    Cool and great stuff-----Two of the ALL TIME greats in American music.

    Very cool! The two admired each other, and Jack DeJohnette has explained that his drumming on some parts of "Live-Evil" came about when Miles played some tracks on the Band of Gypsies album and hinted that he wanted him to play something like a Buddy Miles groove, but with his jazz approach. Of course John McLaughlin was a sometime member of Miles' band around this time, but it was great to hear what kind of sounds Jimi might have come up with.

      Thanks Louise - I'm interested in the Jack DeJohnette quote which I hadn't heard before!

    Miles was working with Jimi,teaching him Jazz and theory.He said that he picked up on it very quickly.Too bad it never went further cuz Jimi needed another scene outside of the hard rock world.

    • @StephenGodsall
      @StephenGodsall  7 місяців тому +6

      Very true - it think they could have helped each other combine jazz and electronic music and that would have been dynamite!

    • @marksmith842
      @marksmith842 5 місяців тому

      I agree that they would have fed of each other but to categorize Jimi as hard rock is misleading, his favorite works for me are Poly Gap, hey baby. My father played double bass and exposed to Jazz as a child in the UK

      You're making up your own narrative. The only association with Miles when Jimi was alive was Miles in music magazine interviews. For a year and a half, when Miles was asked who was on his turntable he said Jimi Hendrix.

    • @GodSpeed-eo9pc
      @GodSpeed-eo9pc 2 місяці тому

      Miles used modes so there's not much to teach, only practice

    • @GodSpeed-eo9pc
      @GodSpeed-eo9pc 2 місяці тому

      Point being, if Miles taught Jimi, which I sincerely doubt because I read Miles’ autobiography, he would have just told Jimi how to use modes in place of scales.

    This is ridiculously creative my friend!!!!! Where did you get the isolated trumpet sounds??

    • @StephenGodsall
      @StephenGodsall  7 місяців тому +3

      It took a lot of doing, hence the use of granular synthesis and vocoder - literally hundreds of sources!

    This is wild
    I dig it
    It truly is like a jam session
    Jimi holding down; a anchor; with recognizable riffs
    And Miles riffing on top
    With Jimi philosophy about music 🎶 and his approach
    Peace ☮️ n serenity

    This really works. It's a little disjointed in places, but I think that actually adds to the appeal, knowing that it's fabricated. It's sort of like listening to (them) work out new ideas in real time.

    I think Hendrix was very much like John Coltrane both in spirit and musical expression. Hendrix would sometimes introduce himself on the electric saxophone. I always wondered if this was an homage to Coltrane.
