In the Name of the Father Trailer - Directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Philip King, Nye Heron, Daniel Day-Lewis, Anthony Brophy, Frankie McCafferty. A small time thief from Belfast, Gerry Conlon, is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people while he is in London. He and his four friends are coerced by British police into confessing their guilt. Gerry's father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. He spends fifteen years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence.

Now 64. Born in Belfast. Now in Australia. Watched this film 30 years ago. Need to pluck up the courage to watch it again
At 52 and an Irish American, I literally cry every single time I watch this.
And do you support Palestine?
"get your hands off me, I'm. going out the front door with Gerry"
Terrible US trailer for an incredible movie.
lafillenoir Except they played Pride by U2
@@eaglesfan226 You mention Pride but not Like a Rolling Stone? hu-ah!
U2 makes it even worse 😂 no one in Ireland likes Bono
@@86sineadw Bono is Irish. He did a song about Bloody Sunday of January 30th ‘72.
@@eaglesfan226Doesn't mean he's liked?
Little makes me cry while watching movies but Pete Postlewaithe as Giuseppe, is a rare exception
This is one of the movies that you can not watch twice since it hurts so deeply..
The movie is beyond description, cried so much
Just amazing🔥
For me that movie is Sleepers, it's traumatic
Yes, I couldn't watch it a second time. The first watch traumatised me for weeks. Those poor poor souls 😔
I completely agree, such a great movie but too painful to watch twice.
@@tru3293: omg..!! Same here..!! Could only watch it that one time back when it came out … 😢💔❤️🩹💔 😵💫😰😭😖
I trusted Daniel Day-Lewis & he didn't disappoint...what a movie...
Fine cast, Great performances...Solid Movie about Justice.
Still in my top 20 of all time brilliant films . .and one of Pete Postlthwaite's finest roles.
I liked him in The Usual Suspects too.
This movie was True England is terorist country
Universal in the name of the father is absolutely fantastic. Daniel day Lewis as Gerry conlin really captured the story very well. Jim sharidan is one of my favorite directors . This definitely deserves to be in theaters again .
Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen

HighVoltage Shock
I Agree
This movie is outstanding. Hard at first, but otherwise thumbs up. Movie posters and home media covers made it look like Sir Daniel is looking straight at you. It makes me want to say "Stop staring at me."
Such an outstanding film. I still remember watching this in theaters when I was a college sophomore back in 93 and recommend it frequently.
Astonishing film, makes me realise just some of the reasons the Irish and Scottish have for hating the English
Oh i didn't know anybody didn't hate the english..
@@brentmoore5568 literally every single country that has been invaded by England hates them
Perhaps read a history book before equating the Irish with the Scottish and assuming hatred. At points in history, the English have treated the Irish very badly - then again, in some respects Ireland did not act very honourably during wwii. In general, it is stupid to think this one example is representative of how the UK treats people. All states behave badly at points, but it makes no sense to say this film is representative of the UK in general

I watched this for the first time today to watch to kill time during my inflight plane ride.
Very powerful & emotional.
How Daniel Day Lewis lost that Oscar to Tom Hanks blows my mind.
Well Daniel Day Lewis was up against some real competition at the 1993 Oscars
Tom Hanks for Philadelphia
Liam Neeson for Schindler's List
Laurence Fishbourne for What's Love Got To Do With it
Anthony Hopkins for The Remains of the Days
Any one of them could have won the award and richly desevre to win.
Liam Neeson was odds on favorite to win but if i was voting.
I would have gone with Laurence Fishbourne as Ike Turner..
One of my favourite movies...stellar acting by everyone.
A brilliant film, I saw it in the cinemas on release, and have watched it a dozen more times on VHS/DVD and BR since.....
I heard every one who knew Gery Conlin knew he couldn't successfully pick his nose let alone build a bomb, so they were really outraged
Powerful and wrenching -- thank you Gerry Conlon
I first watched this film when In 96,or maby 97.still watch if now, 2021.and still makes me cry😭😭. Brilliant film.
Sheds a light and an interspective on what my Great GrandMum had tried to paint the picture of that time. Whenever I see this film and hear the sound track it reminds me of her.
I'm a free man and I'm going out the front door
Saw numerous clips from the movie. Looked like a great movie. Bought it and was not disappointed. Great movie, performances and soundtrack. Sad to know there are people that just want a conviction to feel good instead of getting the right person/people
This is my favourite film by Jim Sheridan he got a fantastic cast and a powerful script as well
非常好看的電影!
A fantastic film!!!
I'm Irish and I don't hate any nationality. I don't hate. It was dreadful beyond belief but you shouldn't hate.
Absolutely agree. I'm Irish born to Irish parents. But grew up in England from age two. Good and bad in both countries.
To me, this was an issue of corrupted power, rather than an issue of nationality. One of the Guildford Four was English after all. I think the corruption in the British police was probably widespread back then. Power-hungry sociopaths. But many British people think so too, and are horrified by miscarriages of justice.
Best wishes to you
Daniel Day Lewis
The great actor
Terrible trailer for a good movie
Nothing is terrible when a U2 song is involved.
I thought the trailer was good. Makes me want to see it.

great Movie. Long time since I saw it.
Yes, they were freed from prison after 15 years, but they had a hard time adjusting to normal life after that.
Nobody was sent to jail for the wrong convictions but I hope everyone involved in that especially the detectives get their karma. If some of them are dead I hope they are burning in hell, what they did was as bad as killing someone.
Thank goodness i watched the movie before I saw the trailer.
Surprised the British Government didn’t try and ban this movie
The best movie I have seen in my life. Just amazing !!!!
Classic movie!
Magnifique film
GREAT Movie and great soundtrack too!
R.I.P. Pete postlehwaite :)
One of the best films I have ever seen - this trailer is crap.
Amazing Movie
RIP Gerard Conlon.

La mejor pelicula de todos los tiempos!
Why do trailers date so much quicker than the films themselves
Lmao the U2 at the end really doesn't sell the type of movie this is

British history at its best!
Watching this tonight
where can i watch this
brillant Movie
This is the most scariest situation anyone can be in, to live in prison and be in the judicial system.
I don't know how the police who framed these poor innocents sleep at night.
Don't worry though, nobody gets away with these things - everyone has to meet their maker in the end, and give an account of their actions.
good movie

Great film but there’s something kinda off with this trailer makes the movie seem more like an action or thriller.
Love from dublin Conlans
I can't believe the cops that pinned all that that on them got acquitted. They perverted justice, lied, beat suspects and picked them simply because they were around. The bastards X(

It’s so weird to use an American voice as narrator.
“Three British police officers - Thomas Style, John Donaldson and Vernon Attwell - were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, but each was found not guilty.”---------Wikipedia
WTF??!!
I just watched this again,
Man its still gut wrenching,.furak the British law system, horrible dogs
Brilliant movie, however it's a shame they got the incorrect men
They knew who did it because they admitted to it but they never did squat because it would of been a rightfully outrageous scandal of the rule of law and expose the law system and police institutions of blatant racism & bigotry towards the Irish.
Worse still, they knew they had the wrong men.
Father
Awful trailer, the movie is fantastic

I was gonna watch it until I saw Emma Thompson. DDL is still the man.
Emma Thompson gives an excellent performance in this superb movie
What's wrong with her?
It was a limerick Irish guard that put you all in jail. There's a lot of evidence 🤳
British government is so wrong
Pete Keaveney its movies like these that got me to realize how the Palestinians are feeling the injustice Israel is done to them.
Those policemen shouldve gotten prison

@@stevegreen9460 They did not do it but were charged guilty...
ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE IRISH AND IN THE WRONG PLACE. That is racism and hate. England got karma for all the atrocities they commited, now the knife and acid attack capital of the world. That is some well deserved justice and a fit punishment for those british amad'ans.

I think Britishers should make a similar movie on red Indians and what Americans did to them
there is holes in this story that i dont buy. formostly the idea a high class working girls key fell on the floor right in frount of them just as she walking out the place and thay couldnt get her attension, then thay deside to go in there to you know just to have a lark about and thay just so happen to find 700 pounds in there... 700 pounds at that time would be proberly be round 10 grand today. this is there story of how thay came to have that kind of cash on them...? no sorry i dont buy it. gose to guilford befor the bombing sayings hes pennyless, leaves after the bombing with what would now be 10,000.
It's a movie, don't take it at face value. The court scenes are beyond a joke. When the Balcombe Street gang were arrested in 1975 they told the Met that they were responsible for the Guildford and Woolwich bombings, not the four who'd been convicted.
Guilty as fuck. Up against the wall.
Whose side are you on?
Daniel, Emma and Pete: wonderful performances!
