Fear not. There are a huge number of young vocalists coming through doing covers of the most important music of the 60s and 70s. Even the old performers are coming out and performing as well as they always did. Here is an example.

This wonderful song, in an orchestral version, is a masterpiece and as exciting as the day it was published many years ago .. Written and sung by Gary Brooker, the introduction was composed in collaboration with the organist Matthew Fisher and at the time by he played on the Hammond organ, and was inspired by the classic pieces of Johann Sebastian Bach "Aria sulla quarta corda" and partly by the cantata "BWV 140 Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme", the surreal text is the work of the poet and lyricist Keith Reid. It is a joy to listen to it again after so many years!!!

How many times have now watched/listen to this video . They did this old rock classic right by paying the 'Bill ,pass due' for this great song . ' They did it right imo . Gary sings his heart out and WSP may just keep it's old title of 'Best Rock song ever .' I myself have maybe 10/15 songs i think may be #1 . But ,WSP still rules after listening to this . TY Lord for all the great music and singer's songwriter's we've had in our lifetime . As the old line goes,' I've loved them all .' It's true .!! My generation bought so much to the future only to be ignored . Rap . Doesn't float the boat with me . It is real music with it's oversampling . Huh . Rock & Roll For ever .!! TY & God Bless

When I hear this marvelous song, I’m taken back to the beginnings of my voyage through this life when everything seemed impossible and inevitable at the same time. It was a wonderful time when music was so good that it was like a drug and it was free and finding its way out of every corner of the world. We, average Joes really just took it for granted. We thought it would always be there at our side, a witness to our becoming. How could we know the music would ever end? But it did. Now these are what we have left of our youth and although still as beautiful as ever, they are a painful reminder of the inexorable march of time. I don’t believe anyone under the age of 50 has any idea what I’m talking about. I hate to sound old but what passes for popular music today is an abomination of what it was.

At 81, these performances are so wonderful. But the people are so OLD! Kidding.
I believe the time between about 1965 and 1979 was the greatest, most prolific in history, in terms of introducing great music and new musicians. As an adult during this period, my friends and I had a "discover" group. Carol King? The day Tapestry was released I bought eight copies to spread around. I bought several albums a week. Loggins and Messina, Who, Santana, Woodstock, and on. My kids grew up as teens with 300 albums of music no other kid had!
Now I have to go and see if there's a performance of Simple Sister, or a couple other songs I remember from this album!

I would say that the great bulk of the classic hits were released during the 1960's-80's period. Yes there were hits outside this 30 years period before and after, but in terms of Quantity of Quality that was the period.
