I have been trying so many things to do a good grid planning tool, thank you for showing that because it is exactly the type of tool I need in my revision process :)
OMG, I was watching videos and searching blogs about the "best writing software" ....I finally searched "best plotting software" and found this gem. EXACTLY what I was looking for! This need to be shouted/advertised from the rooftops!
Thank you so much. I've been searching for a good (and free) writing software that would fit my absolutely chaotic crative process. So far, this is the best that I've tried.
@@CarrowBrown So far I have set up 5 novels already. I'm also exploring the grid bit a little now, Your explanation of that made a few things click together for me. :-)
Another great video! I've learned so much from you lately! I've been using Scrivner and am not "in love" with it so I think I'll give this one a try for my new project. Thanks, Carrow!
You don't need Wavemaker or Google Drive to sync everything. I use MEGA (mega.nz). This is a free cloud storage service (15 GB for free account) that creates a folder on your C drive. Everything is automatically synced all the time. You never have to upload or download anything; just open, edit and close, and those changes are reflected on every device that has MEGA installed and logged into your account. I looked at yWriter7 and I'll probably start with that one.
Your video is instructive, and I am considering Wavemaker after using Scrivener for about two years. For me, Scrivener is merely an electronic typewriter with a few nice features when editing. My only gripe is the color palette of Wavemaker. I'd like to change them.
This was very interesting. I had pretty much decided that when I start a new story, I'd try this program. This video clinched it for me. It looks like it's worth a try. The only thing I haven't figured out is if there's an ios version. That would really help since I sometimes like to write using my iPad.
Thanks for letting us know about this! I have had several people at writing groups tell to me about scribner but never tried it because it’s like $200. I’m definitely going to download this and test it out. One thing about writing programs. If people want ms office for free to get word most colleges offer it free if you are a student. I was just shopping at Walmart while listening to this on my phone and it made me curious to walk over to electronics section to see how much ms word costs. They have cards there and they are all “one year subscriptions” ranging from 70 bucks to $230. Why pay if you can get it free? If you aren’t a college student or your college doesn’t offer it LibreOffice is free. They also have a free excell spreadsheet type program. Not sure if they have a PowerPoint alt though. But it’s available for windows, Linux and mac.
For your future reference, Scrivener is only 40 dollars, not 200. As far as Word is concerned, Most people also just do the monthly subscription for Microsoft because they are doing away with the buy once and be done system. LibreOffice is pretty awesome and I have used it in the past, but I've stuck with google docs just because I can access it anyway.
There's an interesting free version of Microsoft office called WPS office. For Mac I believe it's only a 30 day trial or something but permanent for Windows. The only thing is with the Windows version, there's a tiny advert in the corner but that's it. It's well-worth a look at if you want a free alternative to Microsoft Office. It provides a version of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Thanks for an informative video. There is much to like about Wavemaker (it is very responsive) though it has its shortcomings - for example, using the grid planner is a one-way tool, because there is no way to get the information from there into the body of your novel; there is also no character/location/object list. I too, am searching for a piece of software that allows me to work the way I want. I completed my first novel using Scrivener (Windows). I found Scrivener to be execrable (I bought the book on how to use it and just got so sick of "Apple-only" features); the second with WriteItNow which I felt was wonderful, but was a Windows program and I am heartily tired of Windows. I currently seek a Linux-friendly application. Bibisco is perhaps the best alternative although Manuskript also has a lot going for it. WIN, Bibisco, and Manuskript all have Windows/Mac versions, but only Mansukript is currently under development.
That is a lot of good information, thank you for sharing it with us! I feel like every writing program out there has some kind of shortcoming in some shape or form. If I had the ability to program something, I would -_- I suspect more writing programs will start to show up as there is a growing market for it, but we will see!
You're welcome, Carrow. And I agree regarding shortcomings. One issue is that because the market is so small, often the applications are just one-man-band affairs and once the owner/creator stops development, that's it. Sometimes - like with WriteWay Pro and Freewriter - they're then offered free to whomever wants them. Yesterday, I took the plunge, spent 12 Euros and bought Bibisco - I think it's worth it - so now I can freely write in Linux. I'll keep an eye on Wavemaker though.
@@CarrowBrown You do not need to be able to program. You can write "Issues" here github.com/mayasky76/WaveMaker-Novel-Writing-Software-Version-3/issues. These "Issues" help the developer to implement feature which are wanted from their users. "Issues" can be something that is not working, something you are missing, something you would like to change and so on. An open source project is just a good as its contributors. So please contribute :)
just got this on the web! is there any way i can fullscreen the pages i write on? I find that having backgrounds behind the papers distract me from writing.
I'm a bit confused. I'm just starting to use this. I'm writing a novel, but it is saying manuscript. Is there a different way I should have saved my settings to write a novel? I'm not writing a manuscript. Thanks.
It should only open one window when you click on the fire. Wavemaker won't have access to your stuff and it is kept on a cache on your computer that you can upload to your google drive.

I'm addicted to Scrivener, but really enjoy this, especially for outlining and drafting a synopsis. Thanks!
I am happy to hear you found it useful. Scrivener is a powerful writing tool and I know most authors I talk to use it.

Yeah, I know some folks would probably enjoy a darkmode or something along those lines. It hasn't been a deal breaker for me.
@@CarrowBrown I like dark mode, too. There should be options for personal image backgrounds, even Scrivener has that.
I may try this sometime for one of my project

Carrow, if price were not an issue, which program would you choose: Dabble or Wavemaker?
Organized to the max 😍😊
Organizing is my middle name!
Hello, does wavemaker have any access to your files or no...?
Also, I keep opening up more and more windows...?? (just started though)...
It should only open one window when you click on the fire. Wavemaker won't have access to your stuff and it is kept on a cache on your computer that you can upload to your google drive.
I love the setup of this but I hate cloud based writing apps. I wish I could just download it and use it offline.
Have you tried Anvil maker writing software
I haven't yet, but it looks similar to the features that Campfire has.
Does the program when writing provide spell check?
The new version of it has been.
0:56 Review starts. (Warning: music blocking speech never stops. 1:50+ high tones directly block speech. Not suitable for hearing aid users. )
Is it still updated?
Seems so. I was using it last week.
Interesting. But the fact that it's an online app and basically just a specialized version of Chrome is a deal-breaker for me.
I know it's so dumb, but I can't use Wavemaker because my brain gets hung up on the lack of smart quotes.
Do you think she could speak any faster???
I can.
talking like it works, the sync is dangerous.... really really bad, be careful people.
