      I never accept a ride past 10 minutes period even though the acceptance rate quotations hurts but accepting these rides and becoming upside down hurts even more. You can’t see the destination prior accepting. However, this guy’s video is complete bullshit. If you cancel after arrival time expire is policy but you wasted time getting there so $5 cancelling is silly as you’ll have to wait again. 95% of the time your fare will be in the car before you can cancel.

    I take umbrage at his wording. You're not seeing the passenger's destination "ahead of time". You're already there. You've already driven there and tapped to arrive. Wasted time & money. Now, what would be much more appreciated from a business standpoint, is to see the destination before we accept the ride. That is the proper time. It's not fair to the passenger for someone to come all the way there and arrive and then suddenly cancel and take off. That's so not cool. Especially if they're going to the airport or work, and need to be there in a certain time and now have to wait for another driver. If you're not going to take someone, you should be rejecting or calling them immediately and letting them know so they can cancel immediately & not accrue a cancelation fee and you haven't got a ding on your Acceptance Rate or already made the drive. I think Lyft needs to get off its butt and actually allow the drivers to see the destination before we accept the ride. That is the time to pass it to someone else and to not have the passenger wait as long.

      Absolutely. As a female driver there are definitely areas I don't want to go. Lyft does not take our safety seriously. Until they do, I will keep this as just a hobby, driving strictly daylight hours and in my small town where there pretty much AREN'T any unsafe zones. @Angry Trucker Tipping is a practice brought in from class-based societies like in Europe in the thirties by restauranteurs who wanted to save money. It was thought to be anti-American because it casts one person as the high-born patron, and that other as a servant whose meagre earnings are not enough. "Here my good man, bring a goose home to your wife for Christmas", you'd say, as you press a coin into the hand of the servant. It was beneath the dignity of freeborn men in a democracy then, and it still is. The employer should pay enough that the job is worth it to the employee. In a democracy, we need employees, not servers/servants. Fortunately, in the case of Uber and Lyft, the tip is included in the price already. Consider 12% of what you earn to be your tip, or, consider yourself to be a freeborn employee earning your wage.

  • @Pj-kb7yj
    @Pj-kb7yj 6 років тому +52

    The problem is, you should be able to see where the destination the driver needs to go to prior to excepting the job. That in itself will cut down on cancellations make it easier for the driver seat determine whether or not it’s in a safe area and it is not somewhere you want to drive in that city. So Lyft if you’re listening try doing that offering that to your drivers got on on your cancellation

    Cancelling the ride after arrival at the pickup location would increase your cancelation rate which would lead to deactivation even if Lyft never admits it to be the reason for deactivation. Also driving to the pickup location and finding out the destination of the passenger only after arrival is a waste of time, gas, mileage, energy and so on. Drivers should never be forced to gamble with their resources while Lyft has very little to lose. Being an independent contractor implies more freedom in accepting and denying requests which could not be without full information about the ride in advance. I assume that you know that already.

With no details about that ride provided at the time it comes in, I have to assume it's a short ride that will net me a couple dollars which means I'd spend my own money on time, gas, wear & tear. Quick math: 45 mins = approx 2 gallons of fuel @ $4.50/gal means I spent $9 of my own money just to get there plus whatever fuel to take the passenger to their destination. If it's a 10 mile ride then I'd make maybe $7. If the app has the audacity to send me that request and expect me to even consider it, then add a huge bonus to the ride payout. Passengers are usually shocked when I tell them that we can't see their destination until they get in the car. My recent best was driving 11 miles down a 1 lane road in traffic (took me a full hour to make the drive. Called the passenger on the way to let her know it was going to take me so long and she said that's ok). I pick her up just to see that shes going 1 literal mile back in the direction I just came from. Spent almost two hours on this ride and made the $2.26 minimum. This is so very rude on the customers part, as they could have walked to their destination in a fraction of the time it took me to drive through traffic, pick her up, and then continue sitting i traffic for another half hour to go 1 mile. I understand the passenger is paying for the ride but in these situations the driver actually loses money. Not right.

    I heard with Lyft (not Uber) you had to make an effort to call them if they weren't out yet to receive a cancel fee. Is this not true?

    • @RideshareJoe
      @RideshareJoe 6 років тому +10

      Pete Differ it is true that you are required to call, you can however trick the app into thinking you made the call without actually calling by just tapping the call button and then pressing cancel

      Thanks, good info. Another tip, to avoid a delicate situation of getting them again right away when they request a new ride is to remember their rating. I always make a point to do that. That way if another request comes up in the same area with the same rider rating, you know it's probably them. If you get them again after they were charged a noshow fee you know you're going to get 1 star.

    • @RideshareJoe
      @RideshareJoe 6 років тому +3

      Pete Differ I actually accept their request if they make it again, then when they get in I just say “hey, sorry about that last one, I tried calling but got no answer” most times pax understand and don’t get mad

    Why do you keep saying “it’s nice of Lyft and “use this function ethically” is it ethical for them to not give me any information about a ride before I accept it which forces me to take someone further than I am willing to or is forcing me to pretty much pay to work after all the expenses are factored into the trip? I have been doing food delivery for a year now and the only way it is profitable is by declining any order that doesn’t net me the highest possible profit.. how am I supposed to make money when I’m wasting gas and time being forced to complete rides that aren’t profitable…

  • @treycaldwell4118

    Don't you have to contact the passenger in order to get the cancellation fee?

    • @alrgaines
      @alrgaines 6 років тому +4

      Trey Caldwell hey not only that but... somethings the f'in app will automatically call the rider. Without any driver input or action. You'll be sitting there watching the counter and moments later, (especially if your phone is linked to in car Bluetooth) your phone is ringing as if you actually tried calling the rider yourself. For this very reason I downloaded a call confirm app. This way the LYFT platform can't physically or remotely access my phone feature and dial up the rider. My phone would stop the action until I confirm that I want to make this call. Furthermore, you WILL NOT GET....I SAY AGAIN... YOU WILL NOT GET A NO SHOW FEE IF YOU DON'T MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE RIDER. The no show option will be visible after you've waited 5 minutes, but if you tap no show, you don't get a no show fee.
      Here's my take on that. A rider requested for a ride. At the time you've accepted the ride, the rider now gets your eta. In addition to your eta, once you've arrived, they then receive an additional 5 minutes. Ugh... WTF? WHY? If the rider isn't capable enough to get out on time or within the 5 minutes... They their asses shouldn't be using the damn app. HELLO! So let me see...im supposed to contact a person that requested for a ride, they knew what my eta was, I've waited 5 minutes after arrival... And I must still call them? And say what? Hey douchebag... I'm still waiting in case you haven't noticed.
      What's next? Opening the door for them getting them into their booster seat, buckle them in and give them their binky & snack too? I shouldn't have to do shit. Hell...i wasn't the one that requested the ride, im here to make money and why waste my time because this rider isn't capable of getting out to the car within this window. I could be on another trip with a rider who can.
      More importantly... They should be waiting for us, not the other way around, we should wait for them. There's really no excuse for this. If you can't get to the driver in time then you deserve to be charged. That's you're penalty for what you've done.
      This hasn't been nipped in the bud yet because it's happening more and more. I bet after a few fees that won't be refunded or credit, they'll learn. Doing all this makes LYFT look desperate.... like they're begging riders to ride. When I cancel rides my rating drops. That's my penalty for doing what I did. But yet they rider can do this as often as they please?
      One thing is for sure, 100%... that's "LYFT HAS WAY TOO MUCH CONTROL." We're watched over like hawks, told what to do what not to do when to do how to do, but wait... aren't we subcontractors? Are we able to be our own boss? NO... We're treated like garbage, treated like employees, but only when it's convenient. Partners don't tell each other what to do, instead they come together to find a solution. It's always one sided with them.

    Not sure what "ethics" has to do with it. It's more about reputation. My 4.9 rating and 95% acceptance rate is good enough to keep Lyft and most of my passengers happy.
    On the other hand, the the things I would have to do to keep a 5.0 rating and 100% acceptance would definitely be _unethical_ (i.e. breaking traffic laws at the whim of the passenger or facilitating different forms of illicit activity.)

    Yes, Your video did answer the question of seeing destination prior.
    I just started so I could not see any action offline. I thought that odd,so I put myself ONLINE/LIVE/Apparenyly, available.
    Saw 1 passenger -showed up in town, -showed street,
    -but not where they wanted to go(I didnt even see passenger full name unless I had to press it again I don't know?).
    Say...Perhaps, I didn't have time to drive 1hr away. I thought this was about driving when we feel like it on our own increments of time.
    Anyhow, the light beeped after 15 sec saying something about how I didn't accept the ride.( I just didnt press buttons.)
    Now I feel Lyft is not user friendly AT ALL. BASICALLY, YOU showed us that drivers need to go
    "BLINDLY" to the close pickup 'After initially accepting the passenger- ONLY TO FIND OUT AT LAST MINUTE THAT THEY WANT TO TRAVEL TO EAST JAPEEPEE. Ridiculous, I think to be fair a driver (& passenger) should be able to see all available riders and their destinations. Then
    - press ONLINE, -CHOOSE the one you can commit to.
    Not sure about this whole Lyft setup. I'll probably try UBER.
    Thanks, loved your video your well versed!

And then collect there money for not providing them a service! I hope Lyft gets a hold of you and deactivate you for Stealing because essentially that's what you're doing. What a douchebag of a human being you are. How about just call them after you've accepted it and ask where they're headed...Duh! • @ColleenKitchen

      How about Lyft just show us what we're contracting to do in the first place and we can just ignore it from the get go if it doesn't suit us. I agree that accepting the ride and thereby eliminating the other drivers and driving to the passenger only to find that the passenger wants to go 50 miles the wrong way to a terrible hood without much chance for us to pay for the trip back is not ideal. I think the driver is only due a cancellation fee if the passenger fails to show. So telling us from the GET GO would be best for all, then some other driver who perhaps lives that direction could pick it up. And if no one grabbed it within five minutes the price could go up. I like the idea of calling them as soon as you accept as a work around. Maybe if everyone did this Lyft would start doing it for us.

Say if you got in your car and wanted to hit up your local Starbucks and then decided to turn on either app, and you see on Google maps that there's a passenger or passengers closest to you going near that Starbucks or exactly there.

      If we were given complete info before accepting you would be right. Given that the apps subsidize $5 dollar trips that take 40 minutes too complete, by not showing drop off pre acceptance, due too something like getting stuck in stadium traffic .... Cancelling is the only way to avoid losing money to drive someone 10 blocks. The rider isn't thinking about driver making $5 for 40 min and missing $30 of rides, and neither are the ride share apps, so up too the driver too make sure they don't get abused by the system
