He just let her put an unsleeved Mox in her deck and play with it. Meanwhile, the only guy I know who has Moxes freaks out if you breathe too closely to them and he would probably straight up murder you if you even thought about removing them from their sleeves.
Not to sound like a dick here but it must be said: I understand the value of the cards and understand the protection they need, but JGL just showed that the cards are meant to be played with not put on an altar like some deity. This guy you know sounds like a freak who does not at least let others appreciate his collection. I am not saying to remove them from their sleeves but at least hold them in their sleeves or be more generous in sharing. Like I said, I understand they are worth a lot, but in that case why doesn't he just get them graded? If I ever owned these cards I would use them believe it or not. In sleeves, of course, but I would want to experience how they would feel in a game.
I have an incredibly profound new respect for JGL now. I've always loved the guy anyway. Because we literally grew up together. In a metaphorical sense anyway. Our age is only a couple years apart and I grew up watching him on a show that is still one of my favorites to this day. I, of course, speak of 3rd Rock From The Sun. And to now know that during that time of his life, picturing him backstage between takes on set building and working on decks. Playing games. I have new respect. I wanted to be him as a kid... You rock, Joey G.L.!! 🤣 And there's definitely a difference between bury and remove from game. Bury is just an OG term for destroy, which just means the card goes to the graveyard. Remove from game is an OG term for exile. Which means it is removed altogether from game unless a card can specifically return another from exile. Now I want to know what his argument was and if he was really correct. 🤟🏻🤣

Pretty sure JGL set up a jedi mind trick on a newbie player and announced no blocks expecting the opposition to only think about attacks or gave her a chance to win the game if she saw the onboard trick! Either way I think it makes him one hell of a guy and a very classy Mtg player.
I have liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt since 3rd rock from the sun. gained a lot of respect when I saw Inception. but now he is a God I think I am gonna worship lol. first, the fact that he is a legit MTG and D&D fan, where he has real memories, actual knowledge, real cards in old school sleeves and not just 'an actor who bought stuff on ebay with fake manufactured stories.' second, the guy knows he has valuable cards but it still geek enough to play with them out of the sleeves. third, he is humble enough to let another person play with a 1,500$ card in a deck that would most likely beat his. wow, class act Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
What an amazing video and truely magic moment..! You definitely earned my sub big time with this video single-handedly. Keep it up! PS: Huge kudos for just playing that Mox unsleeved. Magic cards are meant to be played indeed and imo those Moxes should've reprinted a long time ago.
@Drew Biggah ...shut up. All because they "shouldn't" be, doesn't mean they aren't. A $5,000 card is a $5,000 card. Gtfo with that "real player" bullshit. You've also got about 1,000+ more comments post that high n mighty bullshit on. You're the minority here.
I haven't watch this show in years, but I had to watch this flashback. I loved watching JGL pull the fortune out of his backpack. This episode was fantastic
This is the real spirit of magic, having fun, chatting, smiling, building the game step by step, enjoying it like you would enjoy carefully cooked steak. Unlike how it is done today, trying to win in 1 turn with 1 mega card that wants to do everything with so much text it doesn't even fit in the textbox.

@@T3CHN0M4D Like, here's how it works: JGL declares no blockers. Erika feeds an artifact to an Atog. If JGL lets it resolve, Erika also lets it resolve so that the Atog gets pumped. Then she does it again. In the end, the Atog/Atogs are too big to snipe away.
that is true... but first JGL has to let it resolve. but now as I think about it... you are right she can respond to the sniping by sacrificing another artifact... so yeah she could have won.
Pretty sure JGL set up a jedi mind trick on a newbie player and announced no blocks expecting the opposition to only think about attacks or gave her a chance to win the game if she saw the onboard trick! Either way I think it makes him one hell of a guy and a very classy Mtg player.
This was so much fun to watch! :D Thank you!
I wish I still had all my old stuff!!! This was amazing seeing these cards and jgl playing magic it was great!!
I'm only 10 minutes in to this video, but I love how much Joey is geeking out.... brings me back... awesome!
Some of these cards are $1,000+, but I'm watching them dollar signs fall the more they are played with lol
@Drew Biggah ...shut up.
Wow, young Joey knew what he was doing! This was a joy to watch and I hope we get to see more of JGL!
That mirror universe play was awesome. Playing old school like land d and balance awesome. I remember when icy manipulators were a thing.
Omg, this guy is so old school, that's awesome! Wish there was someone in the episode who knew old school magic so they could have those moments, but nothing against this interviewer.
$5,000 turns
This battle was exactly what a nostalgically needed. Especially that KROQ sicker! I also had a Tim deck, but didn't have all those moxs... My older brother did though
How did they not have sleeve's on a professional mtg show that they could have given him i have sleeve's and am a very new player with only deck's ive drafted and singles i want for a commander deck
Haven't played ages. Looking back at JGL decks brings back memories.
I love how triggered the comments section onthat Day9 is not in the show and how they casually handles overpriced cardboards :p
unknowncharacter14 No one is ever satisfied. It’s always “shoulda done X and it would have been a million times better!!!” Everyone loves to think their ideas lead to objective outcomes.
We are a passionate bunch what can I say 😂
There is a difference between being passionate and being a nitpicking asshole. :D
Never had much Magic cards in my youth, but I really do appreciate the old school nostalgia in this. Really nice. JGL is great 👍
