I agree. Even though they slept in cushy hotel beds they will remember this for the rest of their lives. I bet they are already thinking about the next trip to make. I've been a lifelong cyclist. Never owned a car and i used my bike fro everything. Strangely though i only did my first long range tour when i was 45. 1000 miles in ten days from devon to deep into germany. Then the trip back. By the time i got back though i was done with biking for a bit. I did not even want to look at my bike. Since then i rode from devon to harrogate to see the worlds this year. Came back with all sorts of goodies that the pro's chucked my way at the feedstation

Touring Tips: On all day touring shelter from heavy downpours (coffee, food break shop). Leave early cover bulk of miles in morning so leaving yourselves a buffer of time for the afternoon ride. Slim profiles rucksacks for additional items might have been useful. But well done, resilience of youth. Listerine for throat, gargle twice daily. By the end of the week you would have found you'd toughened up and you can start to add more miles. Perhaps next time finish in a large town each night, shorts & t shirt + your rain jacket allows you to explore. Suggestion: Cheap flight to Tenerife (January) Rent racer (Bikeshed €38)... ride up Tiede volcano. 7 hrs up / 60 min down

Assembled the bike in the baggage claim area at Zurich airport, as the luggage trolleys wouldn't take a bike box due to their idiotic design.
