A very strong year--what a contrast to the awful cartoon films now. Day-Lewis' speech is a model of graciousness, lack of egotism, and appropriate brevity.

Daniel is a true gentleman. He has tons of natural talent without having an ego, he stays humble and true to himself, he’s full of class and dignity, and always keeps a positive respectable image. He’s a true role model and a good-natured man. 😊
As a person with cerebral palsy myself, Daniel Day-Lewis' amazing portrayal of Christy Brown was nothing short of phenomenal, in my opinion. How beautiful & achingly sad his performance was. When he mentioned Hugh O'Conor as Young Christy deserving half of his Oscar, he was so right. What a tremendous performance Hugh O'Conor gave. Kudos to Brenda Fricker as well, who also won Best Supporting Actress that year as Christy Brown's devoted mother. Simply amazing performances all around.
What a cool guy... no wonder everyone loves him. And obviously he is a hell of an actor, he really gives every role his all, it's an honor to watch him act.

He was nervous and overwhelmed. In later interviews, he described how overwhelmed he was and the fact that his blood rushed to his feet (which is why he walked really slowly and methodically up the stairs to get to the stage.) Bad case of nerves and shock.

DDL's performance was magnificent. Second to none.
Born on the 4th of July, Driving miss Daisy and My Left Foot...wow what a year!!
Any other year Cruise or Freeman would have been a shoo in!
Ok Sir Daniel day Lewis might be my grandpa's age but I must admit with no hesitation he can make anybody fall for him... What an amazing actor please watch the "Age of innocence" and "Phantom thread" one will know what I'm talking about...
Absolutely well deserved and it's much more than a golden statue itself as he reachs the peak in terms of acting in the motion picture business! In my opinion, he should have won the best acting prizes for every single movies he worked in! I want to be him for many many years, and hopefully see him one day. Looking forward more of your work in the future Mr. Daniel Day Lewis! Bless you!
daniel's performance in this movie was probabl;y the best i've ever seen....phenomenal
Just look at the other actors reactions even they knew his performance was a masterpiece
did you all notice the other nominees when the award is announced. lol 1:31
Kenneth Branagh lol.
I am Irish and saw this as a kid with school in the theatres. I was shocked when I saw Daniel on the news months later as an able-bodied man accept the Oscar. I was convinced he was a disabled actor trying to portray Christy Brown (truly unbelievable performance).
There will probably never be another talented actor as genuine as DDL.
*Pete Postlethwaite deserved one also, what a blistering performance from these amazing actors.*
if it's possible he looks even better now
''You've just provided me with the makings of one hell of a weekend in Dublin''
That one line makes me proud to be Irish.
He really deserved it. The weight of the nomination and the nominees' reactions validated it.
Daniel Day-Lewis is a class act!
