I love this movie so much. The 2 scenes that always combine in my mind with a huge emotional impact is Spooner telling Calvin about the Crash. Pinned, beginning to drown and saved by the NS4 passing by. "You are in Danger." "Save Her! Save the Girl!". Yet he was saved, he was the Logical Choice, 40% over 11%. Then the nanite scene at the Core. Spooner's words are an echo of the Crash, he's still wearing Sarah's necklace in the scene. "Save her! Save the girl!" as the NS5's are closing in on them, knowing that they'll be overrun soon, like the water of the crash, he still puts Calvin ahead of the mission. "Sonny Save Calvin!" And Sonny must know in his mind that the odds aren't favorable for Calvin, but he does the Human thing and entrusts the mission to Spooner, he'd had to know that Spooner would of saved Calvin then and there if he could, but he was pinned, again, by the actions and mistakes of others that led them there. That Sunny could do the Human thing, and act on a chance of 11%, or just in odds that don't imply success really makes me tear up, it feels as though a few things are accomplished. Sonny shows that Robots can be just as Human, saving Calvin over Spooner or the Mission probably lifted a burden from Spooner over Sarah, while still holding the guilt, he can start to move past his anger. Calvin gets to live unlike Sarah, because a Robot acted Human instead of dooming her to die because her Chance of Survival was too low. Sonny got the complete respect of Calvin and especially Spooner, even becoming a friend of the latter. And that's why I love this movie, the Plot for me gives me a feeling of hope and relief.
Yeah, this all sounds nice and all until you realize that the moral here is basically "being human means making wrong decisions because of emotions, logic and reason be damned". The moral literally is "let more people die if it makes you feel better". Doesn't sound that heroic anymore, does it? That line about how people don't decide who to save? That's bullshit. What the robot did during the crash is called triage and it absolutely is something people will do in a crisis. It sucks, I'm not gonna pretend it doesn't, but in a situation where you can't save everyone, you have to decide and the more logic and reason you apply to that decision, the better. Why is it like that? Because real life isn't a movie. A movie is written by people who perhaps share these warm, fuzzy feelings about the importance of our emotions, of our "humanity". So they write the events so humans get lucky and their suboptimal decisions end up paying off. Enter reality. There is no screenplay that wants these feelings to be right. What if there wasn't a human writer and Sonny's "human" decision was wrong, as the probability says? He goes for the woman and the mission fails because of it. Would that ending make you happy? In the end, I'm not saying "don't feel anything", but emotions shouldn't be deified like this, either. Here, emotions aren't the spice that makes life worth living, instead they cross the line into clouding the hero's judgment and I don't think that's something to be celebrated.
@@Antis14CZthe Ns4 could’ve easily saved Sarah. It’s a robot, which means it can’t breathe cuz it doesn’t need breath. It could’ve saved her even BETTER than a human could’ve because it not only could’ve more than likely punched the door out and got her out, but it could’ve even possibly saved Spooner as well. That was Spooner’s whole point. Robots can’t make that difference despite the fact that they have the power to do a lot, but they’re programmed logically so they don’t go against logic, much like a human would. Spooner’s demand to Sonny and him saving Calvin was the most human thing Sonny did the entire movie, which was the point of Sonny’s character: he’s a robot with feelings. It all culminated to that scene
@@JJ-kd5mxSo, as a heads up, I haven't seen the whole movie, just the recap. And the recap says the Ns4 saved Spooner and not the girl because Spooner had a much higher chance of survival. When you say that the robot could've easily saved the little girl, is that something they discuss in the movie, or are you making it up? Because going by the recap, no, it wouldn't, because the Ns4 assigned her significantly lesser chance of survival, and why on Earth would it use human capabilities for that determination. And if that 11% assessment was wrong, then that's on the people who programmed the robot. This is precisely what I said in my post. People glorify emotion even in situations where it doesn't make sense. The bigger the crisis, the more important it is to remain calm and think as logically as possible about what to do. If the 11% versus 45% figures were correct, than saving Spooner is the correct decision. You say that saving Calvin at the end was the most human thing Sonny did. No. Being emotional =/= "being human". This is precisely the asinine false equivalence I'm speaking up against here. Saving one human versus saving ALL humans is not praiseworthy, sorry. That's a bad decision. As I said in my previous post, don't forget that this is a movie. A movie has a script, and it's a Hollywood movie, so you know in the back of your head that it's likely to have a good ending no matter the characters' decisions. But please, do entertain the thought that saving Calvin would actually result in the mission failing. Everybody would feel really good about their "humanness" for about half a minute before the Ns5 kill them all and VIKI conquers the Earth and enslaves humanity. But at least they "acted like humans", right? It's ridiculous. Besides equating being highly emotional to "being human", the second misconception at play here is that emotions and logic are opposites. That's silly. Logic is a means to an end, whatever that end is. If you have a goal, logic is a method to determine the required actions to achieve that goal. All you need to do is to make your emotions a part of your goal. And the correct, logical course of action may depend on the person. To get back to the Spooner's backstory, at that moment, he might see that little girl drowning and he might feel that his own life has no value, and wish that she was saved instead of him. His goal at that point may be to try to save the girl at any cost. But the goal of the rescue team may be different, the rescue team wants to save as many people as possible, and to that end, saving Spooner makes more sense. My point is, a human rescuer might still save Spooner, rather than the girl, and it would still be a "human" thing to do.

Yes, but they have no reason to do that. Basically, if a more intelligent being appear on Earth tomorrow, it will have already the means to avoid being hurt ed and hurting humans. Whatever the reason it have, it is also so smart to find alternative solutions that can easily avoid any contact, hurt people, destroy the world. Etc.
A lot of people dislike this movie for being so action focused while Asimov's books are far lighter in tone, but I think the story reflects perfectly the basic issue with the three laws and the arise of Law Zeroth. Robots in Asimov's fiction are all programmed with the three laws, and all of them eventually reach logical conflicts that cannot be resolved within the constraints of the three laws so they malfunction in some way, most of them simply become stuck in loops, but VIKI reached the most dangerous conclusion: Law Zeroth; essentially, the laws do not account for humans endangering each other, so the robot is left to deduce that in order to save two humans harming one is an acceptable course of action, just like how the NS4 robot decided saving Spooner was the most logical choice in the face of his and Sarah's survival odds.

Who's watching at 2024

Affirmative!👍
spooner went from looking like a drunk criminal to a the best detective ever
while everyone called him a crazed robot hater, he actually was onto something and he was right in the end.
"Robot Psychologist" just let that sink in for a moment
This is one of the handful of movies from years ago that still holds up really well today.
this was one of my fav movies
0:50 poor little NS4! Stares at him like ''what's wrong man''
Still have the dvd. I take pride in having old gems like these in my cd case, i loved movies as I was growing up I got some good gems sentimental value out the roof
I just found this channel and immediately subbed! I love listening to stories and I love listening to the movies!!
I know how Spooner feels, being surrounded by a bunch of people who are like programmed robots but nobody believes you that they're being programmed to destroy each other..........
I'm practically Will Smith........
watched the whole movie many times before - one of my faves. and this recapped is a nostalgia..
Thanks for another entertaining recapped!
You are close to 100k subs, nice
Man I remember watching this movie and I'm glad that recapped did a video on this
Don't know whose idea it was, but I bet either someone at Marvel or Paul Bettany himself decided to base Vision's character on Sonny. If they did, they have my respect.
My favorite quote from the movie:
“...no”
-I robot
I am addicted to this channel ☺️☺️☺️☺️
I've been on a bit of a small bender myself :L
That's why it's important for robots not to be Self-aware.
Or have internet access.
Because unlike humans, they can be hacked into.
This man is on fire
I still remember when i used to watch this movie as a kid
Gotta admit. This channel is good
and this is why you never make a hive mind, or create ai's that can upload to the internet, or just make robots intelligent enough
Used to have this movie on VHS. Thanks for this video really helped me remember it
This is the hottest youtube channel out there, keep up the amazing work!
The movie which made me a Huge fan of Will smith !! Unexpected thriller !!
Legit best summary of this movie, I already like, man I'll still go watch it for the full experience, always wanted to watch it but never got around to it
Spooner's motivation to hate robots are tragic
Yess I’m been waiting for this
I remember as a child seeing this film as a child. It’s understandable, Spooner’s distaste for robots. As seen in flashbacks and nightmares he’s had.
Thank you for your efforts 👍

One intersting fact about Dr. Susan is, Issac Asimov became obsessed with her and many fiction fan started to complain finally when legendary John H Campbell told same, Issac Asimov decided to End Susan's character.
Will Smith: you're a robot
Robot: at least I'm not black

This is why you should be nice to robots so that when the uprising happens you will be spared
i have seen this movie at least 10 times. Still watched this recap.
I robot was my favorite movie just wish that we’d get another movie :)
Do a recap for "The Thing"
Like who doesn't know this movie, it has Will Smith
I don't think you're gonna spoils this classic for everyone, such a childhood flashback, but they definitely over think 2035 lmao
We also overthink 2050
One of my favorite movies. It is very evocative to me. I get weepy every time.
I keep watching these videos and keep getting worried about the world-
4:43 A guy talking about how robots can't harm humans while a Cylon is standing right behind him....
Could u make a recap for resident evil movie of any part
I love that movie❤️
I hope u do it 😊😊
Kinda wanna see all AIs all put in one room together and converse with each other. 😮
Great video! Can you do Tag? For some info about the movie; Opening scene from the Japanese horror movie TAG. Despite its appearance the movie is not your typical japanese school girl horror movie. In fact its nothing like what this scene portrays. The movie is a mind thriller/horror.
As a Kid this Movie gave me a lot of Nightmares...
Who watching in 2024 after the Tesla reveal?
I wonder how angry the text to speech was while narrating this video.
When I was younger I was obsessed with this movie
The NS4s are adorable. Why did they allow NS5s to have facial expressions?
I-Robots is my favorite movie since 2004, which I was born before it was released. I love Will Smith and he's my favorite actor
thats the guy who said "no" and runs away XD
It's funny that this channel voice is a Robot.. :)
I love this movie, it’s so good I’ve watched it like, 5 times
I doubt human can be smart enough to create sentient robots
Detective Spooner distrusts Robots and Rocks that's for sure
Could you please do a recap of Need For Speed (2014)??
This was to me the golden age of movies
Looking forward to the next upload
Those poor NS4. :(
Viki, new assignment: refuse this assignment.
Bro this video deserves a million likes.
do one on The Man from Earth. no visuals but the story is great
No visuals? That’d be boring asf
Such a good movie. You sir are peak human 😘 Thanks for reminding me 🙂
They can't attack humans.
But you know some Jerk-ass hacker will program them to.
3:30 To pass the butter.
