That’s awesome! I’ve bought same protea flower and stored it in a jar for a month - now it suddenly started to grow new buds on top. Gonna try to root it
A great educational video, everything was clearly explained. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I look forward to your future videos. Thanks again, well done. MK
Well done! Good idea to use a well-established plant as a “mother plant.” It’s incredible that you have taken that many cuttings from your mother plants. A big thanks for the inspiration.
Thankyou for a very informative video, very easy to understand and follow. I am in Australia and I have a beautiful well established King Protea in my front yard, it measure roughly 2metres tall. I am wanting to take cuttings from it, and had no idea on how to do this. As we are now in Spring, i can see a couple of perfect places to strike from. I will be watching more of your Videos, Thanks again ..
Hi Jason I would love for you to reply and answer the comments..it would be helpful because a lot of your viewers have the same questions. I realise it would require extra work from you but this is such a great informative video that my only critique would be a lack of response from you on the comment questions. Also, can you post the link you mentioned in your video in the comment section about ‘how to take care of your new seedlings. Thanks Jason. The Protea is our National Flower in South Africa and our cricket team are named after them.
Love your work, I hope you do another video soon, would love to see an update on how things are coming along with your plants that you've planted out and talk more about proteas in general.
G reat thanks that is most helpful. It is Summer here now in New Zealand so I'll wait until it cools in March before I start to take cuttings from our Protea which has fallen over.
I sow a few seeds 3 weeks ago and a few of them are sprouting. How old do you recommend the plant should be to start getting cuttings from? Or what rule do you follow? Do you have a new channel? I haven’t seen new videos, I love your videos! Thanks for your time and effort
What about watering? After rooting powder when you stick it in soil, is the soil already moist? Do you water it before so that it doesn’t disturb the rooting hormone? I have a cutting now someone gave me. I have soil and rooting powder but not sure about the watering
Didn't understand how you used Hormex , I thought the cutting goes into water first then dipped into powder, you said you added water to your hormex is that correct?
Thanks Jason. I tried and mine didn’t strike due to extreme heat. Questions for you. Which wall should I place them. Will they like the the morning Sun? Should I place them under small bush to have filtered Sun ? How often do you water them or mist them?
I got some High Gold leucospermum cuttings and followed your instructions. Assuming I'm successful at rooting it, how long will it take to bloom? I read somewhere that it might take years! Just curious your thoughts.
Thank you for this video! Proteaceae lover from Australia here, and thanks to your tips I managed to propagate a few cuttings from my Leucadendrons and King Proteas. Out of interest, have you ever tried other Proteaceae from Australia like Banksias and Grevillea? They’re pretty rewarding too, and mostly grow in similar climates…
I have some very old protea , they still flower well, but i have been told that they will eventually age out. Can we take cuttings from old proteas , they are dying back but also putting out new shoots
I cut some of my lucadendron to use in an arrangement. They’re now going on 5 months in the vase and have new growth. Can it propagate them and how would you recommend I do it?
Thank you for the helpful video! I was wondering, could you use Sunshine Mix #4 during these 4-6 months? Would you need to add fertilizer in this case?
Hi there! Can you give some advices on taking care of leucadendron? Mine just get very dry and looks like it is dying... the leaves are dry and drooping.. thanks so much!
Hi, I’m new to your channel, in this video you ended with “the seasons right”. (For propagation). What season is that? I live an hour north of Santa Barbara and things are just beginning to bloom. It’s mid December. Thanks for all your help. C
Hi that branch up I've got a branch with a flower on it was given to me as a gift and I wanted to get roots from it and get it to grow what do I do about the huge protea plant at the flower at the top
When should I water the new cutting. Could not see your response to the same question someone else has asked also. If I water it straight away does it effect the hormonal liquid? Bit confused 🤔
Thanks Jason - this video is great! Watching this all the way from NZ. I have 2 questions I'm hoping you can answer: Do you use river sand or is finer beach sand ok? Have you ever had any success in propogating in water? Prior to finding your video I tried a couple of cuttings both in potting mix (big fail - it died within days) and water. The ones in water are still quite healthy looking but there is no root growth (it has been about 2 months). I used a rooting hormone after cutting. I have just followed your instructions on some more cutting so hoping for some success with those. Unfortunately we have to pull out our Protea tree so hoping to grow some babies..
Hello, can I root Protea, Leucospermum, Leucodendron cut flowers from the florist's? Thank you for the answer. I live in the Czech Republic, the only way to get Proteaceae here is get them as cut flowers :(.
Hi, not sure if aware but the lower part of your video is blurred out so we can't see the table you are working on, also can't see the smaller pot.......
Hi from Kentucky! I have 3 proteas and wanted to know if they would be better suited inside because our summers can be extremely humid. I have plants growing in a specific part of the house and they receive morning sun. Your help and input would be greatly appreciated. Also, are you planning to sell your proteas from your mother plant? God bless and take care!
as long as they get good air circulation, they should be fine! try to not water as much. and we will at some point, our stock is still coming along thanks!
Great video! I’m in coastal San Diego and have found that after 3 years in ground, my leucospermums have done great, my leucadendrons are OKish, but my proteas have yet to flower. (Didn’t manage to get my banksias in ground before they bit the dust.) Any thoughts on why/how these species behave so differently in a garden landscape? Advice?
Im from cape town south africa and really despise banksias grevilleas and waratahs with a passion.... Probably because we hate the aussies.... i can grow proteas here with ease... its like just popping them in the soil and off they go.... My grandmother use to grow them in her garden.... i remember going to her house, close to the sea shed have tons of it... they were just growing wild i think.
So you leave these plants in soil for three to four months and never give them any water at all until they root? What happens if you water them before they root?
I can clarify. so we are definitely watering them every so often. the goal is to keep the soil at a medium moisture. if your soil dries completely, your cuttings WILL fail. the consistant routine and maintaining moist soil will bring you success. Thanks! -Jason
Hi Jason -I sent you an email but guess it went to your spam-maybe check if you could ? also wondering -your first cutting video you dipped the stem in a liquid and then a powder rooting hormone -now you just use the one extra strength -is this your new preferred method ?? thanks !! love the videos!
I tried these tips and 4 out of my 6 plants rooted!!! Thank you so much

What's the best time of year to take protea cuttings for rooting?
Thank you. Very helpful information and well done video. I’m new to proteas, here on the Big Island, Hawaii.
Can you take cuttings from protea all year round or is there a specific time of the year?

Enjoying your videos. I'm in Australia and have a temperate climate. Really keen on propagating Proteas etc. Not sure if you're still active now.

Hi, thank you so much for the info...
Can I cut multiple cuttings off 1 mother plant at the same time?
What is a reliable place to look up the patent information? I try using Google but can't always find the information.
What season does the cutting get done please? Is autumn fine in a warm climate?
how long does it take, on average, for the cutting to root?
great video, thanks, I have to try this method with my Waratha (Telopea speciosissima)
Great information! I notice you didn’t water the new planting. Do you water at first planting?
Thank you so much for all your wonderful tips and willingness to share such valuable info about proteas. How would one order a sweatshirt?

Can you explain your 45 degree cut? Is that right across the bottom or is it a cut into the plant up from the bottom?

I would like to know if you plan to sell your transplant king protea?
I lives in northern CA

Thanks for your informative video. I have previously done some cuttings using a standard potting soil. What are your thoughts on that?

The wood you are using for cuttings how old are they,,,they dont look like new growth ,,
i would say enough for the wood to be rigid but not woody, typically 6-8 months
