    The HK USP custom combat has been my dedicated get-home handgun for over seven years.
    Many people say guns are only tools, and they’re right.
    However, sometimes you develop an attachment to a gun that has nothing to do with practically.
    That’s exactly what the HK USP custom combat is for me.
    I have an attachment to this gun that’s more emotional than logical, which is ok because it’s such a great gun in its own right.

    I carried a USP45 the last 11 years of my career. My old department finally changed to the Sig 320 this year. The old USP's were still going strong but the department wanted to get something modern. We bought our first USP's in 1999, and those first guns are still functioning fine, over 20 years later. Most of the spare parts, actually practically all of them, that I bought in 1999 never had to be used.

      And yet most of the “other” guns are in a trash heap because they were shot out. Sadly my agency carried a 92fs (mine was brand new and never had any problems). The FBI had to return their “Perfect” pistol back to Georgia because stupid slides kept falling off! My dad’s agency just got rid of their P2k’s for “custom” guns from the “Perfect” shop. All those custom features were only available on the full size and everyone got issued the 19, and the original contract was for each officer to get all 3 sizes. Instead if they want the 26 they have to purchase it themselves.

      Did your department even have to change out the springs out of your USP’s?

    • @oldesertguy9616
      @oldesertguy9616 2 роки тому +7

      @Tony Hayeck not that I know of. We did have to put stronger mag springs in them when we hung lights on them. That was a common problem when people first started adding lights. There was less muzzle flip, which made the slide work a little faster. Glock had to change their springs for the same reason. Once we did that they were pretty much bulletproof. We allowed guys to carry other weapons and quite a few went to 1911's and Glock 40's. The guys that went to Glocks usually did so for a smaller grip circumference. Some guys just wanted the newest toy on the block. Cops go through fads just like everyone else, lol

    I have the USP 9 full-size, and I'm so emotionally attached to the gun, it's ridiculous. It was originally introduced to me when I was a kid (SWAT 3, MGS 2, Rainbow Six); it was quite literally my childhood dream gun. All of your reasons are shared by many, myself included.

      I understand, bud. I am that way with the Beretta 92 series. Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, John Woo movies,etc. I thought it was the coolest looking gun ever made. When I finally bought one, I also found that it was ridiculously accurate, reliable, and just as cool as I had thought. I own other guns, but I too am far too emotionally attached to this gun. I don't regret it one bit.

      First semi auto pistol I ever bought, a German made USP full size in .40S&W in the 2 tone. By and far the most dependable gun I’ve ever shot. It goes bang every time all the time. It’s more accurate than just about any non custom striker fired gun, certainly more accurate than me. I can’t remember it ever failing to go into battery, as I’ve watched countless guys have slap the back of their “Perfect” pistol because it didn’t fully seat. Dropping the slide is 1,000% like a bank vault, nobody I’ve ever handed it to had ever disagreed with that. Some complain about the huge by modern standards controls, at least until they run it and they no long have to fight tiny controls. The biggest gripe they usually have is the European style paddle mag release. I have small hands so I use the middle finger in my firing hand. She stays in Condition 1 all day every day. Until I got a smaller EDC pistol she was my only defensive carry gun inside a Crossbreed Super Tuck.
      About the only guns I’ve found better are good 1911’s and old school CZ’s. My biggest complaint is the lack of availability of magazines.

    My first firearm purchase was a USP40 in stainless in 1997. I've had a little trigger work done and finally changed the recoil spring this year. It is the most reliable mechanism I have ever owned. I carry a P2000 daily. Occasionally, I hike with my USP40. It is the easiest shooting gun I own and far more reliable than my P226. The Sig jammed once in the two boxes of American brass ammo I fed it. The USP40 jammed in 1999 while eating steel Russian crap. The USP's just run. H&K's just run. I have 5.

Two have custom tritium night sights installed on them, along with Surefire X-400/U (green laser) 1,000-lumen weapon lights installed on GG&G pic rail adapters. 17-round, extra-capacity mags complete the picture. I have the same attachment to my fnp which is super similar to the usp. I have had it for 13 years now, and it's still my go too for daily carry and getting home. Even though it's not my only or nicest gun by far. I still love it even though the night sights are getting dim and I have thousands of rounds through it. It's never malfunctioned and the springs are still like new in the mags and they are always loaded. There is something to say about guns like that though, when get attached and comfortable with them, you become so much more effective with them, they become part of you, not an extension of your hand but like actually your hand.

    I feel exactly the same about my carry HK P30sks. DA/SA with a thumb safety. As you said; 'it ain't a glock' and that's part of the reason why I love it!

    • @johnyoungs7453
      @johnyoungs7453 Рік тому

      RC: That thumb safety is EXACTLY why I intensely dislike Glocks..! Look, none of us really expects someone to grab or snatch our gun away from us, but occasionally, it does happen. I'm 69, and I'm not so delusional as to think that "that could never happen to me..!!" Massad Ayoob, years ago, did a test wherein he put an unloaded but cocked and locked 1911 pistol in front of several gun "neophytes" who had never fired a pistol before. He timed how long it took each person to figure out how to pull the trigger & fire the gun. The AVERAGE time..? 25 seconds..!! That's enough time to either flee & seek cover, and/or go for a backup gun..! Documented fact: out of all the law enforcement officers annually in this country who are shot with their OWN gun, just over 80% of them were carrying Glocks..! Gaston Glock invented that pistol and designed it to be used on a battlefield - a "military" battlefield. An arena wherein there is little or no "civil liability". Massad Ayoob once said years ago that if he were the Chief of Police of a large metropolitan city, he would never authorize his officers to carry Glocks unless they had been trained in handgun retention classes - at the instructor level...!!
      Why? Simple. If your Glock is snatched or wrestled away from you & the bad guy decides to shoot you with it, you are well and truly fucked. A proprietary safety is there to save lives - your life..! Food for thought...!!
