, I think you have the lid on upside down. At any rate, I have to agree, seems a lot of $ to me too! 5 Gallon bucket with pine pellets and line it with biodegradeable bag. That works!
Thank you for, honestly, mentioning that you use just a 5-gallon bucket with a trash can liner. I've been using that method for over 10 years now. I know there are a ton of expensive and gimmicky stuff out there being sold to campers, hikers, van dwellers, etc. My sincere opinion is that 90% of it is just a waste of money, I mean seriously. A bucket with a lid, a 3-month supply of trash bags (I use the black Hefty stretchy ones with the drawstrings) and I 3 month supply of medium (I use peat moss) will run you only $30-35. Trust me, skip the fuss, extra work and save your money and just use a bucket with trash bags, that's all you need. If you REALLY had to have something like this, it wouldn't be too difficult to make something similar at the slightest fraction of the cost. If you just have way more money than you can handle and need to spend it on whatever, then by all means, by all the gimmicky stuff, but it's really not necessary at all. **EDIT: Just to expand on separating the poop from the urine for a minute. Men can just urinate anywhere that's convenient, no problem. Women can just urinate in a second bucket, then dump it out wherever and rinse it out at your convenience. Now, I will say, there are plenty of cases when I don't need to urinate, UNTIL I sit down to go poop, but guess what? I little urine in the poop bucket occasionally doesn't hurt a thing, as long as you're not peeing in your poop bucket several times a day. Just do what Bob says and put a couple scoops of medium into your bucket and COVER your waste with a layer of medium each time you go and you're golden. A minimal bit of urine will not matter. Trust me, been doing it for years now, it's really not that complicated.
Recommend everyone use ANSI/NSF Standard 41 when discussing these toilets. Would you please address the disposal of your sewage bag vs. liquid-separating toilet pee container and poo bag. Your bag in a can is sewage (liquid-saturated waste system), and you must dispose in a public toilet or dump station. The liquid-separating toilet is a non-liquid saturated system. We would rather dispose of the urine in a public toilet than dealing with the sewage. We dispose of the poo bag in accordance with local ordinances. Our toilet is the Trevino Evo-L, and we are happy with the design, construction, and usability. We’ve been using the Trelino for over a year. Thanks for sharing your Boxio experience.
When I use a public restroom I will use the urinal at least 19 times out of 20 when I go in. I will be building a box truck into a living space about a year from now and I am contemplating installing a cheap plastic urinal without dedicating space to a toilet. And for a toilet I will be using the collapsible toilets which are the bucket which when rotated collapses down into the shape of a large frisbee (a good one will sell for $30). Currently for #1 on camping trips I have an empty laundry detergent bottle (which was yellow so it's my yellow tank). I have seen a car campers channel where he admitted to using a large lemonade bottle for this purpose. Men don't need to buy the cheap purpose built urinal containers. For women Amazon sells female urinals for under $20 and they can easily be emptied into a larger yellow tank. There is no reason nomads should be spending $1,000 on a urine diverting toilet.
What makes the BOXIO so worthwhile even though yeah it's just a plastic box, is -- that gasket for the urine tank, the whole design, not just of separating the urine from the poop, but of keeping it sealed so no odor escapes. Or slops out when you drive over a culvert in the middle of the road. 👍
We made our own urine diverter out of fiberglass for our 5 gallon bucket system. Double 13 gallon bags with cedar shavings. We built an airtight box for the system. Works great, no odor, very cheap. Need building skills though
I bought a foldable travel toilet on Amazon for around $35 . Looks similar to this one except it doesn't have the diverter. Waste goes into a small trash can. They make compostable bags and you just throw some compost medium, such as saw dust, wood shavings, etc. Either bury or throw in dumpster. A lot easier to maintain than always having to find a dump station, water, dragging out the stinky slinky, making a mess (yuk) , etc. Im renovating my little 21ft class c and took out my toilet because it wouldn't stop smelling. I found out that the toilet that came with it had been "secretly " recalled and i contacted them. They actually sent me an upgraded dometic toilet for free and i still have it here in the box because im not sure that i want to use it anymore. I like the portable toilet. Not sure if i should sell it or put it in the rv. My bathroom is obviously very small and i have more room in there if i keep the portable one in the shower area instead of the floor space. What would y'all do?
"I don't want to clean poop off that. That's just not something I enjoy in life,"!!!! 😂😂😂 What an excellent start to a video!!!
High priority in my list when looking for a toilet in a van!
***PSA to Nomads*** Borax 20 Mule in your pee bottle. 4 tbsp per gallon. No more smell!
For those of you who try this, you're welcome.
Tea tree oil works very well. A few drops and some water and a shake, poof, smells nice.
How about not even using a pee bottle and just using horse pellets / pine pellets ?
If it can dehydrate a 1200 lbs animal's waste almost instantly, It would probably work for a human as well.
PSA TO NOMADS.. FROM RETIRED TRUCK DRIVER... a quarter cup of fabulousso in the bottom of your gallon P jug and there won't be any smell...
Great tip, will keep that in mind, thanks!
My pee bottle doesn't smell. I empty it when it gets full. Rinse it out with water too.
It is so incredibly easy to make one of these-one that is better in every way. It's embarrassing that anyone would charge so much for this.
I will go bucket n bag
Me too
I’m using a collapsible toilet, it cost about the same as that se seats for the bucket. Saves space but effectively works the same way (with liners).
@@Matt_on_life same here.
Me too. Works great!@@Matt_on_life
Try the horse pellets / pine pellets along with the bucket and bag. It dries everything out, there is no smell, your van wont be a biohazard like ALL VEHICLES with a "composting " toilet that doesn't compost anything.
$250 for that is a rip off. But I appreciate the honest review.
It's over $450.00 in canada. Trashy.
😂
Why not get some appropriate Parts and 5 gallon bucket, coco coir, and assemble, add coco coir. Plastic bags are a must if your full
X RVer I guess - only way.
Exactly! I don’t think it’s worth the money, I was disappointed when I got mine
Yeah, just use a bucket...
We love you, Bob! You're a spectacularly genuine person. Entirely authentic. Amusing video. Bag-in-bucket for me.
Exactly. Who needs all the expensive gimmicky stuff anyway? I think some people who are new to the lifestyle make things too complicated and tend to get sucked into all that stuff. Eventually, they will get tired of losing money/time and learn the easier ways.
I’ll stick with my bucket
Reliance Fold-to-Go is the way imo
That's the one I wanted but I couldn't afford it and had to settle for a boxio. The boxio is fine for me.
I love my Trelino EVO
I’m in a class C and I pulled the flush toilet out and replaced it with the Trelino.
As a senior female with bladder issues, this toilet is great for me and easy to use and clean. I wipe the urine area with TP and vinegar
I have the same toilet and I agree. I use Lysol wipes for occasional cleanup. I love my Trelino
5-gallon bucket for the win!!!
Since I'm nearing my 70's I think I'll pass on doing a deep squat to sit on a milk crate....I could do it, but I would need somebody to help get me up! Knees don't appreciate squatting at my age!
The Jacool is normal height.
I think it's a "use it or lose it" type of thing, plenty of 70 year olds on the planet can hang out in the deep squat, but they've been doing it their whole lives. I guess that's motivation for me to keep squatting.
"You should see the dorcor..." lol I laughed so hard! 😅

My favorite line in this post 😅
So did I! 😂😂
😂😂😂
I have one and I love it. As a woman having the diverter is worth a quick wipe after use.
Used my Trelino now for a couple of years and will never willingly go back to a bucket.
Cat litter, bucket and bag works for me.🙀
I use pine pellets for cat liter. Urine dissolves the pellets with no scent. Light compared to used kiter.
Super cheap at Home Depot (40 lbs under 8$).
Wonder if it could be used for that?
@@christina3521 We use pine pellets for urine in a 5-gallon bucket. It works well. We call it the "Pine Forest."
Bob, you really are a national treasure. You made me laugh out loud so many times in this video.
Bucket and trash bag is better, let them keep that lol
Easy breezy, gift wrap it, off to the dumpster 😊
Agreed. I made one out of a box. I find the diverter to be annoying, though.
I think i would use black zip ties for the lid.
Thank you
I have a Trelino and it works well but I find it difficult to empty the urine container because of the shape. The Boxio is the same shape-there is a rim around the hole and the urine doesn't flow out completely, some always remains. While I like it, I am looking for a better option
@@mep4488 I wanted the Trelino but couldn't afford it, so I went with the BOXIO. I have no problem with it.
Only you can cover this topic so detailed and entertaining!
Every product review on this channel always gets a proper demonstration. This should be no exception…
Love the honesty.
Thank You Bob, great review.🙏👍🇺🇲
Thanks, Santa. Enjoy your journey next week.
I will keep my hassock potty thanks, $35. I love it!
Thank you for the honest review
I could see the “quality” as soon as you removed it from the box.
biodegradable bags + pine litter is a much simpler solution and nothing to clean but your butt!
Thanks for the honest review. I never understood the hype.
😅😂 ur funny on some of these videos keep it up bob wonderful job
I travel with my cats and have pine pellets for their litter. I use this to absorb and give a bit of odor help for my waste too.
Have been using bucket/bags for over a year in my shed conversion. Love it! Glad I didn't 'splurge' on one of those expensive toilets.
This is my vote for video of the year, well done Bob 😂😂 I don't clean poop either. Bucket or bust! 🎉🎉
👍👍👍
Great review, Bob. Your way with words is magnificent!😊
Bucket and bag is best. Store it in a container enclosure that is vented outside and you are golden.
Great info as always Bob! Safe travels!
Great information Brother 😊
Great video, thanks for sharing! I was wondering about these
Thanks for the informative video Happy holidays❤
Thx for doing this review...have been following you for a long time & love it!!! For the bucket, I'd slice up a pool noodle and put it around the top of the bucket & roll the "bag" over that! ! I love comfortable seating..a squishie for the tushie!!! LOL
Am the youngest of 6 biological & 4 cousins all raised by my parents who loved traveling and we all took many trips over the years!
Also seems like joolca s better too, aesthetically too
Appreciate the review! I'd only choose a composting toilet system if I have a place to put the composting materials. Since I don't, I'll stick with a version of bucket, bottles, and bags.
Thanks Bob for an excellent review on this boxio composting toliet.
I was wondering about the boxio, thanks for saving me the $$!!
I have a teardrop camper. It does have a shower / toilet. I choose to use a bucket as well. As a women, it's not a problem peeing in a bottle. No dump station stops. Simplicity is everything.
Thanks Bob! Another informative video!
Trelino for the win.
Joolca has one out now that looks nice, you should get your hands on one and review it. Thanks for all you do Bob.
Looks like an egg/milk crate with dollar store items. $250 dollars for $20 items 😂, waste.
My bucket is composting. I use composting plastic bags and natural, organic covering. It will decompose in the landfill
I spray out my urine diverter every use. I would rather use a bucket with bags. Grocery bags are usually available 'free'.
Except in Colorado
@@RetiredFreeBird messed up rules in colorado. haha
You can also buy a diy kit to make a 5 gallon bucket into a separating toilet.
Do a vid of “slinging” in trash techniques w/plastic sack.
Yeah right?
So can I ask where you dispose your buckets or bags?
@@LadyLsound bags, go in dumpster
Bob, thank you for the review. I was actually considering that exact toilet. 👍🏻
@hikinginjeans3221 You dispose of bags in the same place you dispose of diapers...in the trash.
Hello from Puerto Rico Bob and friends
Great and helpful information. Y😊
Great video Bob 👍
