Using Big Planer Boards For Walleye Trolling on Lake Erie - Fall Walleye Fishing Off Huron, Ohio

- This video is all about how to troll for walleyes using large planer boards. My friends Chip and Sara went walleye fishing with me on Lake Erie near Huron, Ohio. Chip set us up with his program using Big planer boards instead of my usual inline planer board setup for walleye. Using big boards lets you run multiple lines at the same time and can cover a lot more water with a wide path. Big boards run at least 50 feet out from the boat. We ran them over 100 ft. After you catch a fish you just feed out the other lines to make room for the newest line to feed out.
Walleye trolling in the fall on Lake Erie is a great program as the fish are heading back towards the Lake Erie Islands, Vermilion and Huron from the deeper waters of Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.

Great Video
what a trip. huron is my home area. crushed tons of walleyes out there.
Nice info, picked up a couple things. Good fish!
Thats the same way I ran big boards 20 years ago blue weed whacker line and elastics bands and home made wood boards.I kept the tow line higher off the water with a tow mast. Big boards are great untill you have a wave flip one upside down and it start tangling all your lines and heading towards the other side of your boat.

Thanks for the video. Can you share what rod/reel setup that Chip runs? Appreciate it.
That's been a while...we use shimano tekotas...7ft medium to ml troll rods are often preferred for bog board setups
@@Bigwaterfishing I could see the convectors, was just wondering which rod. Figured he was matched up.
Wow, the boat is STACKED with rods and full coolers.
Great video. Please get a pair of fish grabbers for unhooking fish. I had to go to the emergency room to get unhooked once, no fun.
would it be possible to hire a charter captain to teach me how to fish out of my boat? Also, can you show me how to mark perch on my fishfinder? I always follow the pack butcan never seem to see them on my .
Just wondering why don’t you bonk your fish?
Why don’t they have live wells on board that boat.
where is your flag for the board
