    The Ynnari, also known as "the Reborn," are a kindred or religious sect of the Aeldari species comprised of members drawn from all of its other major kindreds, including the Asuryani, Aeldari Corsairs, Exodites, the Drukhari and the Harlequins.
    Under the leadership of the prophet Yvraine, the "Daughter of Shades," the Ynnari seek to fully awaken the Aeldari god of the dead Ynnead, who they believe can defeat Slaanesh and restore the Aeldari species' unity and its lost glory.

    The way the Ynarri were built up and then dropped unceremoniously makes a lot more sense when taken in context of what was likely happening behind the scenes at the time. The whole Fall of Cadia era, which this Ynarri plotline was enmeshed in, was being developed concurrently with the End Times over in Warhammer Fantasy. An event that, funnily enough, ended that game, to be replaced by Age of Sigmar.
    There's good reason to believe that GW was planning on rebooting 40K, much as they did with Fantasy. And the whole Fall of Cadia, Great Rift, Rise of the Ynead stuff would have culminated in that reboot. In essence, GW were setting things up to bring 40K to an end, so a new version of 40K could be started (where presumably GW made all the lore and background changes they wanted).
    In that light, the Ynarri story having such potential to annihilate the status quo in such a final way wasn't so bad, because the whole setting would be tied up with a little bow immediately afterwards. Ynead would be born, kill Slaanesh, usher in an age of prosperity for the Eldar, etc, etc. It wouldn't be a problem, because that version of 40K would be over and a new one would start. That, I think, was the plan.
    Then the End Times over in Fantasy actually happened, and everyone HATED IT. Hated it and everything having to do with the death of Warhammer Fantasy and the initial version of Age of Sigmar.
    I cannot understate just how botched that entire situation was by GW.
    Therefore, it's not unreasonable to assume that GW looked at the backlash against the Fantasy reboot, and got cold feet about rebooting 40K. The game that was the company's real money maker. So, while the tracks were still being laid for the Ynarri and books were in the works or being released, GW backpedaled. 40K still got a major rework, with the Great Rift and the Primaris Marines and the return of Guilliman, etc, etc. But it was a significantly scaled back shift in the status quo. Importantly, the setting as established would continue to exist. It just advanced forward in the timeline, with some aspects moved around or altered.
    In effect, GW canceled the 40K apocalypse. And that left the Eldar and the Ynarri out to dry, because their whole plotline was building towards that setting-ending event.
    Nothing has been done with the Ynarri, because their old story is non-viable. And no one has figured out or wants to figure out a replacement narrative. So the faction is kind of spinning its wheels, trapped in narrative limbo. Kept around because their minis still sell and people are invested in it. But more out of obligation, than any desire on GW's part to "finish" that story.

    Ynnead IS a god of death, true, but also rebirth.
    Everyone seems to overlook that.

    • @KirillTheBeast
      @KirillTheBeast 3 місяці тому +5

      True that. I was shooting the shit with some old school 40k players a while ago and they all agreed in that one way GW could get away with "killing Slaanesh" would be to actually have the Ynnari pull off their plan only to find out they had grossly misinterpreted the prophecy. Ynnead kills Slaanesh, then revives them because Ynnead is literally incapable of killing anything even remotely Eldar without reviving it. The Eldar race could then be left with the pesky situation of being one step closer to understanding the truth about the nature of their "gods"; they're psychic constructs akin to machines or rather power tools. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail; if you bring one of those back to its full power, it'll just do what it was built to do, and if you've got just a shard of one, it'll try to regain its full might by doing as much as possible of what they're meant to do. This is consistent with how The Laughing God has behaved thus far (he's not good or evil, he's just a machine with a single gear labeled "stir shit up") and it would make Ynnead make sense, since it just woke up and went "yo, I is here to put Eldar souls through a death and rebirth cycle. THAT bitch has the most Eldar souls in it. Shank her!". Eldar get to not get swallowed by Slaanesh unless they "fall" on an individual basis, Eldar who are strong-willed enough can be reborn the old way, some Exodites could come back (pls gib Eldars riding dinosaurs) and GW could then have a paradigm in which the FINALLY REMOVE FUCKING SOUL STONES FROM THE FUCKING LORE!
      I don't know where that last bit came from but the two old school Eldar players strongly agreed on that point and I'm a filthy Drukhari player so I don't share their collective abandonment syndrome xD
      Rants aside, the rebirth aspect of Ynnead is the one key piece that could provide GW the flexibility and the creative space to actually move the lore of a non-Imperium faction forward into a new status quo, which is what a bunch of people want out of non-Imperium, non-Horus Heresy books.

    • @pixo2280
      @pixo2280 3 місяці тому

      @@KirillTheBeast JW does not need to kill Slaanesh even. Just make the rebirth part undesirable, like rebirth to wraith construct. Than make Slaanesh use up almost all of her power to kill Yaneed and save aeldari race from it. In the mean time good old Chegorath will steal all of aeldars souls and make it hard for Slaanesh to keep aeldari souls forever. So unless aeldari use too much psychic power or be deprived like drukhari they will be on respawn time in Slaanesh domain for time.
      Thad would be such a good joke worthy of Prime Cloun.
      Power balance will not shake much, just that aeldari will start to be relevant again and can help with plotarmored bugs.

    And since it’s on everyone’s minds (because gods know it is) I know everyone ships Guilliman and Yvraine (whether serious or just for the memes/fanfiction) but I honestly just want to see more interactions between the two, like talking about what it’s like to be a leader of a faction constantly on doom’s door, what it’s like to feel like your the only one of your kind (since Yvraine is the only known chosen of Ynnead), and to be seen as an icon to your people. Especially for a faction whose entire thing is stumbling and sleepwalking along on their way to extinction. Its a very good implementation of hope being a form of rebellion that the weight of grimdark can't snuff out.

    Something I would like to add is that in Age of Sigmar lore something akin to "Slannesh dying to save the elves" is currently whats happened. The way AoS handled it is that Slannesh is tricked and imprisoned in a paradox realm where the new Aelf pantheon then cut out and siphon elf souls from. Technically Slannesh is "missing" from the chaos pantheon in AoS, it is even shown with Archeon's model where his mount has a head for each of the chaos gods, except Slannesh because they are missing. But her essence is still there, the realms of Slannesh is still in the warp, just the throne room is empty. A big plot line for AoS Slannesh armies right now is the search for their missing god. Really interesting stuff. I can definitly see a out for GW in that Reborn Ynead god could fight slannesh forever in the warp while harliquinn clown god does a sneaky and yoinks the souls to get reborn. But Slannesh is still extremely powerful so some Eldar souls get sent to Slannesh but there is hope that Ynead and Kekgod could rescue some souls.

    When they reintroduce the emporers children in the lore with Fulgrim he or the demon they fought with have the sword.
    Slannesh will go on a massive win streak like Nurgle did before getting curbstomped by a united Imperium and Eldari front, but instead of killing Slannesh and her realm they will only greatly wound her/him/it whilst retrieving the sword and partially releasing the death god to help the Eldari to repopulate at a slow rate and save their souls but not completely so they are not able to become o.p'ed.

    I could see it happening where they do finally manage to manifest Ynnead and he does battle Slaanesh directly, and it looks like he's going to win (despite the fact Slaanesh ripped open almost the entire Eldar pantheon single-handedly, but prophecies and stuff I guess) when the other Chaos Gods intervene, since while they are opposed to Slaanesh they're not going to let some outsider god steal their kill. Then Cegorach shows up with the shards of Khaine ready to unite and resurrect, and also with Isha who used the distraction to escape Nurgle's garden. Apocalyptic god battle ensues. The Eldar gods have to retreat, but they get two of their number back in the process. This way they can build on what's there without having to massively overhaul anything.

    The way out of this conundrum is to make Yneed sever the connection that the Aeldarii and Ynnarii have with She Who Thirsts by using the power of 4 of the 5 swords, making a pocket in the Warp where the Aeldarii souls go when they die. But since Slaneesh wants those souls, she is constantly trying to destroy the pocket, making so that the dead Aeldarii need to help with the protection of the pocket against the God of Excess. It kinda keeps the status quo of the game, while also giving the setting a BIG change that can have a Nth of repercussions (they can even kill some major characters for that).

    Since Gaewokeshop has been doing what they do best; I want to see a direction taken where some Marines and guardsmen alike display a desire to work with the Eldar to bring about a future where humanity and eldar fight on the same side. It begins with a cessation of hostilities between humanity and the Eldar, slowly a sentiment develops to reach out directly to one another and in deliberations it's uncovered that 1. The Eldar that aren't drukhari would rather not fight humans. 2. Surprised but elated by this, the imperial liaison who is flanked by ranking space Marines and guardsmen agree that they'd rather not fight the Eldar. 3. Further discussion lays out who the Eldar see as a threat and why; and the Imperium agrees and lays out who they see as a threat; to which the Eldar concur. 4. The talks end with an exchange of insignias and callsigns as well as dedicated communication relays to directly get into contact when necessary; with the aforementioned identifying markers being exchanged to denote friendly forces for if and when they run into each other unintentionally. I'd also like to see some Eldar develop an affinity for bolter weaponry; death jesters would have a field day

    It’s incredibly lore accurate that when the chaos gods win an imperial servant deploys the terminus decree. We are all proud of shy for ending chaos once and for all

    I like the Ynnari bc
    1) it saves you from having to make 3 separate armies; you can just take what you want from the three main factions and field it. I hope one day we get an Exodite killteam or something for that faction as well
    2) The storyline is cool to me. It has the vibes of the young, wily hero vs the evil gods and their servants. Like a classic greek tale
