Well, I put 5/8" Dow Board on my house, wrapped and taped all seams on the house and then used Alside un-insulated vinyl siding. Well, its been 14 years, no chalking and joints are PERFECT since I had a phenomenal installation team. It was also rated for high wind.
Nice job, Guru! The finest of all of the insulated sidings is Craneboard from Exterior Portfolio by Crane. He has a unique water management system, and it also features the new Neopor material from BASF. It insulates better than all other competitors available currently.
Great video. Have had contractors in for JamesHardie and LP SmartSide. After watching your video and other research I am probably going to go with inslulated vinyl siding. Thanks again.
Jerry, did you end up going with the insulated vinyl siding and are you happy with it? We are at a crossroads of what to put on our house but like the idea of the insulated vinyl siding. Most of our siding will be paid for due to a hail storm we had last year but going with the insulated vinyl it will cost us an additional $12,426 out of pocket. I want to make sure we are going to like it.
no matter what siding you do, get the drop in from progressive foam. the prodigy is just glued. progressive will foam back anything. then just wrap the house with ammo wrap first, no matter what your going to get water behind the siding thats why they have weep holes, most installers dont want to do it cause its more work. but to bad its a better install.
Good video. Couple of questions for you. Does the insulated vinyl provide any additional sound dampening vs hollow siding? I am wondering if it would dampen out jet noise a little bit. Also, is the insulated siding similar in overall thickness to hollow siding? I am thinking about installation around doors and windows. Thanks!
We offer hollow back and insulated vinyl siding to all of our siding customers and I would say 80% pick the more energy efficient insulated vinyl siding. so I completely agree with what you are saying.
Good video. But even siding with insulation behind it want straighten out very old and wavey houses so you should correct these problems before putting the siding on. And a material like tyvek will insulate your house better than any foam product. Use it with the foam backing. Sorry about my spelling but I'm tired and a little tipsy .lol this is a very good an informative video though. He knows what he's talking about.
Very well done. You seem to be a very good sales guy. To me, it would seem that 4 x8 panels of say 3/4 foam board with the vinyl siding nailed over it would be better from a efficiency stand point. Reason being, that I believe it would provide a better seal to the envelope of the house keeping air conditiooned air from escaping.
your absolutely right it does their has been many scientific papers written on this issue rotting houses. Don't use insulated vinyl their is no need for it
@@lgonzalez1154 yes you are right, the fanfold backer board has little holes so it breathes, this stuff is glued on doesn't breathe. Years ago in New England they used Styrofoam backer board with tinfoil covering , had to discontinue, houses weren't breathing people were getting sick!
Do you need to allow the windows to stick out beyond the surface of the sheathing farther with the insulated vinyl as opposed to the normal unbacked vinyl siding.? Thank you....
@ImportMafia Have you considered painting the brick? I like an almond color for the brick and a canyon clay for the vinyl siding color, I think that will pull out the colors in the Summer Harvest roof nicely.
My question on this insulated backed siding would be does it stand up to impact better, hail, rocks from mowers, and so on? Seems that with the insulation behind the vinyl, the insulation would help to absorb the energy of the impact better than loose/unsupported vinyl like the white house.
I have a 14x61 foot mobile home with screwed on metal siding. Can that insulated vinyl siding can go over the metal or do I have to unscrew the metal siding? Is this siding available in Michigan?
Tom Hayward how has that been working for you and how much did it cost? I'm out for 2 things. Something to sturdy my mobile home from high winds and something that rats can not chew thru because I live by a lot of woods n lots of rats in neighborhood. I'm desperate because my trailor is old and seems to be trying to collapse with high winds n fighting monster rats that chews into trailer so I want something that goes from the ground to the roof as much as possible. I have to move fast n I'm very poor.
this guy is one good sales man he not sale pitching nothing he telling like it is and like a boss like that they need to give him a raise ty for the up load i wont to putt siding on my mobil home does this mean it make it be warmer to case that new kind of siding
My brick is an ugly, very light red, pink-ish salmon color on the 1st story.. I have white aluminum now (2nd story) and want to change my siding to perhaps take away from the ugly brick color. What do you recommend? (OC Summer Harvest shingled roof) - thanks!
I dropped a WAD of $ on this product for current home project.. and was glad to pay the premium price.. but you should see the butcher job the contractor has done installing it! It is unbelievable. A mighty litigious skirmish is about to commence.
@newburyportvideo why is the insulated panel so short. nice deception of how the panels realy perform. take the hollow panel and cut half of it off and hold it out!!!!
I run a siding company, I've used structure siding (foam back siding) a few times and we were not very impressed with this product. It does not float over bumps in the wall very easy. It acts the same as traditional siding, its not that special. I suggest foam sheets and regular siding, preferably at least .42 mil thickness. These manufactures have not perfected this product yet. It warps at the top of the wall were the eve line shadow hits.

Hey, I am the neighbor that owns the house with white siding. You just made me very sad. :)
We offer hollow back and insulated vinyl siding to all of our siding customers and I would say 80% pick the more energy efficient insulated vinyl siding. so I completely agree with what you are saying.

I'm glad it was a help. If you live in the Richmond, Va. area we would love to help you out.
You should also do a video on the different grades and thickness of the insulation panels and siding too👍👍

I've been reading the insulated siding traps moisture behind the wall
The insulated siding does not trap moisture behind it. In many cases it's more permeable that 1/4" ploycore insulation with a plastic backing.
your absolutely right it does their has been many scientific papers written on this issue rotting houses. Don't use insulated vinyl their is no need for it
by the the way insulated vinyl has an r value of 2 or 5 it's pretty much just a gimmick

Great idea, saves time and money.
I enjoyed your video. It was very helpful. Thank you!
Great explanation! Thank you for the information.
Helpful and informative thanks!!

Fantastic mini-review. Thanks for making this helpful video. Very helpful!
how does it compare to Charter Oak siding with drop in insulation?
Are the corners and trims also insulated with the same material? If not you don’t truly have a complete “R” value improvement
I have a 14x61 foot mobile home with screwed on metal siding. Can that insulated vinyl siding can go over the metal or do I have to unscrew the metal siding? Is this siding available in Michigan?

How much does the insulated siding cost?
Need more pixels, otherwise pretty good stuff! I'm looking at getting this done in the near future.

@jlburgus91 Do you have personal experience with this panel in it's full length?
I do siding, insulated sucks and takes x2 as long.
we just nail up foam first then run siding on it.
It wasn't created for your benefit, but for the benefit of the homeowner. Maybe you should seek work as a mattress tester - seems up your alley.
