to me, nearly every song in farm arrays is basically perfect, cuz farm arrays’s whole aesthetic is basically the towns and cities i grew up in, all the songs are wierd and floaty and distant and concrete and metallic and stuff. its by far my fav area in the game, it just takes me back to standing under the light gray sky and looking through the bricks and graffiti. the music, the enviorment… it feels like home…

When it comes to Aquaphobia, I actually navigated the Heart in a way that had it play in that final corridor , which maybe that was the dev's intention behind slapping it there? The song's progression really pairs with the drawn-out swim and the anxiety of running out of air. I can absolutely see how it may sound out of place when just isolated in Submerged Superstructure though, especially if you don't head in that direction.
Pretty sure I went the same way as you. Aquaphobia accompanied all the way to the end. It peaked as I entered the big chamber room. The timing was so perfect, there’s no doubt in my head that the way we went was the “official” path, for lack of better words. The song and the timings are too perfect to be coincidence

13:18 I have never once heard Distance at the toll... I always hear it, when I take the way from the scav stash up and then all the way left back to the top of the big silo. It fits waayy better there, because those rooms are fairly empty and the melancholic tone of Distance really works best in places where you can just take a moment and ponder. I'd say that the musical identity of Farm Arrays is supposed to be centered around the fact that you are approaching end game now. You are encouraged to slow down and think about how far you've come and what is up ahead. The only track that doesn't really fit into that vibe is the thread theme.
I thought the Farm Arrays threat theme fit very well. In my opinion it's the proper vibe for the threat of the vultures, wormgrass, and the open air feeling the high ceilings give me.
I really like Farm Arrays music though! I really get the aesthetic. It's lovely in the way suburbs are, or just slightly abandoned places. I think Random Fate was made for the beautiful room in Submerged Superstructure first which is why it isn't her main theme. Industrial Complex has my favourite threat in the game. It's the most 'battle' theme in the game, with only really Sky Islands and Farm Arrays coming close. It's got a motif that one of the Else themes has and this unused short ambient piece that I imagine replacing Stargazer if there was the original concept of like wraiths / echoes in Pebble's city. On the first time it's this exciting blood pumping action song as you desperately fight off enemies that you don't properly understand yet but have the confidence to at least face. When you come back after hearing the echo it gains a new and really deep meaning. It becomes desperately sad. Mist Engine will always remind me of the Aether mod. Lack of Comfort has to be my favourite song in the game :D
Garden, Fragile and Onto a new dawn all mark the beginning of the end for Rain World. That's why Garden in my opinion hits hardest. The first sight heavy element of coming out into a snowy world and then the second hit onec you play Saint.
The music in Rain World makes me feel in such a way, that i want to forget everything I know about this game and experience it all from the beginning again It's hard to explain what the concept specifically is, but I'm so utterly obsessed with the idea of exploring the bones of a dead civilization, and seeing all that knowledge and all that power become lost and forgotten as an age ends. The idea of such untold power and influence that shaped entire worlds and altered life as we know it being buried and forgotten by time is scarily melancholic, and I'm obsessed with it Eons of history that have so much impact and mean so much to the people who experienced it, and even the very environment around them being lost is kinda terrifying We think our own society to be immortal, and we go to great lengths to preserve history, but entropy will take it in the end, and all that we were, ever had or ever could be will be lost forever You can feel monumental sadness in some of these tracks, especially when you get that shot at the end of downpour where you can see the broken and collapsed cans of other Iterators in the distance where they once stood, and it's just this sense of finality to the end of a sad tale, and when the Slugcats go to get a void dunking themselves, it makes you feel so intimately aware of this one specific life in the annals of infinity, and whether it will ever know peace or not It's this monumental melancholy that certain songs in the soundtrack express so well, and it signals something that will inevitably end that you want to continue regardleds
It's SUCH a shame that Overskog isn't in the game, it sounds so _large_ and _epic_. It is what I imagine Spearmaster heard when he was journeying between Seven Red Suns and Pebbles. Such a banger song.

Here's a wall of text summarizing my reactions : Stargazer : I don't find it creepy at all. It sounds like a mix of fascination, mystery and loss. Low-key banger. Farm Arrays in general : I found most of its music really fitting. Nest in Metal has great cozy vibes, a mix of industrial and creeping life just making its way. Almost sounds a little cute, which fits the very comfy little water hole it plays in. That's the music that played as I took my Pilgrimage cyan buddy on a relaxed "beach" trip, it was a good time. It has the ambivalent comfort vibe of having a relaxing day, even though the future is very uncertain. Distance is very melancholic, which fits Farm Arrays to me. Also serves as a precursor to Subterranean, it sounds like looking...well, into the distance, towards the great fissure in the soil. Actually, when I heard it in Outskirts, I kind of wasn't very happy about that, and I found its inclusion there to be really out of place. Outskirts is relatively claustrophobic, there is no distance to gaze into. Distance is a plodding introspective melody that goes well with the long horizontal stretches of farms I tend to hear it in. Maze of soil : I agree, it's whatever Melancholy is a more defining trait of Farm Arrays than its literal function as industrial farms, in my mind. The echo of Farm Arrays has very melancholy dialogue too, talking about knowing the swaying grass she clearly loved very much still sways, even though she can no longer see it, and how she sounds at once happy to be here and sad to be in the in-between of having fallen short of ascension but unable to indulge in her favorite simple earthly pleasure, watching grass sway. It's reflected in her theme, which is the most joyous sounding, but also one of the most ethereal. I dunno, it just calls to me. Farm Arrays Threat : one of my favorite threats. I have a real soft spot for it. It features some wet organic squelching, like rotting plant matter. And the arps...I don't know if they scream Farm Arrays, but I love them, so, there. Its percussions sound very farm-y to my ears, but I can't explain why. They Say : I found this one very unfitting. In my opinion it's a Sky Islands tune. Something wavey to it, like a radio signal, and it has what sounds vaguely like chatter, or vague voices. ' Reflections of the Moon : the fact that it's structured more like a song than a diegetic hum is a bit of a problem, but it also perfectly captures the soothing calm, maturity and hopeful nature of Moon, and her unshakable serenity. To me it sounds way more like her than Random Fate. That room is one of my favourites in Downpour thanks that tune. Flutter : I feel like it was done a little dirty. It sounds very cinematic, like a climactic climb, almost like the antithesis of Polybius. It sounds like dangerous freedom, wind, and tall spindly objects. So, basically, The Mast, it should have been in The Mast. It's merely fine in LttM but I think it deserved better. Obverse of the Old Wind : got a soft spot for this one. I really love it ? It feels cozy, being all alone at the top of Moon's wall, looking at a city that feels a bit more scientifically-inclined (love that mysterious giant sphere in the middle, it ignites my imagination) than the one we see from Pebbles. Interest Pad : very low-key, but has a special place in my heart. I LOVE the Five Pebbles region, and this tune hit just right. As a lead-up to Random God, it's ominous and broody, makes you wonder what exactly you're going to meet by the end. Has a little touch of awe that I like. Unless I'm just imagining it. FP threat : that hollow-sounding percussions really evokes the infinite emptiness of space, and I was absolutely in love with the space station feeling of Pebbles. Easily the most horror-oriented threat theme, could almost underscore a Xenomorph. Dustcloud : dooooon't you dare diss that one, come ooooon. Definitely misplaced, though, done dirty by its placement. I've had a day where I listened to it on loop, perfect for brooding thoughtfully on an overcast day. Can't think of a place in the game where it'd have fit, though. Wind Chimes : oh boy. Really cemented that almost-dusky industrial tower atmosphere that made me fall in love with Chimney Canopy. Can't praise it enough. I love tall industrial districts skylines for some reason, and this song evokes that. Deep Energy : I think it's right for it to be mellow. Subterranean has some seriously cozy energy in many places, especially in those few spots where the sun pierces. Hard to explain. Pipeyard : can't fathom placing this one above Chimney Canopy ! Chimney Canopy ! Probably because I'd rank Wind Chimes in the top 5, but ah well. The Captain : it sounds exactly like its title, somehow. It has a sense of purpose, and a very technological vibe, which works for approaching Moon. Maybe could have been better placed. If Rain World had sailing like Windwaker, I'd want Captain to underscore it. The Coast : pure concentrated nostalgia. Utterly amazing ? I've listened to it a lot. Makes me imagine living in a small decaying beachtown with, like, an abandoned factory, I dunno, fuck. SI threat : sounds a bit like a California chase. California is sun-baked, Sky Islands is sun-baked. Sky Islands is also intensely dangerous. It works. Maybe it's a flimsy association but I dunno Big Open : didn't get mentioned, but I think it definitely bumps up Subterranean by itself. I was fascinated and awe-struck by the void worms the first time, and Big Open + Worm Inferno + Gold Swim is the perfect accompaniment. One of the most meaningful-sounding game music tunes I've ever heard. Open Skies : this combined with the feeling of heat and the songs of insects (in the room where it starts playing) is so cozy. Then you move into a shaded room with a big window overlooking the fluffy cloudy exterior, with great color contrast. A bit of a Mediterranean ambience, it's very comfortable. Reminiscence : might be one of my faves. It made me really emotional the first time. Personally I found it extremely wistful and almost mournful, though, definitely not happy. Especially when juxtaposed with the looming brutalistic immensity of Five Pebbles in the background. Sounds like the last good time before we all fade away, very very sad. HI threat : the understated metallic percussions feel beyond iconic. I couldn't see Sky Islands threat in its place, it's way too intense for the second region of the game. It sounding fairly Outskirts-like eases you into it with a little element of familiarity to cling onto, maybe. Have vivid memories of hearing it for the first time.
Farm arrays in C tier is OUTRAGEOUS, rain deer ride and emotional thread are the best non pebbles and void sea songs in vanilla, best threat theme in the game including downpour, I am in utter shock at this rating, you should feel bad, the scavs are going o come for you.

Actually this video was made for me as well Also I just want to say that in my eyes, a region being the lowest ranked doesn't mean the music is not good. I unironically love 95% of the ost and the other 5% is still fun to listen to. rain world unironically has my favourite ost of any media and I'm not saying this lightly, I'm always hesitant to say things are my favourites but here I don't need to!
Qanda's definitely something... it plays on repeat on a challenge called Daddy World. Dying 100 times while hearing this song has not made me fond of it. But I like most of the others.
Some extra points (I have no idea if UA-camrs see replies or not) but Reflections of the Moon does have that familiar motif if played backwards. Also Kayava and Bio-Engineering are kinda tied for me. I wish the latter was as popular as the former.

For some reason, kayava seems to fit for me. I don't know if it's a consequence of where it plays, but I always have thought of it as the "theme song" of squidcadas, and it fits that quite well in my opinion.

Farm arrays in C tier is OUTRAGEOUS, rain deer ride and emotional thread are the best non pebbles and void sea songs in vanilla, best threat theme in the game including downpour, I am in utter shock at this rating, you should feel bad, the scavs are going o come for you.
Also raindeer ride plays whenever you first have a raindeer take you somewhere, not hunter's starting room.
After finishing the video I think outer expanse being below garbage wastes actually broke me mentally at first this comment chain was a joke now I'm actually going insane why is industrial in third place above sky islands why is outskirts so high this makes no sense

I actually really like the dark, ambient songs in Five Pebbles and especially in The Rot. I would probably put both regions in my top 5 for the music.

Also I just want to say that in my eyes, a region being the lowest ranked doesn't mean the music is not good. I unironically love 95% of the ost and the other 5% is still fun to listen to. rain world unironically has my favourite ost of any media and I'm not saying this lightly, I'm always hesitant to say things are my favourites but here I don't need to!
Qanda's definitely something... it plays on repeat on a challenge called Daddy World. Dying 100 times while hearing this song has not made me fond of it. But I like most of the others.
Some extra points (I have no idea if UA-camrs see replies or not) but Reflections of the Moon does have that familiar motif if played backwards. Also Kayava and Bio-Engineering are kinda tied for me. I wish the latter was as popular as the former.

I disagree with some of your rankings, but am pleasantly surprised how serious this video is; I thought it would be a joke.
For some reason, kayava seems to fit for me. I don't know if it's a consequence of where it plays, but I always have thought of it as the "theme song" of squidcadas, and it fits that quite well in my opinion.

i HIGHLY disagree with your analysis of random fate BECAUSE. i think it was made specifically for Submerged Superstructure, in the same/similar place it plays in past lttm. random fate sounds like the wheezing breaths of her structure trying to keep itself functional and this song almost made me WEEP. i heard it first doing monks cloak mission, and nothing has gotten me more than being this little animal, climbing through an overgrown and empty structure with marred white walls with THAT SONG playing. it fits PAINFULLY WELL and i think the parallel with random gods is meant to showcase the story. her fate was "placed in the hands of random gods".IT HURTS SO BAD AND KFHWEDFWEKDFNKWDHCNSKDE i needed to get it out that song KILLS ME it STINGS it AUUHHHGGGGGGGG
