- G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring highly-trained special mission force. Its purpose: to defend human freedom against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world."
What I love best about this movie is that they kept a lot of the original intro intact, you can see the same with 'Transformers the movie'. As such; including the 'explanation' (GI Joe is the codename for...) and everything the fans came to expect. And more! I love this one, a true classic!
Thank you nothing but, great memories. I feel sooo lucky and fortunate to grow up watching this.
The 2 things I love the most bout the intro: 1) Duke blows up the enemy ship 2) He picks up the flag & stands on top the statue of liberty. ABSOLUTEY badass!!
I remember loving this movie when I was a kid, but never really understood anything about the plot. I was just fascinated by the action sequences and only have just watched this again to get what was going on.
I kinda reminds me of how much I've matured over the decades.
These movies(Gijoe,Transformers)were so important to me as a child. Thank you for posting this! : D
I wonder why it's been out of print for so many years, G.I. Joe is so extremely underrated, they should have released it on DVD 3 years ago for the 20th anniversary of this movie.
This movie was awesome,so glad its on dvd now,i still have the vhs.
I remember when this came out in like 1987. I was shocked because it came on out of the blue with such good animation and knew theme song. I was like who the heck is this chick in the black hood?!!! She was awesome. Hood memories .
Bajka z dzieciństwa, nawet nie zliczę ile razy ją obejrzałem:)
dzisiejszy Narkodetektoryści z parku miejskiego też nie pamientają ale lubi a ja .
Just doesn't get any better than GI JOE ... Dino Riders ... Starcom ... man I love that stuff!
8:22 This bit really stands out for me; it shows that they really did have some good animators on the team.
thanks for the upload man i really love this when i was a kid i just watched this again and again every summertime
I agree.
I wanted to hate (prejudge) the recent film, but the live ersion really capture the essence of the series. The actions scenes had the same level of whimsical over-the-top choreography bordering almost on the believability.
I was quite surprised and impressed.
I was a HUGE Joe fan so that it's not easy for me to accept something that carries the name, but I think it stood on its on merit.
I remember watching this movie as a kid. It's a well-known cult classic!
Thank you for uploading this, no matter how much i looked, couldnt find a good download, or torrent of this movie. Thank you so much!
Cobra Commander may be bad as a leader most of the time but standing up to Serpentor like that takes balls
Still love the G.I.Joe Cartoon..still rules alot..
00:00-03:06
A far more memorable introduction visually than you ever got in the regular G.I. Joe TV series IMHO.
Anyone ever notice how demanding Serpentor is? "I would like a latte, THIS I COMMAND! Less starch in my shirts, THIS I COMMAND! Lets get together Friday night, THIS I COMMAND!"
This is the best cartoon thanks for this!!!!
Isn't sad when the cartoon movie is WAY BETTER than the live action movie. A great part of my childhood, bringing my Snake Eyes action figure to the theater to watch this movie.
the sounds from Star Wars make it so much better.
3:00, America!!! Can't tell you how many time I watched this as a kid.
what makes me so thankful and i dont at all take it for granted i still own all my gi joe and cobra vehicles including the uss flagg terrordrome defiant etc
Duke probably got ANOTHER Medal of Honor for carrying the live explosives up from Lady Liberty and blowing up the Cobra air transport.
Flying through the air with a jetpack, defeating global terrorists while waving the American flag. YO FREAKIN' JOE!
1980 was the best decade for classic cartoons like gi joe transformers the thundercats and others i forgot
Best thing about this movie was that the debut was on TV! YO JOE!!!!!
BLUNDERERS! FOOLS!
Sounds like every board meeting I've ever attended.
LOVE G.I. JOE!!!
What is most surprising is the caliber of actors lending their voice to this 80's cartoon masterpiece. Burgess Meridath and Don Jonhson...wtf?!
The cobra high command and a bunch of punks. These guys something else, when Serpentor was down none of them helped him out and fell back in line behind Cobra Commander.
EPIC
the quality is much better compared to Season 2 (where Serpentor took over as leader), this movie was a big step up from the regular cartoon series
the first seconds of this movie amazes me all the time -- and the theme is just awesomesauce like that golden glitter of glory hitting the frame. Damn, I want my name to be struck like that ;P
My buddy noticed that Cobra troops came all the way to NY just to smash one camera, scare people and then get buttkicked by GIJoe ^^.
COOOOOOOBRAAAAAAAAAHHHh
"I.... I love you!" I'm sure that's what Serpentor was about to say at the end.
lost my gijoe vid. thx for posting these and the transformers!
Shame the video quality is low, such an awesome movie as this deserves 1080p!
BEST...CARTOON...INTRO...EVER!!!!!!
wow gi joe was one big army recruitment ad....too bad i still love this movie.
the openin alone 4 this movie was awesome and the rest was great 2
I refused to watch the live action movie because I was die hard joe fan. I have all the episodes on DVD.
But I must say, the movie did capture the spirit of the feel of the original series. It was fun and imaginative; taking itself serious enough, but not too serious.
I kind of felt bad for thinking it would be awful.
I love how the battlepods sound just like snowspeeders from Empire.
Serpentor just abused everyone in this room, and who was the one who stand up for this? Only Cobra Commander had the guts to do that. When there is an attack he come up with a plan in a blink of eye. He's genius, just nobody likes him in Cobra.
COBRAAAAAAA
Paramount has commissioned the development of a live-action G.I.JOE
The film is being slated for a 2009 release date with Stephen Sommers as the director[2][3] and Stuart Beattie as the scriptwriter.[4] The film will feature an international task force based in New York[5] (previously Brussels)[6] called G.I.J.O.E,(Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity)
Because he SHOULD be in charge... damn that Serpentor, damn him to hell. I say I completely hate him... if he didn't have one of the coolest looking figures on the market.
Man i still love this shit!! Old school da best school ;-)
I like the opening starting at 4:29. Cobra Commander was a cool villain. I always thought his uniform was cool.
electronic arts is currently reviving the classic GI Joe theme song and putting it in their next GI Joe video game for Wii U.
Did anybody else notice Storm Shadow at the beginning? When we see that establishing shot of the various Cobras in the Terrordrome you can see his upper torso with his sword.
I love how there using music from the 80's cartoon, The Transformers.
I can't wait for the live movie to come out in 2009....I can't wait for my favorite character Tunnel Rat
I like the fact that they used background music from the regular show in the movie.
I don't see why every time Hollywood makes a movie based on a cartoon they have to turn it into something totally unrecognizable. The old Ninja Turtles movie is exactly what a cartoon movie should be: just make the cartoon with real actors. It's that simple. I guess they figure that these shows are old enough that nobody will remember what they were like... then again, GI Joe was airing on Cartoon Network as recently as six years ago!
It's fun watching this movie and hearing all the SFX from the original transformers, like at 7:55, that siren is Teletraan 1's siren too
Cobra sure had some cool villians!!! Firefly, Storm Shadow, Xamot (he was da one with da scar) & Tomax, Serpentor, Destro, not to mention the ones that weren't in the cartoon like Croc Master!!!!!!!
man, those sliding blast doors never seem to close fast enough in any movie.
Crimson Guard for the win!
aawwww this Pythona scene has the best music !!!
Love the Sommersverse (I'd rather see this than the third "Mummy" since he has no creative involvment! :( ), and the fact both Ray Park and Christopher Eccleston are in it really, really gets me excited. Although I could do without that beeyotch Sienna Miller. I blame Paramount for that.
THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Between this and the Transformers 1986 movie.. i cant decide
You know it just hit me, that with all the silly non death stuff from GI Joe like pilots bailing out at the last second and Joes fighting robots...you look at 2:48 and you have to picture the hundreds if not thousands of Cobra troops that Duke just incinerated with that bomb.
i'm surprised that the statue of liberty is not all damage in the fight during the intro.
its better when people put the movies in parts cause youtube changed the longer videos are slower
Best opening theme song!
I know. In this intro Serpentor is blasting all of them and the Commander defends them all and in a flash they turn on him. Funny how Cobra Commander created the entire organization from scratch but some genetic mishmash was spoon fed the organization and couldn't accomplish anything.
@nobodysperfect06 It's out on DVD NOW in the US by Shout Factory. Rhino no longer has the distribution rights for the series, besides there was a few complaints regarding their sets anyway.
in the live-action G.I. Joe movie, YOU SEE COBRA COMMANDER'S FACE!!!!!!!!!!!, man that pissed me off, and in the storyline he was former friend, teammate in Duke's military unit, and also the Baroness was once engaged to Duke, and I hated the accelerator suits, because the Joe's are supposed to be the best of the best, the toughest members of the U.S. military, they never wore performance enhancing suits.
@zvermilyer3 you hav to remember "comander" is a rank... like capt... serpentor is the emperor.. highest rank
It's Major Bludd. And apparently he survives the fall, as he appears in the next scene.
Quality, I have this on VHS although my intro is different to this...guess this is the US version. Cobra la la la la la!
I think Zim took acting lessons from Cobra Commander.
there was a Robocop cartoon from the late 80's that had similiar animation to this
im getting my lil kid on!!!
Yeah, I just saw the sequel starring the Rock last night, and this cartoon is better than *both* movies put together. -A lot more realistic too.
OMG I have this on cassette
corba's helmet is better than the MICH 2000 XD, Their military industrial complex is enormus. wonder what the defense budget looks like.
Messege From National Security Advisor
To Joint Chefs of Staff Washington D.C
UMMM... There, The Big scary looking building with all the Cobra markings...
That’s where Cobra Headquarters is
Bomb There
Love
Tom
Cobra Commander = Starscream
@LeTelecast
forget Serpentor,
Cobra will always be commander.
this song was hella catchy at the begining! :-D
They were the cowards. They created him to get rid of commander who should have take off and left them. The commander was actual the best soldier in Serpentor's army/
lol "Sgt. Slaughter as Sgt. Slaughter"
does it strike anyone odd that the opening credits sequence has the style of a broadway musical
2:20 - 2:22 hit em with the choppa, Hawk!
@brinpol
The ending of the Episode Arise Surpentor Arise, Serpentor was about to kill Cobra Commander until CC convinced him that COBRA would turn on him once they realised how imperfect he was and he had no one to blame, and COBRA's disdaine for him made him the perfect scapegoat for him to blame for when his plans fell apart. After that well he couldn't get rid of Cobra Commander or he'd look like a fool when his plans failed and CC couldn't remove Serpentor with out being labeled a tratior
Best line ever at 7:19!
I never read the comics, but I heard that they recently resurrected him
I just bought this on DVD. The Transformers movie is better , but it is cool to see this again...I forgot Don Johnson did the voice for Falcon.
Cobra...CobrAAAAA!!!!
Nah, I saw it... and loved it. Hee, hee
@OutburstRecordsInc Its out there. I bought a copy of it a couple of years ago.
Open the blast doors! Open the blast doors!
Funny thing is this is a Japanese cartoon and Company that made the toys
Where are the Cobra Medics to carry off the commander when he goes batty?
im wondering.. are those twins cobra vipers? like.. are the vipers clones of them or something?
When are they going to re-release this on DVD?
its a shame the producers of this movie opted to go direct to video if I recall this correctly they were afraid of getting a bad review like transformers did, and yet 25 years after the fact it is better then the live movie. The movie was ok, but it was nothing to right home about.
@smallville160 your right the voice actor did starscream and cobra commander
I dubbed it from the rental store. I would think it's on DVD.
