Usually the people at the Emmy's just give the win to the same people and series, year after year, fortunately Shogun is a new series and IMO that gives Cristin a huge chance to win next year, hope they don't put The Penguin in "best comedy" category, dummies do that a lot when there's too many series competing.
There is tv out there that isn't comic book stuff. The Penguin is good but there's a lot of incredible tv out there lol, not just IP content like DC characters
BIG time red wedding vibes. And when Sofia was skipping and dancing through the house afterwards. Maaaaaaan. You guys NAILED it. It's the best episode yet.

I may be misquoting it but my favorite line of this episode and the show so far is when falcone says “ youre mine , theyll do what I say” the sharpness and way mark strong said it so concretely had me hooked on this man as a boss.
You just made me realize something; the line itself is a double-edged sword, as well as foreshadowing. Carmine can make the family rally behind his daughter in her journey to become the next boss or rally the family against her if she's a threat to him.
Director Helen Shaver needs to be given not only an Emmy but give her her choice of ANY future movie or tv show she wants to direct. It was such a brilliant move to have Sofia’s story start off in this bright and colorful charity event, then get darker and drained of color as they’re inside Arkham Asylum, and then have this gorgeous warm sunlight follow Sofia as she’s walking through the mansion past the bodies of all of her treacherous family.
I hope she can help make the Arkham series happen, I believe it is still in development though needs really solid direction to ensure it’s just as if not more engaging than this series - this episode really showed what that series could be.
@@piusdoe8984 It's a fairly prominent aspect throughout all interpretations of Batman, Arkham Asylum has never been a nice place. Batman tends to have a "someone else's problem now" attitude towards crime
I think it is very easy to empathize with Sophia as a character. How she was treated is unthinkable, especially by her own father. People like Carmine Falcone exist and he and the rest of his family deserved everything they got and then some. You reap what you sow. Cristin Milioti is as good a character actress as I have seen in a long time. She is beautiful, flawed, funny, and at the end of the episode you kind of chuckle to yourself and say, “Wow! That’s messed up.” 😮Can’t wait for Episode 5. This series has been great so far. So much attention to detail in every aspect of the filming and presentation. This episode was like a mini-movie I thought. They covered a lot of ground in an hour.
I tuned in for some Penguin discussion, and had no idea I'd get Amy Nicholson! My night has improved immensely! After listening to the show, I have to say that I concur with what Cristin Milioti said in response to the question of whether or not she fears Sofia: Of course, Sofia is a very dangerous person, but I think that almost exclusively applies to dishonest, disingenuous, indecent people who would have her under their boot if it meant they could climb the ladder. I'm no saint, myself, but I don't fear Sofia. I guess that places me firmly into the, "I can fix her", camp, but I don't know that I would agree with that. She doesn't need fixing. She needs help, support and understanding.
People really have a tendency to overhype actors in shows they like-“wow what an amazing performance, give them the Emmy!” That being said….WHAT an AMAZING performance by Cristin Milioti. Give her the Emmy RIGHT NOW
This episode added so much to Sofia and Alberto's relationship. He was the only one in Sofia's family who didn't betray her. I bet Carmine told him to lie too but Alberto stuck by his sister.
oh, I've seen this happen a few times in real life. I've noticed it usually it happens with step-daughters unfortunately. This episode did such a good job showing all aspects of situations like this, in less than one hour.
The beauty of being innocent and then evolving into a villain in a world run by men that see her as just a little girl. And it's the fact that as many of us may grow up innocent and as we grow older, our families change, and then to find that your whole family has turned on you for a reason you can't understand.
Somehow w tv show did what ms marvel tried to do and no one is upset. Wow, it’s almost like people weren’t being sexist about a movie and just didn’t like the story because this show nailed it so good with out rubbing it in your face lol
This episode definitely makes the audience now change their minds about oz... the first 3 episodes made him seem likeable in a way but now he's completely flipped when u see what he did to sofia..he literally ratted her out. If he didn't say anything, none of that would of happened to her...
He didn't rat her out to be cruel, though. And he had no idea that Falcone was gonna do what he did. Oz was actually just trying to protect her at that point, It makes him more sympathetic in my view. It's when he leaves her in the street after the attack that it flips.
the intake was insane. idk what the purpose could be, but there are other ways to determine if woman is pregnant or has a condition without using a speculum without consent
Historically, female characters in comics, especially villains, lack depth. Comics are mostly written by men and for men, with a focus on female villains' outward attributes, leaving them without interesting backstories. Internal conflict, trauma, societal pressure-elements often developed in male villains-are missing. There are already very few female villains to begin with, and those that exist, like Harley Quinn or Cat woman, don’t get proper character development; they’re only portrayed as "seductive." Sofia Falcone was just one of this kind of Villains in comic book and showrunners amazing performance by Cristine transformed her into something entirely new!
I disagree but that's probably what the writers were going for unfortunately. Using the Penguin to make a show about a different character they actually wanted the show to be about
@jjtorrorobin4230 I'm hoping so, it's been great so far but the interviews I've seen with the showrunner definitely give me the impression that she favors Sofia as a character over Oz who's supposed to be the lead. Ep 4 just had me a bit worried that this is going to be the pivot point where the show starts to heavily focus on her over Penguin but we'll have to see.
Penguin is probably the best worst show I have ever seen. Filled with tropes but also awesome performances. Purely watching for Sofia and Colin Farrell.
@@tykjenffs I truly love Shogun, such a beautiful series and filled with amazing performances. Has plenty of troupes too though and doesn’t have the intensity this does. Definitely a strong contender and I hope it continues to do well, The Penguin has been more engaging overall for me.

I love that Cristina mentioned Batman Forever. I'm around the same age and that movie was my introduction to Batman.
