Palpatine bragging about how he killed a sleeping man.
Fun fact: george lucas never intented this scene to happen ian just started telling a story and he just kept filming
“But not himself” I love that line, he’s literally gloating about how he murdered his master to anakin and he doesn’t even realize it
The reason Luke didn’t go to the dark side was because he didn’t hear this banger of a story.
The best scene in the entire movie. It's somewhat subtle (something quite rare in the prequel trilogy) because it's never actually mentioned that Palpatine was Plagueis's apprentice. But at the same time, Ian McDiarmid's brilliant acting clearly shows that he's relishing the memory of murdering his master.
All memes aside, this scene is really good.
I love the way that Sheev is clearly struggling to contain his laughter during this scene. Without needing to be told anything directly, we know that Palpatine is the apprentice of this story.
Say what you want about the prequels, but Ian McDiarmid gave a world class performance in reprising his role. You can tell he has so much joy in playing his character. Hate the Emperor all you want, but he definitely is always having the most fun in his role.
This was brilliant. He doesn't try to sell the Dark Side. He wants Anakin to deliberately go there on his own.
damn...Palpatine does FOUR slow evil head-turns in this short conversation...
Palpatine: "his apprentice killed him in his sleep..."
All evil head turns:
"Not from a Jedi"
“The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.”
Palpatine: Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis?
Palpatine: Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueise the Wise?
One of the most unforgettable dialogues in Star Wars. Especially ending with “Not from a Jedi.” which felt like quite a game changer. Thanks for uploading it.
Palpatine: Did you ever heard the tragedy of the Star Wars Expanded Universe?
Meanwhile, in an alternate timeline and/or a distant future...
Something I just realized for the first time when waching this...
