The word processing program has been my springboard because I have a strong modern-day typewriting skill which is keyboarding skill that I used on card punch and data terminals and on the microcomputer today. I enjoy using my Dell OptiPlex with Microsoft Office 2021 Professional. I call my microcomputer my Keyboard because it is my powerful typewriter. Microsoft Word was really my mainspring; then Microsoft Access became my favorite program because I work on that database program more than a word processing program. Using the microcomputer makes working with business documents flexible and nifty, better than a conventional typewriter. I like printing my documents onto paper with my Canon color laser printer. The computer printer became the solution for replacing the word processing machines like the IBM Displaywriter, Wang, and Xerox. Your show is right up my niche.
I used to work on a BBC news desk where I was the only one who could touch type. It irritated my editor that I was faster than him. But it also meant I got more news to write because I'd be finished soonest. Yay for typing!
William, another excellent video. Thank you. My ears perked up when you talked about how you think as you write. Recently, I moved to Roam Research, described as 'an Excel for Words,' where you write in Markdown. Using bi-directional linking, it has not only helped me solve finding documents and keeping to the latest version, but also has grown into my personal thinking system. Have you come across it? (No commercial interest here in referring it.)
Bean is quite a good word processor on the Mac. It's free. It's meant to be a more stripped down word processor compared to something like Microsoft Word.
In 1990, I had my first exposure to Microsoft Word which was on the Macintosh microcomputer at a printing school. I took Advanced Desktop Publishing because I was the only student who typed. My favorite feature of Microsoft Word was its Character menu. It impressed me quite well, and I retained an interest in working with printer fonts. I use a Windows microcomputer because I created some business documents that were made in Windows computers and stored on diskettes. Is Bean flexible with all the features that are found in Microsoft Word?
Many Thanks William for the video !!! ... I bought a HP 2710e printer with a warranty with the intention of using it like a taxi !!! . I remember on the tv seeing the writer JK Rowling typing out part of Harry Potter in the back of a car one evening . William... even though it may have been year 2000 ..... the technology has pushed us backwards since those days. . I shall give the printer and leads to another person and ask them to show me how to print a document ????.........(i have to work backwards) . Many thanks for reading
Printers! I am secretly convinced that printer manufacturers don’t include the printing mechanism. It’s the only way to explain how they never work. Though thank you, you’ve just reminded me: I have to go print something out for the first time in years. Please wish me luck.
@@WilliamGallagher They won't work unless you hand over close to £1,000 !!! .. "We Know Who" swindled the world since the early 90's when his laptops were toys !!! ... I wish you luck on the printing my friend !!!! ... cheers
