    I decided on Alside Prodigy Insulated siding on the front and side of my house , put it right over my existing Insulbick siding , came out really nice looking , made the house quieter too , lifetime warranty , it cost $8,000 less than the Hardie Board

    I have Rollex vinyl siding on my house for 32 years and it has faded but still looks great and probably would last forever if you live that long. The other crap you can keep it.

      You're kidding right? I've seen so many horrible Hardie jobs where a few years later the siding is cracking all over. The siding is only as good as it's installed. Plus it's high maintenance.

    • @LukeOnTheMove

      Its terrible most times occupants are dead before the FD even arrives. Vinyl should be banned and replace with better building practices because its a complete fire hazard toxic when burns made out of petrochemicals completely non recyclable. Installers love it just because its easy cheap and lucrative

      @surgio154 The tiles on the space shuttle are made of silica fibers not foam they are made from sand. I would go with fiber cement board over any vinyl siding.

    I also think it’s very important to say that vinyl siding is designed to leak as well , hardy wont if done correct . No matter how you install vinyl it WILL LEEK. , it will be fine if you properly prepare it correctly

    • @RoyalKennedy601
      @RoyalKennedy601 2 роки тому +1

      That’s not true . Siding doesn’t leak . Improperly installed flashing leak . The Hardie planks finish is only warranted for 15 years the board is 30 and it has to constantly be recaulked every 5 yrs or so . So your going to be paying painters using paint that can’t hold up anymore .
      The Certianteed 7” insulated Cedar boards will last for 30 yrs min . No maintenance other than washing .
      Contractors selling high prices homes push the Hardie planks because they have to justify the high prices they are selling homes for . It’s a misleading product anyway you look at it

      @@RoyalKennedy601 if water gets behind the siding after you install it, that's called leaking as far as i am concerned . If you have ever worked with it than you should know that there are weep holes in the bottom of every section, because they designed it that way knowing that water will get behind it. yeah, i would say that improper flashing installation will leak. If you want to argue semantics. if you go into the installation of vinyl siding knowing water WILL penetrate, and you properly flash it then you shouldn't have any problems with leaks, However, hardy plank is much more sufficient, It isn't designed to leak from day one., regardless of what you use you should always prepare for the worst, counterflashing things before installation. In my honest opinion both of those systems are trash. Best siding that you can use in my opinion? Cedar clapboards. Hands down. Contractors, such as myself, build off blueprints. It isn't like we are sitting there saying okay how can we justify the cost of this project. Homeowners go to an architect, design the house and we build it. If they want to use cheap ass materials, that's on them. It isn't a fair statement to say that all builders do this. I always recommend better quality products over cheap ones for a few reasons, one being that my name is on the building and i take great pride in my trade. The companies that you are referring to are the ones that buy a plot of farm land, build the same exact home on every lot and cant keep track of who even works for them. A testament of " you get what you pay for" It always pays off long term to do your own research before hiring a contractor to build you home. I know that it takes longer to do something the right way than to just slap the home up and get you moved in, which surprisingly is the case quite often, they want the house built instantly. They want to move in yesterday.

      @@Carpenters_Canvas I’ve been installing vinyl for years and never had any leak .Installing it over cedar is a different story that’s a bad practice and never seems to work out well ie rot
      I agree that cedar is the best product but the problem is the newer paints are garbage . I have been painting my 1930 cedar since 1991 . I fact I stripped and sanded all the layers of alligator Ed paint off it in 91 .Primed with two coats of oil primer and two coats of high quality latex Pratt and lambert . I seemed to get 7 yrs out of a paint job . The last paint job didn’t hold up as well . It’s wanting paint more frequently . And that’s washing the siding ,painting in low humidity and out of direct sun ,with the right temperatures.The builder I.am talking about builds 4K sq ft houses and he is selling them for 2-4 million . He has to have upgraded and pricey materials to justify the prices . I know three distributors for hardie and certianteed products that say the hardie is junk and very problematic

      @@RoyalKennedy601 yeah, the newer stuff coming out is more work than it needs to be, i know the builders who do this sort of thing, gives us all a bad rap. have you ever tried a solid body stain? if not you should look into it, less maintenance and in my opinion looks better. paint new adays is garbage, your right there. I use a product called Lexel for everything i seal on the exterior of a house, its 12 dollars a tube but man is it worth it. Paintable and super durable. you can apply it when things are wet without any issues. as far as the vinyl siding goes, if you do a good job with everything else, it shouldn't leek. it messes me up see someone pay millions of dollars for a home and then the siding is vinyl. I'm from Delaware and it is being developed very heavily. so i see it daily with what your talking about with prices and quality of the products being used. The best way to build a house is the way they did it from the early mid 1900's . oak framing, cedar exterior and the workers not only knew their trade exceptionally well, but they took pride in their work, a rarity now adays it seam.

    I got an estimate from a Hardie Board installer and was he creepy , I will put just plain cement board on the side of my house and paint it , I figure I will save $10,000 , it is thicker than Hardie Board and just as fireproof , it is for the side inbetween houses so it only has to be functional

    I have used hardiboard and quality vinyl and hands down without question..vinyl in my opinion is the way to go ....because the silica dust created when cutting hardiboard is medically very unsafe to breathe! If you cut hardiboard you will be covered, as will everything within 15 ft of you in a film of heavy cement/silica dust.
