  • The newly unveiled 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e arguably takes the crown as BMW’s best SUV across the entire range. BMW X5 xDrive50e brings quite a few changes in the aesthetics department, both inside and out, including new headlights and taillights, iDrive 8.5, a curved display and more.
    The 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e uses an upgraded inline-six, 3.0-liter gasoline engine (B58) paired with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox. Together, they produce an impressive 483 hp, a substantial increase of 94 hp compared to its predecessor, with torque climbing by 73 lb-ft to 516 lb-ft.
    But does the extra power make a difference in day-to-day driving? We went to South Carolina to find out, so let's take a look!

    Best X5 or best BMW today?

    very cool car. That in upscaled quality and sound insulation would be a great Rolls
    But no physuical buttons is a safety risk! I tested this and it was not good to try to get something with the touch screen on highway and i hate voice commands

    Great review. The 50e has issues with tire noise resonance but it is easily fixed by putting on a control arm vibration absorber that BMW specs on the M50/60 but for some reason left off the 50e.

    Great review and thank you for sharing!! Just to share, in 2020, I ordered a fully loaded 2021 X5 45e in the USA for my granddaughter. Back then, we were able to get the Acoustic Windows, Cool and Heated Cup Holder, B&W Diamond Sound System, M-Style Seat Belts, and Carbon Fiber trim. Moving forward from 2021 to 2024, BMW USA decided to mess with the Americans and the American market and eliminated many features and options not only on the X5, X6, and X7 but also on the new 2024 i5 M60. The frustration is that all BMW SAVs are built in the USA in South Carolina, but we don't get much anymore. If you want all the features, options, and cool stuff, you can go to Canada, Europe, Majority of Asian, and Middle Eastern countries. Just on the i5 M60, we, in the USA, do not get the M-Style Seat Belts, we do not get the Comfort Seats (headrest and leg extenders are manual), we do not get the Massage Seats, and the Soft-Close Doors. Across the line, BMW USA has short-changed us in the USA. For those who are BMW enthusiasts and loyal to the brand, those are the ones who are upset, disappointed, and frustrated. On almost every platform I read or watch, at cars and coffee, and other BMW events I have attended you can easily see the anger from the enthusiast. In my opinion, if BMW USA continues to ignore and/or discriminate, many will go to the competitor.

    • @bmwblog

      I wonder why they eliminated so many features. Take rate or supply issues?

      @@bmwblog Horacio, I do not believe that supply and demand is the issue anymore. For the most part, all vehicle manufacturers are up to speed and running smoothly. I think BMW USA is trying to be sneaky about their approach to the US market, and now people are caught up with their games.
      In December 2020, when went to the BMW dealership to special order my granddaughter’s 2021 BMW X5 45e, she wanted her SAV in Dravit Gray. The dealer sent the request to BMW NA and requested allocation. BMW NA rejected the paint and said they did not paint Dravit Gray on any 2021 X5 models. My granddaughter and her fiancé were able to find 11 2021 BMW X5 in Dravit Gray on UA-cam that were available for sale in Canada, Dubai, Turkey, United Kingdom, Germany, France, China, India, and Singapore to name a few. We printed those articles and provided the UA-cam links to our dealership to pass on to BMW USA. BMW USA and sent to the dealership. BMW NA and BM USA refused to acknowledge the email. After 4 follow-ups, BMW NA realized that they were caught in a lie so they changed their position and said that Dravit Gray was not tested color for US weather. Yet, as you know, all X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, and the controversial XM are built and manufactured in the USA. More interestingly, Dravit Gray was being painted on all other BMW vehicles for US sales. I think BMW thought we were either idiots or stupid. In order not to destroy my granddaughter’s experience we moved on.
      For some reason, all markets and regions still get the Luggage Package, 4-zone real climate control, Cool and Heated Cup Holders, M-style seatbelts, Carbon Fiber trim, soft-close doors, and B&W Diamond sound system on their X5 40i, but US. Even on your 50e and M60, we can’t get any of them. Just recently they only added soft-closed doors. They just eliminated M-style seatbelts for the X7 M60. Even cheap luxury cars like Honda, Lexus, Acura, and Toyota have 4-zone climate control as standard on their SUVs. For a luxury BMW line that may cost around $100K is embarrassing and disappointing. I highly recommend that you try the massage seats on Mercedes, Acura MDX, and Lexus. They are phenomenal.
      Let’s look at i5 M60 for example. Any reviews and videos you see on UA-cam from around the world, all i5 M60s have M-style seatbelts, full contour comfort seats, 4-zone digital rear climate control, massage seats, and soft-close doors. The US is the only market that doesn’t get any of these. I was recently at a BMW CCA event in Southern California, and the theme was very sad. Nowadays people have quick access to see what these cars truly look like and when it comes to the US, people feel they are being discriminated against. The i5 M60 is supposed to be the “M” car of electric models. Instead, people get regular seatbelts, manual headrests, and leg extenders, there is no side bolster, no rear digital 4-zone climate control, etc. It looks plain, unfinished, and cheap.
      I think people like you can have a positive influence and can wake up the BMW NA and BMW USA. I don’t think they really know what is going on or they just don’t care. Many enthusiasts are very upset.

      Very different cars. Actually we're about to publish the iX review and we talked about that. But the bottom line is this: you can tell that the iX is an EV. From ride quality to power. The X5 is still a gasoline-based car

    Decent review, but you didnt really go over how the hybrid works or even know the range. Also, that is not a leather interior. That is the silverstone "senasfin" vinyl interior. I just bought a 24 50e. Its up to 40 miles pure electric. I have been driving back and forth to work on only electric. Nice omega speedmaster racing! I have the same watch.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  7 місяців тому +2

      No time for an actual range test plus we drove it in a dynamic manor, versus trying to be efficient. And you're right, it's not leather, felt like one though which is great.

    • @tommccawley
      @tommccawley 6 місяців тому +1

      I also just got a 50e and have been able to drive to work totally on the electric and even keep it charged with just the level 1 charger (120v) it comes with by leaving it charging overnight, but I have a short commute. Will be getting a level 2 (240v) charger because anything beyond about 10-12 miles a day and the level 1 won't keep up.
      The Sensafin is great and a significant improvement over the previous Sensatec. I can't really tell the difference between it and the real leather I had in my 335i. The question is how well it will hold up as the leather held up for 15 years with only area in the back under the rear window having an issue.

    I’ve watched every X5 45e/50e video and none ever test the 0-45 or 0-60 in pure electric mode. Why not?! If someone is interested in this car they are planning to use the electric mode most of the time.

  • @tomasvaitkus7866
    @tomasvaitkus7866 5 місяців тому +1

    Unfortunately, the X5 50e is completely unsuitable if there is no possibility to charge it at home/office. You won't wait 4.5 hours at a fast charging station for full charge. Would order this, but it no longer supported preset battery charge level while driving.

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  5 місяців тому

      This is likely for people who have a charger at home and at office. No point to use a fast charger since it doesn't fast charge

    Having owned 3 generations of X5 now (E70, F15, G05) i really like my new 50e, however build quality has steadily got worse with each new generation. The G05 is a bit of a rattle trap quite honestly. Pretty disappointing.

    Electric engine makes 194, and total 483? so the inline 6 makes less than 300hp? how is that right? if the battery is dead, wouldn't this car be slow AF?

    • @bmwblog
      @bmwblog  7 місяців тому

      It doesn't work like that, the battery pack always has a buffer

    • @tommccawley
      @tommccawley 6 місяців тому +1

      The engine is the same 375 hp as in the 40i. For some reason both gas engine and electric motor together don't produce the 569 hp (194 + 375) you would think from just adding their hp. But as @bmwblog noted, it always maintains some juice in the battery to provide a boost during acceleration. I've had my 50e for about 2 weeks and it feels comparable to my old 335i. I drive in Hybrid mode and the gas engine comes in so fast and seamlessly when I need to accelerate hard it is like it is on all the time even though it isn't.
