    I own this item, it is hard to flip and slow. It is also hard to close and hurts your thumb when closing. Oh and it loosened up after a day,, clicking and flexing in an unacceptable way.

    I full-heartedly believe that a knife with a pocket catch as this one does is the fastest way to brandish a knife [pocket catch being opposite of finger flipper]

      it's a "wave" feature via Emerson, technically. a zip tie works great if you don't mind the mall ninja vibes. any knife with a hole in that vicinity is the blade will work as far as I know

    My most favorites knives of all time? My Buck 446 with the 6" long folding blade and the camping, hunting and hiking knife I made around 1966 from an old WW1 US Military Machete that I removed the handle from welded an extension for the handle on and extended the handle out and made it a two hander! Phenomenal tool for whacking brush, limbs and small trees and came in handy for self defense too!

    The only feature missing on this knife is a reversible pocket clip for us lefties. Tactical advantage is lost if you have to deploy the knife then flip it over to open it (a feature many designers overlook). Unless of course this knife opens bi-directionally.

    My wife got me a Amazon TAC-FORCE (Fathers day) with engraved (my initials) Handle. Close to same price range.
    I carry it on my belt for almost 2 years. Use it all the time. It has 0% wobble from hilt to tip.
    I was very surprised to see how well it is made. I received a 2nd 1 the next year. 1 for the box. 1 for the belt.
    What really got me was the can/bottle opener seat belt slicer, glass breaker. I figured they would be cheap but Not a bit,
    just as well made as the entire knife.
    Excellent Video. Thanks Well, I looked all thru amazon and can not find that knife, they showed others with that

    Your grandfather’s Case knife is amazing!
    You mentioned the Eafengrow needed gimping on the flipper, and I’ve noticed most flipper knives have gimping. However, aggressive gimping on the flipper will make my finger raw from continuous fidgeting. Especially if finger flipping is the only method of deployment. I had to sand down my flipper on my Cogent because it was so aggressive and sharp it caused my finger to nearly bleed from continuous flipping and fidgeting. The gimping on the honey Badger is barely noticeable but enough there so your finger isn’t slipping. And here’s the thing, I play the guitar and have tough fingers. Maybe knife makers should be more aware of this when doing their gimping. lol

    • @BeezBlades
      @BeezBlades  2 роки тому +3

      It truly is a sweet blade!
      See. That's the thing with flippers. There's that fine line between aggressive, and none-at-all. Slipping off of a slick flipper hurts! I don't mind a little bit of aggression, if the detent isn't strong. If it has a strong detent, give me light jimping. I guess it's a juggling act😅.
      Speaking of the Cogent. What makes my finger sore with fidgeting that one is the jimping on top of the knife that my finger hits. You and I are definitely fidgeters!😅

      @@TChang888 The knife is ok but I am afraid I would have to give a three stars out of Five. My Spyderco I can open with as flick of my thumb and close it just as fast. But this knife requires more of a determined effort. Also, closing the blade requires me to actually use my thumb to disengage the locking mechanism and then perform the closing with my index finger. Something I cannot do quickly without risking the blade accidentally catching my thumb by mistake. The knife is not a bad one but it could have used a little more thought and engineering around the way it opens and closes if using one hand.

    The thing about switchblades, is that the spring power on activating the mechanism, usually a button, is in a world of its own, which a flipper doesn't have. It makes the blade more fun,more powerful and relevant to use and show off with if you have spring power behind the blade. I bought something like this from Amazon from a similiar review, if you remember the JOKER flipper knife, and it had weak flimsy action and was cheap to look at and hold. I was disappointed and said whats the point, you can get a real cheap but effective switchblade for not much money

    I dig all the symmetry going on with this knife. Even the clip is right down the middle. I noticed the blade is not exposed when closed, so in theory one could put a dual grind on it? I would think a wave opener would be a faster deployment, as it's opening coming out of the pocket, instead of getting the knife out and then deploying the blade. Hard to beat the speed of a fixed blade though lol. Thanks Beez!

    That really WAS fun! Your passion and excitement about knives is addicting. Within just a minute of watching this, I remembered that I need to sharpen my Kershaw that dulls at work on the barges. It’s a $50 dollar beater that opens super fast and that’s great for one-handed emergency rope cutting but it dulls so fast that it requires daily sharpening. No big deal. I’m looking for a more expensive knife just because I love quality knives but I wouldn’t use it for work on the barges. The chance of it falling overboard into the ocean is pretty high, it’s not like dropping a knife on land. It drops on the steel deck and slides invariably into the sea with a depressing “ploop” and it’s gone forever. Lots of our crew has lost numerous knives to the ocean gods. We lose turning bars, shackles, chains, and turnbuckles as well. Working on the edge of a rocking wet deck is a perfect place to lose anything your hand. When I see a rookie with a really nice knife, I warn him of not getting too attached to it. And never let another crew-member borrow your knife because he’ll lose it quicker than you will.
    Anyway, I love your grandfather’s old Case and even the Spider-Man looking knife is cool.

      @@jeremyjames1659, I’ll look into the Buck 110. I’m always open to suggestions. Something with a rubberized grip is what I’m thinking. Something that’ll not slide on a deck so easily. I haven’t looked, but I haven’t seen one either. A lot of the old sailors knives had lanyards on them. Those have gone out of style and most people want an all-around work knife with assisted opening but something for walking around on the street as well. I’ll look at the Buck 110 though. Bucks are classic and I’ve owned probably a dozen or so through the years.
      Thanks for your insight.

    • @Woodstock271
      @Woodstock271 2 роки тому +1

      @@jeremyjames1659, Okay, I looked up the Buck 110. They haven’t hardly changed since the 70’s and that’s a good thing. The Elite version is like a switchblade and just beautiful. Same shape as every buck folder I’ve owned and it was smart of them to stay with such a universally recognized design. I’d love to have one, but it’s definitely not going on the barge with me. It’s way too nice.
      We usually carry cheap knives that don’t hurt too much if they’re broken or lost at sea. That Buck 110 Elite would be safe and shiny in my collection at home. Or in my pocket for a fun and potentially dangerous Saturday night on the town. Nope, I don’t want any blood on that beauty.
      Very nice improvement on the classic old buck knife. I really haven’t even thought about those knives for decades. Thanks for reminding me though. I might just get one.

    • @Woodstock271
      @Woodstock271 2 роки тому +1

      @@BeezBlades, Thanks man, yeah a break away lanyard would definitely be a problem while negotiating a spiderweb of chains on a slippery wet deck. I guess us longshoremen are stuck with cheapo knives that work until they’re lost. Easily replaced with no real heartache involved.
      I’ll save my really nice expensive knives for less risky situations.
      I have a bunch of old classic knives my father gave me, in my collection. An old Case rigger’s knife with the fid on one side and a rigger’s blade on the other, that gets and stays, spooky sharp. They don’t make blade steel like that anymore. High carbon steel requires care or it’ll rust very quickly. My dad’s old Case is probably 70 years old. Still looks new. Just like your grandfather’s old Case Bowie knife. The old-timers took care of their knives and passed them on to their adult kids. I can’t imagine passing on one of my modern knives to anyone. The spring will have broken, the screws would be loose, and the blade never was very good at holding an edge.
      My dad’s old Case Rigger though, will be in perfect shape and priceless. Same with your grandfather’s Bowie.
      Modern knives are a dime a dozen and never an “heirloom” by any stretch of the imagination. They’re nice for a while, but disposable.
      Anyway, love your channel. Keep collecting and studying knifes, knowing, they usually are crap compared to what your grandfather gave you.
      Peace, brother knife lover. 🤙🏼

    Cold Steel Colossus is one of the best all around, folding knives ever made, especially when comparing large folders. I am a fanboy of the lock up mechanism cold steel uses. Is a supreme design. My Benchmade collection is the most Sheek, and beautiful, as their lock up is suburb for the use, and its super silky smooth. Then again, my heart belongs to my LT Wright(s) many of them* and a few bark rivers and one William Collins. I think the spring assist is by far the best pocket stiletto concept. It’s natural tendency is closed, so it is not a hazard to the owner while in pocket. Unlike a switchblade or front-deploying knife. And it’s just about as fast. Operating the opener is just like pressing a button.

      Ha ha that reminds me of my older brother. We three brothers were bought cheap fake perl handled pocket knives when we were young kids and my older brother ended up cutting his finger on the blade checking it's sharpness. Like you said the first thing he cut was himself. We went on to use them for sharpening sticks when making forts out in the woods.

  • @RJ-vb7gh
    @RJ-vb7gh Рік тому +1

    Correct, this is a fun knife for mall ninjas. This is anything but a useful tactical blade. If it were deep carry, had a larger hand guard and the false edge were sharpened, the knife would be much more tactical. Moreover this kind of knife benefits from being entirely blacked out so it's harder to track by the eye when in motion.
    Sadly, due to it's blade design and edge geometry it's not going to be very good for EDC use and it's likely to freak people out when you try to use it as such. Moreover a choice of steel that's tougher and less likely to break when it hits something hard is always a good idea for this kind of blade. No tactical knife should ever come out shorter than when it went in.
    I get where some reviewers always want to say something positive about a knife, but this is 2003 and there are lots of great knife designs out there at fair prices. This unfortunately isn't one of them.
