Wow I always thought that Sid was just a hyped up A* Hole with not a lot going on upstairs. However after watching all your videos on this interview and this segment in particular instantly changed my mind. He seems to understand and recognize a lot more emotional type stuff then I would have thought. He recognized depression and seems to be sympathetic twords it. They drafted him to ECW to enhance the brand and make him the champion there. They wanted him to work with the guys there to make them better.I can see why people see going to that brand as a demotion. He really needed to be better utilized on the other shows.Besides his in ring years were slowly coming to a cross road and that was a small part of what happened. And the group of guys quit the company and were let out of their contracts in WCW.Sid might of heard Benoit was fired but that was not the case,he knew going into that match he was probably going to leave. He had no faith in Sullivan who he had personal issues with who promised he would push him and Chris just did not buy it.

Actually no, Chris was offered a job as a producer for WWE in late 2006.Vince knew that Chris was almost ready to hang up his boots, but wanted to keep him around. This was confirmed by his son David, in an interview with chris Van Vilet. Chris refused it, as he wan't ready to retire. Also Chris was actually supposed to win the World heavyweight championship in 2006 after batista's injury, however he didn't take it, as he wanted Chavo Guerreo to win it, due to the passing of his uncle Eddie. Chavo ending up giving the push to Rey instead. Also Chris was set to Win the ECW championship at vengeance, Vince wanted to make ECW a big brand, which they would have accomplished with Benoit, had he not passed. So no, Vince had nothing but respect for Chris Benoit.

He and Nancy were also setting up a wrestling School under his name. They had all the funds and were ready to go. The doctor that prescribed him medication was locked up after the fact, for selling steroids. He also overprescribed the Benoits with Xanax, a drug known to make you numb. And now catch this: The Benoits had a platter of food gifted to them the day that Benoit was supposed to show up. Daniel was supposedly throwing up from it, so he wanted to get him to the hospital, which he told Chavo on the phone, who said Chris sounded groggy. The indication is, that the food was laced with drugs, probably rohybnol, which would completely explain why no traces of it were found anywhere.

He definitely thought he was done being a main event guy. Going to ECW acting as champion then putting guys over.
Regardless, Chris Benoit was an over achiever in this business anyway. He was 5'8 220 lb technical wrestler that couldn't carry a story on the mic. He might have been successful on the Indy's or in Japan but he was never going to draw money long term in the WWE in the presence of casual wrestling fans who want character based entertainment.

Thanks for these uploads! I love Sid to death and it's cool to hear him speak his mind out about all this random stuff. He said it like it is: depression can lead a man to do the unthinkable! I'm the sort of guy to say it, hands down, cause i've been there. Depression has taken me to Hell and back, and made me take decisions i wouldn't otherwise take. But mostly, if i ever hurt anyone while at it, it was just *myself!* Never did it cross my mind to force others to pay for my own agony. Again, though, i'm not one to judge. A man's mind is like Humpty Dumpty and can fall either side sometimes. Only Chris would know what made him do what he did, and that answer he took to the grave.

People need to go watch Sid's run in the WWF from 1995- 97. Go watch his match with Shawn Michaels from the '96 Survivor Series for the Strap. I know shawn Michaels can have a match with anybody but im not just talking about the match and its a great match Sid does his part, but literally he is so freaking over with that crowd! People loved him everybody was fist bumping him and he got a huge pop! He was so popular as a babyface around this time I think if Bret would have accepted his role and the fact it was time to let others hold the WWF title and not just him dominate that Sid could have had alot longer more meaningful title runs well into the Attitude Era. Sid could work he knew his character and yes he could cut a promo and he was so freaking over man dont listen to the stupid smart marks who havent even done the research go back and watch he was so over with the fans people loved him! People love to play over and over again Sid's promo that he messes up with kevin nash on nitro and the one where he didnt know it was live and him breaking his leg in 2001. People go back and watch this mans great career and you will see one of the truly great athletic big man ever! Also recommend his two WWF Title matches in 1995 when he challenged Diesel at two of the In Your Houses that year. Also people need to get off kevin nashs back I mean Nash could work with anybody he knew what he could do and did it well. No more rambling go check out Sid you wont regret it!

He was going to have one last run with the ECW title along with being the face of the WWE’s ECW for awhile and putting over the new stars. WWE’s plan for ECW was to have Benoit and Punk leading it which sounds pretty great but yeah, it couldn’t happen. He wasn’t boring at all but I think his time was almost up as a wrestler. Then of course, he’d most likely come back during the part time era where people would be asking him to be in some dream matches.

I think Sid provides a kind take on this here but his facts are off. Chris and the rest of those guys got their releases. Sullivan booked Benoit to beat Sid as a show of good faith and to try and alleviate his paranoia that he’d be treated unfairly with Sullivan as the booker. They had Sid put his foot under the rope because they weren’t sure if it would work out so they made sure they had some kind of out if the conflict continued anyways. While his career in ring was naturally coming to its end in the near future, which probably was hard for a guy who had never held any job other than being a wrestler and had been an active wrestler for 22 years, his son and Nancy’s sister spoke on the transition plan post wrestling that was starting to be put into motion as he was going to open a wrestling school and they’d even made some merch for it. But the move to ECW wasn’t him getting his walking papers at all. He was transitioning to ECW after a long title run with the US Title that he dropped to a young star in MVP, and this was at the time where the WWE US title wasn’t meaningless like it became and was held by solid guys still, and was slated to win the ECW world title at that PPV that weekend which has been confirmed by multiple people in the WWE and was going to help elevate those guys. Who knows how much longer there truly was left but with how respected he was in the industry he wasn’t out of a job.

I don’t think Chris was about to get his notice but I do think he was about to get phased out. Personally, I found Chris boring. He couldn’t draw on his own- he needed guys like Eddie, Angle and Jericho to do them drawing. He was great in the ring but it depended who he was working with. He definitely wasn’t on the level of Eddie, Angle, Jericho, HBK etc

Everything sid said was wrong. Benoit has a tryout in the early 90s when he was wrestling in Japan and he was offered a contract but turned it down cause he wanted to keep wrestling in Japan and Vince said he couldn’t

This puts it into a lot more context, a lot of ppl are saying steroids this and he snapped or whatever, I think if he was going to get released, and he went from world champ to a mockery of ecw, for a guy who lived and breathed the business that couldnt have gone well, esp considering eddie and everything else, if nancy threatened to leave him then maybe he figured it would be better off being gone than being a shell of himself, I cant say it forgives what he did or that it excuses him from it, I'll always be of heymans sentiment, he still had a choice, and he killed 2 innocent ppl rather than just himself

  • @MeekMillisbendingoverrn
    @MeekMillisbendingoverrn 7 місяців тому

Wasn’t brain damage or steroids…it was a man who was backed into a corner by his wife and employer…he did this shit over a 3 day period…it wasn’t like Benoit didn’t know what he was doing…there’s mfs killing their spouses every single day out here and the loss of the only guy he talked too in Eddie didn’t help either…his kid is where it gets tricky and confusing…my only explanation with that is that he didn’t want his kid to grow up hating him so he took him with him too…Benoit was a freak show and he showed it on the last weekend of his life…not to mention the career choice he chose didn’t help his cause with the constant traveling and the constant pressure…he felt like nobody was on his side his wife hated him his boss was about to fire him and his best friend died years before…he just snapped end of story

Benoit was supposedly going to ECW to help build up the newer guys like he had done with smackdown in 02 because the ECW originals had all been fired pretty much. I think only Van Dam was left and Big show had taken time off. I don't think it had been a demotion.

When he said that Benoit has a couple tryouts before making it is not true. He had one tryout in the mid 90s and they offered him a contract but he wanted to wrestle in Japan part time and wwf but Vince didn’t allow it. So he turned down the contract

Benoit was a great worker, but that's about it. His promos were nonexistent, his charisma was purely physical, and he wasn't a draw outside of Canada. Good guy to have on the card, but never in a million years should've been world champion. Oh, and he murdered his entire family. That, too.

Sid was always cool with me. but I can tell you the boys riled him up too about pay they were getting and even lying just to work him up. IMO Sid, like Luger, Warrior, Goldberg, Brock Lesnar saw wrestling as a way to easy money and were never fans of the business as kids. That passion to perform is missing in all of them.

Chris was definitely not going anywhere, after WWE went PG in 08 they had a drought of new talent and a lot of talent leave for a short while, I think he easily would've stayed in the main event/upper mid-card for a few years before retiring or being let go. Considering they put the world title on guys like Khali, Mark Henry and Christian I think Christ would've probably held the world title at least once more.

ECW was a shell of its former self under WWF. Considering his overall career it was certainly a step down. The man had severe CTE, a failing marriage and was on steroids and anti-depressants - his behaviour was clearly irrational. Sid didn't want too speculate much and kept his opinion diplomatic.

If Chris had just killed his wife and himself he probably wouldn't have been erased from wwe history. I'm not saying that was okay by any stretch but it's the killing of his son that pushed it to the point of no return.

I wouldnt see it as demotion but I get what he means. I reckon benoit was send down to ecw to do what kurt angle should of done back 06. Be world champion and help put over the younger talent, which he did with mvp, lashley and punk. Plus give the ecw brand a legit accomplish star that's why I think kurt and benoit was sent there but going there didnt help them either.
