CONSTITUTION HILL lands second Christmas Hurdle in facile fashion

- National Hunt superstar Constitution Hill made a perfect return to action when strolling to victory in the Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.
Winning the race for the second season in succession, Nicky Henderson’s charge was sent off the 1-12 favourite taking on just four rivals.
This ended up being his first race of the season after plans to run him in the Fighting Fifth, originally at Newcastle and then in the rearranged version at Sandown, were spoiled by the weather.
While that may have given his rivals some hope he was a little behind schedule, those thoughts were soon banished.
Paul Nicholls’ Rubaud set the pace and Harry Cobden tried to wind it up before the turn for home, but Nico de Boinville was sat in his slipstream.
He pulled Constitution Hill out to challenge on the run to the second-last and the champion hurdler absolutely flew it, taking two lengths out of Rubaud and immediately putting the race to bed.
He was allowed to cruise home for a nine-and-a-half-length win, with Coral subsequently trimming him to 1-3 from 2-5 to retain his Champion Hurdle title in March.
Henderson said: “Everybody wants to see what he is, and as Nico says you couldn’t fail to be impressed as he is such an exciting thing to sit on as he goes so fast.
“I’ve not seen one jump better, that’s the great secret to all these good two-milers, and we have been very lucky over the years going way back when with See You Then, and then Binocular, Epatante and Buveur D’Air - it is the way they get from A to B.
“We had this discussion in the summer to jump fences, but what was there to be gained by doing it. He is very good at this. Is an Arkle and a Champion Chase going to change anybody’s life?"

Unbelievable horse. I know everyone goes on about how slick he is over his hurdles but Jesus he’s like a cheat code it’s ridiculous. He has everything.
Agree
@@timcomley5948 Me too.
His balance and footwork at speed over the hurdles is just brilliant it's like he's light on his.feet for a big animal. Amazing horse
Lossiemouth will do him
@@drsteelhammer4056 so you think Lossiemouth, a 5 year old mare, is at least a 180 rated hurdler?
Wow He's Just Magnificent
best hurdler I ever seen absolutely awesome unbeatable
Congratulations Michael Buckley, Nicky Henderson, Nico de Boinville and the great Constitution Hill. Best of luck in the Champion Hurdle.
Six years old and hardly been off the bridle. Ridiculous. He could conceivably still be this good when he is 9, in three years time. Fingers crossed, because it’s an animal of a lifetime
Unbelievable horse 🐎 that was amazing to watch.. he's a one in a million.
We love superstar horses
The Frankel of jump's 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Yesss beautifully typed 😂😂😂❤
Great to see this hurdling phenomenon back with an effortless seasonal pipe opener. They've all got their work cut out to lower his colours this season.
None of them get anywhere near him constitution hill wins however much nico wants.
Nothing ever going to beat that horse he is the GOAT;
Yeah nothing will cos he races against donkeys
no just eyes.@@terrytownsend5583
Istabraq 3 champion hurdles and 15 grade ones, they won't run constitution hill long enough to ever get near istabraq
@@Myles-Sherlockplz don't tell me U think if they could actually race u think beat Ch never in a million years.
When the beast won at Cheltenham in March nico apologised to punters who backed 10 lengths or more. Won by 9. Yesterday 9 and half. Show us how good the beast is really Nico ❤
Constitutional Hill and Mr. Nicky Henderson can breathe a sigh of relief!! He had no worries!! These are two Living Legends in our midst!!
Weirdo.
Like Irish horses are always in tight fields? Fact is that the horse only has to go to Cheltenham to see if anything can give him a race.
That's @@stevelee4952 You see?? It doesn't matter!! The Best Horse won!! Mr. Henderson is elated!! The Owner or Owners are excited!! And people like Myself and others, had him to win!! It doesn't matter what odds that he went off!! HE STILL WON!! At least, we aren't throwing away tickets!!
May i just say this! Im seeing another frankel sort of horse, one in a million, constitution hill will defiently be going down in history once he retires as one of the greatest 😮
Accelerating away like a Bentley Continental GT cruising and purring from the 2nd last. 🎉
I am old enough to remember Persian War, Night Nurse etc. This fella is up there with them already, trust me
Best hurdler since colin jackson.
6 runs and only rated 6lb behind the great night nurse, absolute monster , im guessing constitution hill will hit at least 184 going at this rate perhaps higher, how lucky i feel to have seen frankel and this horse in my lifetime, potentially the greatest in a generation
3 champion hurdles would make him one of the gr8s. 4 champion hurdles make him the GOAT.
If he never ran again after today, he is still one of the greats.
Could be done
A horse doesn't need 3 champion hurdles to be considered a great.
This horse is exceptional and the reason why many say its never beaten much is because no trainer has anything than can get within 10l of it. The greatest I've seen in over 50 years.
This horse is something else. Nico has never had to pick up his whip in any of his races, he makes it all look so effortless. Hands and heels every time. Would love to see him really challenged one day but by who??
Exactly, no one at the moment 🏇🏇🤷♂️🤷♂️
Your mum would give him a race
Hewick!
@@jarvsie if they did race it would be 20 lengths behind on a good day and 50 plus on a bad. Plus one is a chase one is a hurdler. If you are saying hewick because of the gold cup race today you dont understand racing. Hewick looked good because shishkin bravemansgame and allaho all challenged for the lead and ran at an incredably fast speed. They all basically ran the race out of each other and hewick sat back and outstayed them. Nothing to do with speed.
@@jarvsie😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That jump at the 2nd last is blink and you will miss it - this horse just seems to find a stride when there looks like none and he's over the hurdle and landed running before anything else can process it.
Once again the further into the race they go the better he travels and wins looking like it's running at half-pace.
God sent champion the best seen on the planet Constitutional Hill sweet he is 😊
There are levels and hes levels above everything 🏇🏇👍👍fact
Wow!!!
Machine !!
If this horse hadn't been beaten it would be the Frankel of the jumps just does the business so effortlessly
He hasn't been beaten under rules. If he wins another Champion Hurdle I think he can be the jumps Frankel. He has the talent to win by half the track and I think it takes something like that to get the general publics attention
Has to run more than 3-4 times each season; is he made of glass? Istabraq ran 8 times in one season, Monksfiled/Night Nurse/Sea Pigeon rocked up everywhere
Serious animal, beast of an engine but there are others with big engines but the thing is they can't jump like this boy, very fast
Fantastic horse but the naive cynics just like to moan.
The way he hurdles is just so effortless
Wins the lot this year. Chasing next year surely. With the way he jumps the hurdles he could be unbelievable over fences
How would you go chasing he s a born hurdler and if stays sound will win the next 3 C Hurdles
Hope they never take him over jumps, it would be a total betrayal of the horses trust and a left turn into the greedy lane that has lead to the injury and destruction of so many great horses just because some humans " want to get to the bottom of a horse/ challenge him " not realising that every injury free race over hurdles is a gift and a priviledge given the basic fragility of even the best horses. Constitution hill has NO sense of self preservation - its up to his owners and trainer to provide that for him.
Didn't need to get out of 2nd gear...beast.
What a horse, he barely tried
Good ole get your big head onTv dave yates lurking in the background again. He must spend his day looking for the cameras
Nice race gallop; did what he had to, almost effortlessly.
Not his fault the competition is poor in the 2m hurdle division.
I think the only way he'll face any serious competition is if they decide to try him on the Flat......and sadly I don't think they will.
How we wish they would allow more favs to win ,like it used to be over the jumps back in the day ,when it used to be seasonal flat in summer bent as fk always ,but when it came around October and jumps season started you had ,a chance to win quite often I know I did it there was a time I wouldn't bet throughout ,the flat season it was so way out but these days there's nothing between ,flat and jumps both full of deception were if you bet regularly, you can't win nobody wins it's gone much worse ,since people can lay favs to lose .
How many stone would have to be given away for this horse to lose?
Make no mistake the horse that finished 2nd is a very very good hurdler just ridiculous from Constitution Hill
Yeah gotta love cobden he rides with so much passion. Rubaud will win group ones but just not with con in his races
The scary thing is he was all out in second. CH could have beat him 20-30 lengths if Nicko even half turned the screw
HAS to go the to the Dublin festival. If he doesn’t connections are just wasting this horse in fields like this.
Would imagine Punchestown more likely than the DRF, but yes, you're correct. Go to Punchestown after Cheltenham, give Aintree a miss. Let's see if NH has the balls to do it.
@@johnwilliams575 ha! We both know he’s not going to bother. Wasting the horse completely by playing it safe year in year out, should be wanting to challenge it and take on the Irish races.
@@JPwhoknowsIf the Irish were good enough they would come over to the UK and take the 🐐 on but none are in the same league. FACT.
@@Zarkava8 nope. Connections are reluctant to take him over to Ireland, they’d rather play it safe. If they weren’t they be taking him to the Dublin festival for the grade 1 there
Because they know he’s unbelievable, he beat jonbon a distance and he’s fav for the champion chase

And it is not just that he beat these today, but HOW he beat them. He looked like he was on the way down to the start pre-race as he crossed the line.
@@seanscanlon9067 yes most are avoiding him- you can only beat what is set out in your path. It unfortunately doesn’t help history as in a few years when we try to judge and rate him, we say how good was he as he basically beat nothing, the only viable contenders swerved him. I understand that owners and trainers want money but modern racing lacks that chancing ones arm that was so dominant in the 1960’s. Look at Arkle, they ran him in handicaps conceding 2stone plus.We don’t see that in the modern sport

What like Vauban was going to beat it on the bridle last seasons you looney tune.
Not really impressed to be honest. The winnning margins are getting less and less since this race last year. The jockey is too scared to move up to the next gear. Atleast let him show off somewhat.
The aim is to win the race, not to make the horse buzzy to 'show off' the horse.
Brainless comment, sure Nicky and Nico know better than you
Why win by more that 10 lengths? No point all that does is pad his hurdles rating. What he needs is a decent opponent he took the piss out of state man who was his biggest challenge . Still on the bridle wins by 10+ is ridiculous..
Why risk going faster and potentially risk making a jumping error when you don't need too? Doesn't matter if he wins by 1 length or 100 lengths - just needs to be controlled to a win
@@morafiq73 I also suspect jessicadawson is unaware about weights, cos you need to win by as little as possible to avoid getting too much additional weight if you run in handicaps. Not that Constitution Hill runs in handicaps.
This is probably one of the most rigged races I’ve seen, a undefeated champion remains undefeated at a big price of 1/11.

When will Constitution Hill run against El Fabiolo though it is known the Hill will win but by how far ?
Constitution Hill is a hurdler with his Cheltenham target being the Champion Hurdle, whereas El Fabiolo is a novice chaser with the Arkle Chase as his Cheltenham target, so the likelihood is they never meet unless El Fabiolo as an issue with chasing in the future and reverts to hurdles.

@@Martin.Lewis.. OK fair enough and I hold my hands up that I cocked up there, seeing as El Fabiolo was a novice chaser this calendar year (albeit last NH season) and has already won the Arkle, so will presumably be going for the Queen Mother next year/this NH season.
The main point of my post though was that Constitution Hill is a hurdler and El Fabiolo is a chaser, so perhaps I should have just left it at that.
