When Roger brings up Hodge barrels as being a great barrel. What distinguishes Hodge from say a centurion. Are the metals different and or material? Or is it the profile and chamber dimensions?
I'm not 100% in tune with the HDSI offerings but from my limited research it seems to be "Texas Space Magic" 🤣 I will note that it seems barrels are made in batches and may vary in specs. Perhaps each batch was designed for specific purposes or tunes. I'm sure that if you enter the various Hodge groups or forums then you should be able to get more information. Their products aren't in a realm of components that I necessarily "need" for what I'm doing, so I didn't dive into it.
I completely understand his mindset. I've been an IT Systems Eng. for the past 20+yrs as well. You have to have an open mind, think outside the box daily to see the details and reasons why things are the way they are, and to make them better. You can't stay in the mindset of only being able to do things 1 way. Great vid bro!
I remember hearing Roger talk on a few Primary and Secondary podcasts before knowing what Forward Controls was, and thinking "this guy seems very knowledgeable, but man what a nerd". After trying out their small parts on a lower not too long after seeing one of those podcasts, all I could think is "man I love this nerd!". Roger is an awesome guy, but his business ethics and personality are just a cherry on top, FCD products speak for themselves. It's the little things that add up, and those little things are what FCD does the best. Just putting FCD small parts and LPK into a lower of your choosing is enough to go "oh man, now I get it", and make the rifle just that much better. Every rifle I modify or assemble from scratch get Roger's parts installed and honestly are to me almost a "must have" on any quality AR in my opinion. Great podcast, thanks bunny.
It's a dust cover... Don't resort to paying double for anything so insignificant as this. That just adds to the hypebeasts and scalper personalities out there and "cheapens" the brand.
@@bunnyoperator But i also believe any publicity is good publicity.. The extra hype / supply vs demand of the EPC is what caused me to learn about Forward Control..
EDITING COMMENT LATER TONIGHT I love this channel. It's informative and makes me feel smarter after each video as I always learn something new. How the fug you only have less than 2k subscribers? I love FCD and I am currently attempting to build a SBR with at least 70%. I'm missing the rail (I wanted the quad rail but is sold out), charging handle and the double dimple dust cover. I was in IT up until the collapse of startups and found my calling in real estate and I was glad to leave IT behind. What I hated about IT was having to get new certs every few years and anyone in IT knows how big and boring those books were. I think I would have rather been homeless than read one more book on some new certs. What I liked about real estate was being able to be with my dog a lot more and the big fat commission checks.
Algorithms don't like firearms-based educational channels that don't review hot ticket items. 😅 I appreciate the feedback. I really do enjoy communicating with folks who follow along. Good to hear that you're doing well out there. You'll find the parts soon enough. Just be patient.
Supernice guy I had a question about his Forward control Bolt release he talk to me for 20 minutes Now all my AR15 controls are forward controls great product's
God bless my Wang and you for doing this. No matter what hobby I'm into, I'm always looking for that brand that has simple beauty, extremely high function, extremely high quality, and that "it" factor, which includes looks. FCD is probably my favorite brand in the AR world, or at least my favorite for the components they make. They're that brand that is just my style that I will eventually find myself at if I search long enough and gain the experience to know what I like. He is always so funny how he always mentions looks are never part of the equation because to me, they make some of the best looking stuff by far. I'm sitting next to my Radian with an FCD Keymo muzzle device at the end of that beautiful rail next to a few other great parts on the fore end of the gun. It's like the icing on the cake and it all works so well. The Cygnus is sexy.
@@seang1032 It's great. It's an upgraded A2 that actually looks really good and is shorter than a 3 prong flash hider. As far as flash hiding, it does a great job. If you shoot at night without a can it will have zero flash most of the time but every few shots you might get a small explosion (which is just like you get with most suppressors). Compared to a 3 prong, they both stop the flash but the 3 prong never seems to have that "detonation". However, the 3 prong offers no recoil mitigation really, but the FCD flash hider does just enough to be noticeable. A mild comp effect because of the top ports. If you want a keymo flash hider that's minimalist, does plenty to hide flash even at night, and looks good with no concussion then the FCD is a no brainer. It also turns a crispy bronze color once you shoot it with a can on which is cool looking lol.
Excellent episode! I'm a Systems Engineer and have the same "function over form" mindset. Drives my wife nuts sometimes! She always says I'm not a type A personality, but I'm type A about a few things. I really connected with Roger's personality. Nice work Jesse, I like it when you don't talk so much! ;-)
I really enjoyed this. I’ve been turned on to Forward Controls for only about 6 months and really enjoy their products. It’s interesting to me to get a back story and a little look inside his mind on products. I really hope you can get Jim from Hodge Defense and Josh from Sionics on as well. I’m super interested in hearing their stories and perspectives.
Thank you for the feedback. That's exactly my intent for this video series. I want to put faces to the name and humanize the people behind the companies. There are several folks in the queue, so stay tuned.
I miss getting my orders in a couple days when FCD was in CA, but alas, at least I got some great products and lucky I got an EPC when I did (just wanting a SBCG). #serratedgang
LOL. Dimples are sexy things. I will advise that the margins are quite low for these small products. It's the nature of retail products, so you're basically paying very close to the cost of the production.
@@bunnyoperator they are worth it for sure. I love their qc. Got the FCD Wrench and recently a 6315KM and a Duck patch, great stuff. Interesting interview.
Nice! Their tools feel like they were milled off the same block as the FCD items they're being used on.
