I have a couple of auto knives, but this video really lays it out and answers so many questions. This guy is a great teacher! Thank you so much!
Yepper, he gives the perfect info w pertinent features. Knife videos are the only ones that I watch almost twice in one sitting.
Been collecting knives for 20 years. If you're interested in the buck 110 Auto it's a great knife if your going to carry it in a sheath, it cannot stand the smallest amount of debris, if you carry it in your pocket it will gather pocket lint, dust, dirt etc and it will jam. Solid knife if you're going to carry it in a sheath.
I like the band-aid on his thumb, kinda shows how committed he is to his craft.
You did a terrific job picking the best and explaining them. Thanks- much appreciated!
I watched this video for no reason other than wanting to know what a switchblade is, I'm not in the market for one and I don't really care about them yet somehow this guy made it entertaining enough for me to watch the entire video. Now that's good content creation
The Buck 110s take my breath away... Had one since I was 13 and only custom made autos were out there for huge numbers until now... MUST HAVE ONE!!!!
“Not too bad just 140”
My budget: 20 bucks take it or leave it
You can get a decent assisted blade for $20 on sale!!! I have a few or so!!! 😁
What makes switchblades better than the assisted one's other than speed??? I like both it don't have the bucks for the expensive mofo's!!! 🤔
You will never know how beautiful a knife really is until it SAVES YOUR LIFE !
Automatic knives are good for the soul. Like when you're really stressed out, you can just open them and close them over and over, and you start to feel better. They're kind of like fidget spinners.
dangerous fidget spinners, entertainment for when you have nothing to lose
Haha i taught i was the only one 😁 Dude i am literally addicted to open and closing the blade in and out, it feels so good and satisfying and is a stress killer. I have mine on me all the time, even when i walk i can take it out sometimes because i have the urge to push the blade out!
The Hogue (Sig) Compound & Scorpion 3.5s are absolute perfection and highly underrated. I’m 44 & been collecting for 25 years with over 200 knives and these things are worth every penny. Consider it an heirloom to hand down to your son or someone.
Crazy good video, you don’t talk too slow or fast. You have good knowledge and info, you shared the prices and had enjoyable insights. I wish all reviewers took notes from you. Keep up the good work. 👍
I have the Buck 110 Hunter and I dearly love it. I practically had to sign my life away and promise my first born son to buy it, but that was a few years ago. Last year a couple of guys who hunt on my land gave me a S&W M&P OTF knife. It's very nice, but I still prefer my Buck.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve yet to find a sharper, better built knife then my 110 Buck. I recently updated to the automatic version and in love is an understatement.
I've had Buck knives for a better part of 50 years and have always loved them. My favorite and unmatched is my 122 filet Buck knife. Fileting Bluegills is an art and this knife is the best. Im anxious to aquire one of these 'switch' blade Bucks. Had no idea they were available. Thanks for your opinions!
Buck 119 has been my go to hunting knife for many a year. I love that thing.
Big problem with the pentagon knife, I've seen videos about it and it appears to damage its edge on the way in and out because it hits the sides. And it has been known to fail decently often.
Awesome video sir! Many may not care but I truly appreciated the price inclusions in this video. Not sure how this vid blessed my feed, but definitely sub’d!
This interested me because I worked at a spring company in NC and made many thousands of springs for Microtech knives
I owned my one and only (Microtech) OTF in 2016. At first it was really cool to see, hear and feel how fast the blade shoots out and in, but the novelty wore off after carrying it a very short time. In my opinion, far too many compromises are made to make that blade action possible, and for that reason I found OTF's to be a fundamentally poor EDC option.
The front of any OTF is a permanently open cavity, and it doesn't take long for pocket lint and debris to easily enter, accumulate, and then foul the knife's blade and internals. If you're looking at OTF's for the first time and have never used one before, be aware that even the best, perfectly clean and properly oiled switch mechanisms require considerable hand effort to deploy and retract the blade. Open and close any liner/frame/axis/button locking folder 100 times in a row and there's zero strain on your hand or fingers. But trying to deploy and retract any OTF just 20 times in a row becomes difficult before you get to 10, and will seriously fatigue your hand and wrist and quickly cause a thumb sore.
I also never liked the universally rectangular, boxy and plain looking handles of OTF knives compared to the endless variation of handle materials, designs and curves of a standard folder handle. And I'm glad DCA addressed the blade wiggle on an OTF. A deployed and locked blade should never move or wiggle, and the blade wiggle on an OTF is so pronounced and noticeable that's it's more accurate to call it blade slop. But worst of all, these drawbacks come with a very expensive price tag. I much prefer carrying and collecting a standard flipper/ thumb stud or assisted folding knife with a rock solid blade lock.
I'm handicapped so I was able to carry an auto before the laws relaxed. That being said, I've had a Cobratec stiletto for years with a lifetime warranty and I love it. I didn't see any in this list and there really should be.
Because they're budget autos that's why, I don't personally own one but heard good things about them.
I love my Cobratec. Surprised more reviews aren't covering them. Awesome knives.
@@cliffmichelle2981they’re made in china with cheap materials. Look it up my man.
The worst thing about most "budget" knives is that the damn screws always strip out and vanish, talk about a pain in the ass that leaves you feeling naked because if you don't have another knife on hand to immediately replace it. I say this about budget knives because that is the world I am in.
Take the knife apart when you get it and put some red loctite on the screws. They'll NEVER come out unless you use a torch. I carry an old Schrade I got as an EMT and if I lose it so be it, cost 40 bucks 15 years ago so no big loss.
@@jimmartin7881 yea, too late for that on one of my favorite knives. but good tip.
Glad that I'm not the only blade nut that feels naked in places like airports and courthouses (illegal to carry plus extremely high security and detection measures).
I go for serrated blades 100% of the time. Gerber has always held up nicely for me. Use in the winter for my trade exposes the knife to salty brine water at times when snow removal. Gerbers have stood the test of time through the years for me with minimal oxidation at an affordable price.
Is that blade serrated on 1 side or both sides! My personal preference would be the double-sided serrated option.
WHY !!!? I don't see the need for it . I'm 76 and carried a knife for 70 of them . Never needed it . Please explain it to me .
@@rosscronkhite9722 same here...the serrated are a pain to sharpen as well.
@@markedfortime yeah, I mean it's got it's purpose but it's really hard to make it look right when sharpening by hand. Straight edge more my style.
Imo serrated knives are for tactical blades- for everything else, a sharp plain edge works perfectly.
I got a 06 Auto issued to me in the Corps. It's a beast plane and simple. You can't break it. The action is slow and you have to clean it every now and then. A drop of oil speeds it up.
Nice clean production set, and a huge thanks for not ruining your vid with crappy background music while you're talking.
Great review! I just purchased a Kershaw Launch 1 for just around $100.00. Great deal.
Three others I would recommend Are the Kershaw Launch 6, the Protech Half breed, and the Boker Plus Falcon D2, all right around $100.00.
They were all purchased as gifts, but if I were to own one for myself, I would go with the Boker Plus Falcon D2. That's a LOT of knife for money!
I just got the Hogue Microswitch (I live in CA) from my local gun store and it's a little beast! I love it, the handle is still just big enough to grip and the shape of that blade is perfect for my EDC. It handles boxes, tape, cardboard, plastics, zip ties, etc like it's nothing. I like this little guy so much it has actually replaced my Benchmade custom Barrage for now lol
ProTec is made in California. I have a California legal auto open Damascus blade knife. Great company
From my understanding of the law, in California at least, switchblade laws only care about carrying the knives. Transporting or owning them in your home have no length limits
My EDC for a few years is a Kershaw Launch 7. Love it!
SOG,has really listened to the buyers, they have come out with really beautiful designs in 2021 and I'm really happy with the changes they have come up with ,,,SOG is one to pay attention to for sure...
Don't remember who made it , but I had a couple knives in Vietnam that actually shot the blade out like an arrow . Carried 2 or3 blades don't remember that either! Never seen anything like since. I wish now I would snuck them out .

The SOG seems to be a winner.
The Benchmade auto triage is my favorite knife I own but the seatbelt/fabric cutter starter auto deploying in my pocket from a broken release lever. It's a MIM part easy to break. I also have the exocet and love that knife!
I have the manual version of the triage, carry it for work and it's perfect. The seatbelt/cord cutter and glassbreaker are super handy for me.
All good knives here. Can't go wrong with any one of these knives, but Buck Elite sure takes top spot on list. Good Vid 😎👍
You present your knives very well.
Very excellent video, educational and well written. I appreciate this intro to automatic knives!
At the 8:25 mark, that Gerber 06 Auto looks pretty serious. The secondary safety switch to lock it closed or open was nice. I wonder how well the Gerber 06 Auto stays locked open. A spine whacking test with the blade locked open would be good to see.
I've got the Infidel. Bought it 3 years ago . I carry it everyday . The blade and handle have held up very well. Only draw back is that the spring seems to have lost a little bit of its tension. Excellent knife over all.
I'm looking at getting an OTF for the first time but am worried about the safety of the knife deploying in my pocket.
@@OVRDTHOTF’s won’t go off unless you want it too, if you’re really worried about that, Microtechs are quite a strong action and I’d recommend them.

I swear I could sit here and listen to you "Click-clack" and discuss knives all day and night. I applaud you sir.
I remember being a kid and playing with a double edge switchblade my uncle (a cop) gave to me and my brothers. We thought it was the coolest thing but my mom did not lol
9:08 Nice girthy knife chunky but in a good way kinda like myself 😂😂😂😂😂love that
I have a couple Boker Kalashnikovs. For $40, they are wonderful. Launch 5(2), 7, and 8. The 7 came open in my pocket and cut the crap out of my pinkie. It doesn't get carried. The 8 is flimsy, but really makes me think of Bennie and the Jets. My first was a Hogue EX-AO5. That's a keeper. The SOG looks intriguing. You should have a buy one get one free sale.
Agreed, the Boker Kalishnikov is the best value budget auto knife out there. I have 3 of them. My EDC Boker has been with me for 3 years now. Would love to own the Buck 110 but doesn't fit my budget. Hard to find any auto knives over the counter. They are legal in most states now. Some states have made the dagger double edge autos illegal.
So i don't know why this video came on my feed but you did such a fantastic job explaining, I actually watched the whole video. Good job sir.

Do the Ca compliant have to have the ??65 cancer warning on them? That is one FU*KED UP state!!
I have the Microtech Combat Troodon, Ultratech, and SOCOM Elite. Of all the brands I own, they are my favorites.
I own a G&G Hawk Deadlock but I'm still looking forward to that SOG. I want to see how well they compare at a fraction of the price!

No matter what kind of knife you choose to carry remember this:
"Never stab, always slice."
"Slice you'll likely go home, stab you'll likely go to jail."
Why? Because slicing is usually viewed as a "defensive" action while stabbing is usually viewed as an attack.
The Band-Aid on the right thumb is a great touch! :)
I hope someday I'll be the kind of person who can afford a 500 dollar knife.

@@johncamp7679, I have carried a Benchmade CLA everyday for almost 7 years now. It's a great knife, and autos are very convenient. I use it at least a couple times a week.
Heard ALOT of negative things about that SOG Pentagon OTF and how it was poorly designed and the blade actually contacts the sides of the handles when deploying and retracting making the edge dull before even got chance to "use" it. I hope SOG takes care of this issue because they normally make decent knives. They made the tolerance's WAY to tight to get rid of the blade "wobble" you spoke of and thus caused a MUCH bigger problem. Hopefully the 2022 models don't have this problem especially at $350
I'm surprised the Boker Kalashnikov didn't make the list. Its an awesome automatic for very little money. I do however wish to own a Microtech one day.
Loved your thorough and informative review sir. Thank you for the input!
For those who like these knives but are intimidated by the high prices, try checking an army surplus. They will often times sell knives just like these for an extremely low price. I bought a Benchmade "Infidel" like the one featured in this video for $65 last summer, brand new and still sealed in its original box from the factory, from the military surplus store near my house.
Up to almost 30 microtech knives absolutely love them!
From my perspective, the BMK 9051 is the best push button auto out there. Durable, easily cleanable and great blade steel. Good for a life time of use with class.

Guardian Tactical also deserves a mention. At least the equal to Microtech, and at least comparable quality. Less combinations on models and finishes, but definitely worth a look.
I did look up Guardian Tactical on their website and 80% of the models are out of stock. Are people all buying them for self protection?

There r people in this world that will pay anything for anything. That’s the demographic they r marketing. I don’t enjoy getting ripped off.
@@chevy4x466 No one is getting “ripped off” if they’re willing to pay the price. There are definitely some distinct differences between a $20 knife and an expensive one. Materials, craftsmanship, function, and durability. No, I won’t pay those prices but I know those who will. Get one of each in hand and do a detailed comparison. If you know what to look for you can see the reasons for the higher price but many folks who buy the high priced ones don’t have them for daily carry, they’re collectors who appreciate a high quality device. Just like guns, cars, trucks or most anything else … you can go cheap, nice, or top of the line.
@@DavidWilson-eu1mv well said. A poor choice of words by me. Let me take another shot at this. There is a consumer level that buys without considering the value equation. They want what they want and pay whatever the price is. We all owe these people, cuz value products couldn’t exist without the high profit margin consumer. These people understand there is profit margin in their purchase. I cannot afford very often to purchase an item like this, I need to stay in the value range. For myself, if I can save 70% by going less premium and still get what I need, then the reality of my finances dictates that I make that choice.
No doubt, the micro tech gave me a bit of a stiffy 😂😂😂😂
The Hogue is nice. Very cool selection. I didn't know Buck did an automatic
I bought a couple of those mikov knives with pocket clips, and I think they make a great utility knife. For lighter duty of course. They take an extremely sharp razor edge.
Very interesting I knew nothing about these and you are good explainer.
In Finland the Law prohibits you from carrying ANYTHING in the public that can be used to harm your follow man, lets say you have a SAK on you, and for some, whatever reason, the police stop and search you and find it, they will ask you why you have it, and depending on the reason they can, confiscate it and write you a fine, they can confiscate it and NOT write you a fine, they can let you keep it and NOT write a fine. The most likely option being to confiscate and NOT write a fine.
Nevertheless, dont really want to invest in a NICE TOOL when its a real possibility you can get it confiscated and fined.
Such a shame.
Enjoy your freedom to carry TOOLS 🙂
Also, the most serious violence in Finland is committed with knives, like the criminally minded would care about the law!
So stupid.

@Feathers McGraw Yes. What you do might be seen as a form of "civil disobedience", which more people should practice.
In the UK we have not been allowed flick-knives since, I think,1958, so it is interesting to see what is being made nowadays. I do question how robust some of these are, particularly the OTF, will it bend if you hit bone ? For looks nothing beats a really big traditional Italian stilletto, in my opinion, that is !

Great unbiased review but I must call you out on one misconception about automatic knives. Speaking from thirty years of law enforcement experience- a decade of which was as a tactical team member, the use of automatic knives by military and civilian emergency service personnel has been greatly over-exaggerated by the media, movies and the manufacturers’ marketing teams. No one in these professions carries an automatic knife- not as their primary blade or as their back-up. Fixed blade knives are superior in design, application, reliability and cost. Anyone who’s received any formal close-combat training will confirm this. Yes, there are plenty of us that still carry one, they make great conversation pieces but if anyone says they carry an automatic knife as their preferred choice of blade, then they haven’t been properly trained.
