  • This 1967 firebird has been sitting in the woods untouched in Alaska for decades! We take a trip to Talkeetna, Alaska to rescue this car from mother nature's grasp, and work to see if we can get it running and driving again.

    My 68 GTO sat for 46 years and the 400 was seized. Tried Marvel Mystery Oil and ATF in the cylinders and still locked tight. Poured 5 gallons of diesel in valve covers and let it sit over night and it broke it free. With the way the cylinders looked and the hood being on it I would fill it till it leaks everywhere and give it a try. It will break free and then you can fire it off. I'd bet money on it.

    I knew the door key and ignition key were different. I left my keys in the ignition of my 74 Vette and inadvertently locked the door getting out in a car wash. Called a locksmith and he arrived and just eyeballed the door key hanging from my ignition key and made me a new door key on the spot with a little file. Gave the man $50 (this was in 1978).

    I might even be able to afford that. Love the car. I was 16! I would do the minimum to make it look like a Trans Am Car from back then and pass a DOT inspection.
    15:54 THE FLOORS ARE GOOD? How lucky are you guys?
    Fill the cylinders with MM oil and then come back in a few days.

    Not a bad car! 350 2/barrel(326?), power glide, power steering, power brakes and somewhat ironically for Alaska, air conditioning. Dinged up pretty badly but not a lot of rust. Worthy project I think.
    I vote 400 Poncho mill and a four speed 😁

    • @hydroy1
      @hydroy1 11 місяців тому

      To hard to retro fit 4 speed peddles in a 67 to 69 bird, mighty tight around that area of the floor pan. ------ For power a 67 to 70 Pontiac 400 with a short shaft turbo 400 out of a Bird or GTO with a big stall converter. Bolt right in no sweat. Need to shorten the drive shaft & change the input yoke.

    My 69 Grand Prix sat for 30 years and had 2 spun bearings and it still fired up, you need to pull the valve covers and make sure you don’t have valves stuck open

    It seems they never watched a Vice Grip Garage video on how to get a old car going after sitting for decades. If your arms can't break the engine free the starter definitely won't break it free and the starter is trash.

    Pop the valve covers and loosen the rockers. You are also fighting the valves which the upper end is probably the culprit.

    Hey guys just so ya know the doors and trunk are on the same keys the ignition is another key usually it's square head . The door and trunk is round. But hey your trying too resurrect a old Pontiac. Nice . do you research on the brand you will find a lot of stuff you didn't know . Take it from a Pontiac lover they are very cool cars.

    Well with the fact that the transmission has cracked in all those places....... Maybe the front pump in the transmission is locked up, or torque converter is seized up or something? 🤷‍♀️ Have y'all tried pulling the torque converter bolts off of the flywheel and trying to turn the engine then? 🤔 Might make a difference 🤷‍♀️

    Keep the old girl original. Check to see if it is numbers matching to be accurate. The ole 326 is very stout when operating and maintained. You guys could do it with a good machine shop help. Auto transmission replacement or rebuild is basic for this model. It is a well-optioned cruiser, not a high performance racer. Good luck…!

    Pull the valve covers and heads so you have a good view of the cylinder walls, heads, valves and all..A gasket kit would be better than not knowing what shape the heads and engine are in...Transmission has to another one. I'd want 4speed trans lol
